Trump Drops the Evangelical Right for Disloyalty

As several high-profile evangelical leaders quietly ditch Trump going into the 2024 presidential cycle, Trump slams the religious right for being “disloyal” and failing to fight hard enough in the midterms.

Ever since Donald Trump kicked off his third presidential bid in November, several high-profile evangelical leaders and activists have signaled that they want a new standard-bearer to lead the Republican Party into 2024. Unsurprisingly, these objections are not sitting well with the former president. “That’s a sign of disloyalty,” he told Real America’s Voice on Monday after host David Brody referenced Trump’s evangelical critics. “There’s great disloyalty in the world of politics, and that’s a sign of disloyalty.”

Trump then argued that he deserves the devotion of the religious right because “nobody has ever done more for ‘right to life’ than Donald Trump. I put three Supreme Court justices who all voted [to overturn Roe v. Wade]…. They won, they finally won.”

Last month, I spoke to a few of the evangelical leaders that Trump is now lashing out at, including Family Leader president Bob Vander Plaats, who said that “a silent majority” is forming among conservatives opposed to another Trump bid. One major evangelical leader, who asked to remain anonymous in our conversation, argued that the aversion toward Trump stems from the view that Republicans would “get crushed” in the general election should Trump win another Republican primary.

Early signs of Republicans’ electability problems came in the midterms, where Democrats over-performed expectations, keeping the Senate and ceding only a small majority to Republicans in the House. In a widely circulated Washington Times column, Everett Piper, the former president of an evangelical university, charged Trump with bleeding the possibility of red wave dry. “The lesson of this midterm is simple and clear: Mr. Trump’s endorsements hindered rather than helped the much-anticipated ‘red wave,’ and his petty selfishness could likely lead to another series of runoff losses in the days ahead,” wrote Piper in a midterm autopsy. “The take-home of this past week is simple: Donald Trump has to go. If he’s our nominee in 2024, we will get destroyed.”

Trump, however, is laying blame for the GOP’s most recent electoral failures on the feet of evangelical leaders. “I was a little disappointed because I thought they could have fought much harder during the election,” he told Real America’s Voice. “A lot of them didn’t fight or weren’t really around to fight, and it did energize the Democrats.”

Always stunned me why any evangelical Christians would support trump. He is about as God fearing as me but they still wanted to suck him off as some 2nd messiah.

Guess gullible fools will fall for any old load of horse shit

Where did you get the above from - source please.    The fact is that I think you made up something from the media and that is normally not a reliable source of info.

You misconstrued what happened in the Speaker election system.    There were some members of the House who want to ensure that corrupt activities of the Biden Regime is not swept under the carpet and who feared that McCarthy will let the corrupt lot by not acting against them strong enough.

The political cadre in the Democratic Party and even some Republicans are on their short list to be investigated.      The Biden lot is already saying that the new committees of the House may use conspiracy theories against the Democrats - but the only lot who actually use conspiracy theories in politics are the Democrats.  Example - the Russian Hoax lies the Democrats concocted - for which you fell lock stock and barrel,

As to religious bigotry the Black and Hispanic population are on average more religious than the Whites.   Biden sucker up to them before elections and afterwards ignored them is by far factual.    The issue of religion is not driving US politics - what is is the war on law and order by the Democrats - the open border policy - destruction of the US economy and  the attack by the Democrats on the USA constitution.

I am also not a Trump supporter - I think that the candidate for the Republicans should be De- Santis in 2024.    But the anti Trump war based on lies will not wok against DeSantis.   He has experience as Governor of Florida and he is going to be worse than Trump when it comes to corruption in Washington.     I guess the false allegations on him would be a Chinese Hoax this time around.   Everything the Democrats are doing themselves they accuse  the Republicans are doing.

The Evangelical Grifters dont like Trump stealing their donations. Instead of donating to the Church, they are getting out gifted by Trump.

I asked you, for the source leading to your above statement and you gave none.   Just more ravings about Trump being funded by ordinary voters and not donating as much to the church as  happened .in the past.

Don't you think the problem has more to do with the Biden-driven inflation causing people to use money to buy food where prices have soured by up to 23%.    Don't you think that people give money in the hope that the crazy Biden policies prescribed by his handlers - and that includes Gates, Soros and President Xi - are not driving them into ever-increasing poverty and they are looking to ways to get past it?

I will give you something to consider - I nearly said think about, but that is not possible in your case since the fake media prescribe to you what to think.   This is about mass fentanyl production in China.    They are exporting it en masse to the USA through the open Mexican border and it is killing hundreds of thousands of young according to you Democratic Party supporters thus far since Biden opened the Mexican border.    If you have any thinking ability left - why do you not advocate for the Biden open border craziness to end and for China to be forced to stop fentanyl production.   At least the Republicans are acting on it and in the House 146 of the House Democrats voted with the Republicans to install a House Committee to look at the China problem.

You do know that this is a FORUM right.

Go check the meaning in a dictionary

And as far as I know it's a free world where anyone can put forward their opinion or ideas on any subject, last time I looked there is nothing about peoples religious beliefs that are sacrosanct.

If your religion was true then you should have no problem (and certainly not getting butt hurt) refuting anything I say.

I can only presume you get so butt hurt because you are troubled by  the obvious glaring holes in your beliefs that are continually pointed out.

I am not attacking you as a person just the claims that your religion makes.

Jan 21, 2023, 16:31

Who's but hurt? I  enjoy most company on here, with one exception...why I come here...different voews don't bother me, I have lots of atheist  and qgnostic friends...even the odd moslem...and regardless of our differences,  I consider you my friend definitely doesn't have a glass jaw...I respect that...and I'm quite sure that I didn't really offend you...wasn't my intention if I did...

Jan 21, 2023, 17:45

No offense taken, everyone is entitled to their own views. Be a bloody strange world if everyone agreed on everything.

Icome here because I like to get different views on things, only way we can learn things.

I know I can be a shit stirrer at times it's just the way I am I suppose.

DbD you are an Officer and a Gentleman with no hidden agenda.

Great to be able to share this forum with a man such as you and a few others.

Dankie...same here. Glad to know you and the others...we're like a family.  I know it sounds cringeworthy, but we all go back quite a few years already...cyber friends are just as relevant as real life face to face friends...not to be taken for granted, but we are mocked to be embarrassed by common decency. How we have fallen.
