That’s pretty damning. But the conflating of this issue and Covid treatments is dishonest. Likewise making it a racial issue is almost surreal.
Talking about this event is critical. We dodged a bullet, a far more dangerous virus could have emerged, but even this mild bug almost stopped the world. Gain of function research should only be sanctioned when the need is critical and then only under the tightest security.
Science will destroy us eventually because we're dabbling with things that needn't be dabbled with, putting immense power into the hands of people that shouldn't even be trusted in the vicinity of a kitchen knife. The human race doesn't have a handbrake when it comes to self-destruction. We'll walk straight into the fire just because it's pretty.

The problem with scientists - not that Dr Death really is one - is that they are human beings and subject to how much money they can make from their scientific work. They will come up with anything that gives them extra benefits - but they are also quite destructive.
How anyone can think it wise to do gain of function research in countries like China and Ukraine must really be guilty of treason. They are helping China and the new dictatorship in Ukraine to get hold of pathogens that have potential dangerous consequences for the whole world. Dr Death and colleagues are involved in dangerous biological weapon provision to people that cannot be trusted.
