Hilarious. He's my go-to guy. I always agree with him.

Mar 11, 2023, 21:57

I find it odd that those on the political right who are the first to bang on about cancel culture and freedom of speech are oddly silent on the Linker controversy. Though in fairness to this discussion forum, they simply might not be aware of it.

Mar 11, 2023, 22:06

Well, our resident Trumpanzees only get indignant about freedom of speech if the person is saying things they like to hear.

Saw Lineker in the stands today at the Leicester vs Chelsea match and he looked pretty relaxed about it all. Good for him. As a long-term (and long-suffering) Tottenham supporter, he's one of my sporting heroes.

Mar 12, 2023, 02:04

He might comment on this as well:

Michael Caine recently told The Spectator (via IndieWire) that it’s “bullshit” his 1964 war epic “Zulu” was cited on a recent United Kingdom counter-terrorism report. The controversial Prevent strategy flagged a handful of popular films, British sitcoms, works of literature and more as possible sources of inspiration for terrorist groups and far-right extremists. “Zulu” was cited alongside “The Bridge on the River Kwai,” “Brave New World,” “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” and the BBC’s original “House of Cards,” among other titles.

“That is the biggest load of bullshit I have ever heard,” Caine said bluntly when told the news about “Zulu” being classified as a “key text” for “white nationalists and supremacists.”

What happened to Gary Lineker?...sounds like he said something the government didn't like, they complained and he responded....anything more serious?

Mar 12, 2023, 09:14

OK, I see he was basically fired by the BBC...total BS...British leadership has fallen quite some distance since Dame Maggie.

Mar 12, 2023, 12:26

So the comment is typical - we must all agree on open borders and international control over everything any country does.   It is typical BS propaganda BB and Rooinek think is real.

He talks about media lies - but failed to mention the Russian Hoax BS lies of the Democrats that was exposed.   Rooinek and his co-idiots fell for that one totally because they relied on Propaganda.

Now January 6 BS that was spread by the Democrats and their collaborators as well.   there definitely was no insurrection and what happened inside the Capitol indicated again BS spreading by the fake media on a major basis.   The judicial system is self-destructing because of the fact that the present regime is using fake information against people accused of things that never happened and they hid away the real evidence from the legal reps of the accused.    They have now kept over 500 prisoners without trial in jail and without any charges for 784 days on average - no comments from the site idiots because they believe in Fascism when it comes from the idiots in Government they support.

Mar 12, 2023, 15:28

So the comment sis typical - we must all agree on open borders and international control over everything any country does.

Can you point out where anyone in this thread said that?

No one is asking you to agree with what Gary Linker said. In this situation Gary Linker a sports presenter posted what where his own political views on his own personal platform in this case twitter. This wasn't like he aired them on a BBC broadcast.

From my understanding of it the BBC do have impartiality rules but they only apply to those covering news and political sections and not sport presenters. They also don't apply to people who are not directly employed by the BBC but work for them as freelancers, even if its in the area of news and politics.

In the past Gary Linker has again on his own personal platforms called for a second referendum on Brexit. At the time the BBC said he was perfectly entitled to air his own political views on his own platform.

They also had no issue with Gary Linker make political points about the Quater hosting the World Cup last year on  actual BBC coverage. So appears the BBC have no issue what so ever with political points by made about other countries.

So the issue here is that it seems the BBC has bowed to pressure from the Tory government and right wing media. According to the current leader of the Liberal Democrats, some 36 Tory MP's contacted the BBC to complain about Linker's post.

The BBC's impartiality has been called into question for sometime now. The current chairman Richard Sharp has donated over £400,000 to the Tory party and helped Boris Johnson obtain a £800,000 loan.

And Mike for crying out loud this has nothing to do with the Russian election interference or the Democrats, the capitol riot etc.

The Pie rant was full of half truths. For example the length of time to process an immigration application has increased….possibly because security has become a much bigger issue.Have you gone through Heathrow lately?

Spicing a bunch of unexceptional observations with liberal use of the F word doesn’t make them any more interesting.

Mar 12, 2023, 16:06

For example the length of time to process an immigration application has increased….possibly because security has become a much bigger issue.Have you gone through Heathrow lately?

Then should the Tory government not have hired more people to process the applications?

Mar 12, 2023, 16:34

Should the airports have hired more people? A lot of the security process just takes time, gathering records, waiting for responses….going through the chain of command. It’s the greatest price we pay for terrorism. And I guess much of the increase occurred under the Labor governments since 9/11.

Mar 12, 2023, 16:53

Under the Labour government 10,000 asylum applications where being processed a year. That's dropped to something like 2,000 per year under the Tories. Labour where in power for 9 years after 9/11 when security was stepped up.

Should the airports have hired more people?

Yes they should and they are trying to but are struggling to recruit due to demand for workers from other sectors. The UK is short 1 million workers as it is (Brexit a significant factor in this) Much of recent delays in going through airports is due to a lack of staff because of Covid. When the airports had vastly reduced passenger counts, they let go of a lot of staff and alot of them took the opportunity to upskill and find new work and chose not to return. Airport security staff also have to be vetted which is a time consuming process.  Covid illnesses caused disruption as well, further decreasing staff number. Covid also caused alot of pent up demand for holidays abroad which created a holiday rush. Heathrow also suffered a significant I.T glitch that caused further disruption last year.

Mar 12, 2023, 17:00

"The Pie rant was full of half truths."

Most of them are...

Mar 12, 2023, 17:53

The annual number of asylum applications to the UK peaked in 2002 at 84,132. After that the number fell sharply to reach a twenty-year low point of 17,916 in 2010. It rose steadily throughout the 2010s, then sharply in 2021 and again in 2022 to reach 74,751 applications, the highest annual number since 2002.

……

So throughout the Labor period the number of applications were falling. The Tories started at a low point and then saw some increases…with a sharp increase in 21/22 which no doubt has something to do with the backlog. But the numbers are still lower than 2002.

As for the average numbers processed, no doubt the average numbers applied plays a role.

Pie is being simplistic.

Mar 12, 2023, 18:46

And they aren’t the worst in terms of time to process an application, Ireland actually is.

Mar 12, 2023, 18:59

Jonathan Pie is a comedian (real name Tom Walker), not a political analyst, you humourless and ignorant fools.

LMAO!

Mar 12, 2023, 19:13

Nothing funny about that clip, unless you think using the f word is funny

Mar 12, 2023, 19:19

He is no comedian when it comes to shouting and screaming about a political issue without a smile on his face,.  Gutfield is really a comedian on Fox News - he makes comments and people at the show laugh about it.   Comedians cause laughter not hysteria.

Anyway Rooinek you can be assured that I laugh at your total idiocy when it comes to anything on site.   You also obviously try to be a comedian - but you ae way too stupid to be one.    Comedy about politics is when a specific statement by a politician is made and analyzed on a funny basis.  The only things you react to are based on political lies and nothing factual.    So you are not a comedian - but an idiot.

Mar 12, 2023, 19:41

Gutfield is much funny than this clod.

Mar 12, 2023, 19:57

"Gutfield is much funny than this clod."

When it comes to humour, each to his own but whether this Gutfield chap is "much funny than" (sic) Jonathan Pie is not really the point now, is it? The point is you were berating him for telling "half-truths" and for getting facts wrong when he's just a comedian posing as a news reporter and you were stupid and gullible enough to think he's a real one.

LMAO!

PS I wouldn't expect Jonathan Pie to appeal to a sour and humourless old fart whose idea of humour is a knock-knock joke. Personally, I think he's hilarious!

Mar 12, 2023, 19:59

‘For tellung half truths” (sic).

Now that’s funny!!!

Mar 12, 2023, 20:06

Just a typo, compared to your braino.

If a typo is so funny to you then you're just proving my point.

Mar 12, 2023, 23:19

What’s funny old stick is you making a fool of yourself while leaping on somebody else’s mistake. If you don’t get the distinction you’re proving my point.

Mar 13, 2023, 13:55

And Gary Linker is set to resume his role as presenter of MOTD on the BBC, after the BBC agreed to review its social media guidelines and Linker is to refrain from social media posts of a political nature while the review is being conducted. Can kicked down the road, but most will see this as an admission the BBC got it wrong.

Mar 13, 2023, 14:12

I referred to the January 6 incident to get some comments from you  especially about your story about the violent attack on the Capitol Police by insurrectionists.   If there were indeed  damage to property and the story about the 5 dead Policemen as a result of the attack.   What you wrote had ZERO proof and was typical Democratic Party propaganda  lies they have become famous for.   When they open their mouths the liar shit flowed from their mouths like lava.

Mar 13, 2023, 14:31

I referred to the January 6 incident to get some comments from you

Which has absolutely nothing to do with the topic of this thread.

Mar 13, 2023, 15:11

"Which has absolutely nothing to do with the topic of this thread."

You can almost picture ou Maaik's primitive drool-powered brain overheating as he asks himself: "Are there any topic waht are not about the evil demmerkrats?"

Mar 13, 2023, 15:15

Back to the actual topic, Gary Lineker has been reinstated and given an apology by the BBC.

I'm guessing the BBC decision makers watch Jonathan Pie!

Mar 13, 2023, 15:24

And Gary Linker is set to resume his role as presenter of MOTD’

…..

It’s Lineker, Stav old chap.

…..

You see RooiAaas this is where you lose all credibility. If Clever had said this you would be all over him for sheer stupidity. But because it’s fellow leftist in arms, Anger, you pretend he isn’t making a fool of himself throughout the thread.

Are you so afraid of offending a ‘friend’ that you can’t even issue a polite correction?  I never realized you are so insecure…it must be tough.

Mar 13, 2023, 15:31

Oh look, it's the gullible fool who thought Jonathan Pie was a real news reporter!

LMAO!

Mar 13, 2023, 18:14

I never thought he was anything but a mouth….I can see how you hero worship him. But nice  try at a diversion. Any defense of your laughably biased stance on grammar and factual mistakes….why were you so chicken to simply help out a friend?

Mar 13, 2023, 18:57

It’s Lineker, Stav old chap.

I stand corrected.

But nice  try at a diversion.

LOL says the guy who just threw in a comment about Irish asylum application processing times, when we where discussing asylum application processing times in the UK.

Are you so afraid of offending a ‘friend’ that you can’t even issue a polite correction?

He doesn't need too.

Look Moz he knows like we all know that your obsession with correct spelling and grammar is purely driven as a lazy way of trying to undermine the other person's argument rather than actually debating them. And you know we where actually doing a proper back and forth discussion in this thread, but you just couldn't resist could you.

Mar 13, 2023, 19:08

The first reference to a mistake on this thread was by your mate:

Mar 12, 2023, 19:57

"Gutfield is much funny than this clod."

When it comes to humour, each to his own but whether this Gutfield chap is "much funny than" (sic)

….mine was merely a response. Be even handed please.

But no offense intended, I’m developing a liking for your earnest, but polite style
