Russian vaccine looking good

The Lancet reports the much criticized Russian vaccine has produced immune responses  in all 76 patients at levels up to 150% of the strength of those  who have actually had Covid. There has also been a T cell response and no side effects have been observed. Phase 3 is under way.

Western epidemiologists  have been falling over themselves dumping on the Russian effort....wanting it to fail. But Russia has very underrated intellectual reserves and right now they have a promising horse in the race.

That’s good news.

Given it is only in third stage trials (outside of Russia), it has not necessarily done anything more than the US, UK and China versions. So far all show an antibody response from the body, with minimal known side effects.

Meanwhile, there are around 100 thousand people that will volunteer for challenge tests.
Given the treatment for Corona has improved, this would be a pretty safe way to speed things up.
Instead, they are plodding along with random blind placebo tests.

It is expected that some will be better as a treatment for those with the virus, while others could be a vaccine that is preventative - and to create herd immunity.

"1 volunteer in the UK has been diagnosed with transverse myelitis, an inflammatory syndrome affecting the spinal cord which is often sparked by viral infections. It's still unknown if the person's condition is directly linked to the vaccine - NYT"
