Nice innings by Rickleton

….still not sure the catch that dismissed him in the seventies was actually made. But he and de Zorsi put the Poteas back in the test. Unfortunately Verrynne, Stubbs and Brevis went cheaply after Rickleton left. And Muthusamy got some sharp turn….it was quite impressive.

The challenge the Proteas face is all these young guys are coming off occasionally but then going off the boil….they are a bit of a lucky packet at this point….and a few months ago Brevis was looking imperious.

Stubbs has not delivered in many test and Verrynne has failed most times at bat.

Perhaps Rickleton (who is also a good keeper) could fill in as w/keeper and select a player who is an allrounder to backfill for Verrynne?

Oct 14, 2025, 17:51

Yes AJ makes sense.

Oct 16, 2025, 04:02

And again Rickleton does well in a losing cause. The shots Markram and Stubbs produced were simply unacceptable at that stage of the match. The pitch was taking huge spin, but as Brevis and Rickleton showed, reachable with a bit of resolve.

Stubbs has not delivered in many test across all formats and Verrynne has failed most times at bat.

Agreed Stubbs should be dropped and my replacement would be one of the Hermann brothers. Verryenne is a test player, there is a case to be made in that there's a big gap in-between when he last played. Then there's also the problem of a small talent pool not to mention the quota policy, be careful who you wish for.

However, the big hitting Donavan Ferreira is a wicket keeper, more of a white ball player but perhaps he could slot into the test side?

On another note, I don't get why the big hitting Brevis bats at the back end.

Oct 21, 2025, 18:43

Brevis is proving to be a non contributor thus far in the test series.

Disappointing.

Oct 22, 2025, 13:43

"On another note, I don't get why the big hitting Brevis bats at the back end."

Typically ignorant post from D6!

Brevis is not a new ball batsman (at this point of his career).

As a cricket wizard, I'd expect you to understand this!

Match on tomorrow, a few quick wickets could be decisive

Nov 14, 2025, 15:05

Well thank goodness for selecting Kaptein once more.

Yet another inspiring outing and score from Kaptein. What a leader and dependable performing batsman he is.

No wonder all groups overlooked the guy for the Indian series.

Retire in go into politics, the sooner the better.

Who has a better record than him in that period?

Maybe think before you jump on the bandwagon.

Nov 16, 2025, 01:13

AJH

please challenge me here.

who has a better batting record over that period?

Nov 16, 2025, 11:02

…. This hallway is awfully quiet.

Nov 16, 2025, 12:02

Wehe . . . what a time to slag off Temba!

LMAO!

Harmer was a deserved MotM but Temba must have been in that conversation. His gritty half century was the highest individual score of the match and gave a us a total we could defend.

fArt has egg all over his stupid face again . . . just as Moffie got egg all over his face slagging off QdK just before he scored an ODI century.

Love seeing the loudmouthed fools wiping all that egg off their faces.

Nov 17, 2025, 14:33

AJ??

Where art though?

I just wanted to get your thoughts.

Nov 17, 2025, 15:48

Chip....it's Where art though thou?

Hope you don't mind me looking after your interest.

Dec 06, 2025, 21:11

Here Chippo.

Sorry I missed your posting (and echo Rooi-arse) but Kappy might be your hero with a bat, but most South Africans are falling over themselves (as are many cricket lovers world wide) with laughter as he is unable to even secure an offer to play in the RSA 20/20 local series.

WONDER WHY..........

Perhaps he is over skilled with the bat and it would be insulted for him to lower his standard to play with other SA national cricket players in a the local series. WRONG, WRONG and yes WRONG.

The teams are not interested in wasting their money on his selection plain and simple.

If I recall correctly he missed selection from the inception of this 20/20 contest and was only forced into the EP team with the assistance of Smith going to bat for him.

EMBARASSING ......Yes for sure.

AMEN.

Dec 07, 2025, 22:51

AJ

your original comment was on his test form. So my response was to that.

I wasn’t talking about his T20 or ODI performances.

Dec 08, 2025, 23:14

I've always maintained that Temba is a red ball player not a white ball player. His record as the red ball captain is excellent but he hasn't done himself any favours by pushing his white ball agenda. The world of cricket doesn't share in the ANC quota policy favouring POC, instead its policy is merit friendly.

Long may it be so!

Dec 09, 2025, 18:48

Agree with you two gentlemen.

What a disaster todays game turned out to be for the Saffers.

Shocking.

Dec 09, 2025, 22:39

Shocking, I don’t understand how they can go from hero to zero from one game to another

Dec 09, 2025, 23:05

I think we have to accept that a full strength Indian XI (even without Jaiswal) is just too strong not just for the Proteas but for any other team out there.

Hopefully the Proteas can even it up and make the series competitive but I don't see how anyone can compete with India.

Dec 09, 2025, 23:20

Rooi, I hear you but I’m not ready to throw in the towel.

Dec 09, 2025, 23:30

The funny thing is that no batsman dominated , if we say that they didn’t score 50

in this match I put the blame down to our bowlers.

Nortje our main striker failed to take a wicket.

Dec 09, 2025, 23:50

India’s too good….vaguely familiar Rhonda. Didn’t you once claim India’s second team was too good for any other side, just before they crashed out the WC.

As for blaming the bowlers and not the batsmen….that’s actually funny. The wicket was hardly unplayable as Hardik showed. It was a woeful batting display.

Dec 10, 2025, 14:24

Poor show both with the ball and bat from the Proteas in general.

Quintons batting performance is absolutely shocking.

Dec 10, 2025, 14:56

Quinny's batting performance is only highlighted when he fails, there's never a mention when he's successful as with the century he scored in the second test. Would you care to nominate a player who can fulfill his role?

Same with Bavuma whose batting performance in Test cricket is pretty damn good. Then of course there was those gritty performances in two ODI's....led from the front he did. Lets be honest and give credit where it's due.

And OBTW it's good to sometimes remember that cricket is an 11 man game and that players are human and not robots.

That will be all for now...thank you kindly, you may order fries with that.
