Australian legend and former captain, Greg Chappell praised Jasprit Bumrah and had a lot of appreciation for India's leading speedster, calling him the player standing between Australia and the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
Bumrah had recently also led the Indian side to victory in the series opener at Perth during the absence of Rohit Sharma, with his 8/72 in the match in crunch situations.
See what the former India coach, Chappell had to say about the 31-year-old fast bowler.
Greg, in his column for The Sydney Morning Herald called Bumrah as one of the compelling figures in modern cricket while naming him as one of the best bowlers in the current era alongside Kagiso Rabada.
"Among the modern era’s firebrands, Jasprit Bumrah has emerged as a compelling figure, inviting comparisons not only to these stalwarts but also to current South African champion Kagiso Rabada," he wrote.
Chappell went on to compare Bumrah's skillset to that of the legends of yesteryears in Dennis Lille and Andy Roberts.
"I have always said that Dennis Lillee and Andy Roberts were the most complete fast bowlers that I faced. How does Bumrah, with his unorthodox action and masterful control, measure against these two and the other titans of modern fast bowling?" he asked with astonishment.
"Bumrah, though less overtly combative, channels [Dennis] Lillee’s ability to unsettle batsmen. His deadly yorkers and disconcerting bounce – especially with his unorthodox release point and trajectory – echo Lillee’s capacity to dictate terms. Bumrah’s quiet intensity and precision make him a nightmare, much like Lillee’s unrelenting aggression."
About how Bumrah is similar to West Indies' 6 foot 2 pacer, Andy Roberts in terms of his approach and the run-up,
"Bumrah shares Roberts’ cerebral approach. Both bowlers use subtle variations to outfox batsmen, relying on strategy rather than brute force. Bumrah’s spell in the 2018 Boxing Day Test against Australia – culminating in 6-33 – was a modern echo of Roberts’ game-changing bursts."

Chappell's praise for Bumrah did not stop as he wrote about how Bumrah is creating his own legacy while inspiring a generation of speedsters,
"While the legends of yesteryear established the foundations, Bumrah is carving his own legacy – one that promises to inspire future generations of pacemen," Chappell stated
"Fast bowling, cricket’s most compelling spectacle, thrives through these icons. Bumrah, with his unorthodox brilliance, stands tall among them, embodying the heavy artillery that Ian Chappell so eloquently described."
"Make no mistake, Bumrah stands between Australia and the Border/Gavaskar Trophy," he concluded.
Furthermore, his spells from England in 2021 and South Africa in 2022 where he put up an exhibition of reverse swing bowling and late dipping yorkers began the Indian's comparisons with Pakistan legends, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis as well.
