Saf, i remember you thinking that Andile Phehlukwayo is the next best all rounder in SA cricket.

4 years down the line, I'd love to hear your opinion on him now?

Come on son.

This is a legitimate question.

Rate him - far better than all the other so called all rounders we have tried

Not his fault our utterly useless coaches have failed to pick him

Look he is no world beater but the best of our bunch

Far better than Morris and Pretorious that we always had to endure in our side

Phelu early in his career showed remarkable talent, caught my eye as a big hitter but then he proved to be inconsistent and never hit his early promise. He had his chance to cement his place in the side.

Valid point Denny but some of the recent selections are a joke at best as are some of the older bowlers.

I suspect as I've previously said.....we don't have the cattle although there probably is some serious coaching and promotional issues. Help me Jesus in 35 years the system has produced one half decent batsman in Bavuma. Houston methinks has a major problem.

Edit: Can someone tell me why Brevis can't make the national side?

Oct 10, 2024, 21:36

Well for starters he has not set the cricket world alight with his batting;

I stand to be corrected but the games that I have seen of him batting on TV he has been average if that.

In the IPL series he did not impress me as well and if I recall correctly he did not play in all the games for his team.

We all know that the number one requirement to represent RSA is not ability but a matter of pleasing the politicians who are set on revenge irrespective of the outcome.

Just like the Nationalist Party did in their innings at the wicket.

Select on merit and skill will eventually be achieved once the Old Comrades pass on.

Perhaps not in my lifetime UNFORTUNATELY.

I thought Brevis scored the most runs in the 4 day domestic competition last season?

Proteas’ Temba Bavuma ruled out of first Test against Bangladesh, Dewald Brevis called up

Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma on Friday was ruled out of the first Test against Bangladesh after scans revealed a left tricep muscle strain.

Bavuma will travel with the squad to Dhaka on Tuesday and continue his recovery under the supervision of the Proteas medical team in preparation for the second Test.

Aiden Markram will captain the side in the first Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, starting on October 21.

Titans batsman Dewald Brevis has been added to the squad as cover. The 21-year-old earns his maiden Test call-up after representing South Africa A against Sri Lanka A last month, where he scored 49 and 74 in the second four-day match.

Along with Brevis,  Matthew Breetzke could also be in line to earn a first Test cap. Proteas Test coach Shukri Conrad has also previously stated that Breetzke would be next in line.

Fck...when Bok Rugby was at it's worst, I still watched...struggling to even think about cricket ATM...not even Apartheid fcked up our cricket the way CSA and their ANC gatgabbas have done in only a few years...SIES!!!

Oct 14, 2024, 10:10

Ja, I'll sing along with that but tell me why is Markram a failure, there were those who thought he'd be the next big thing, then also next generation players like Donavan Ferriera, Janneman Malan, Verryenne and a few others haven't set the team on fire. They were given opportunity.

Addendum: I guess this is what we all wish for....

Teen freak furthers case for shock Test call-up

S?am Konstas has continued his meteoric rise, earning selection in the Australia A squad to take on India A before this summer's Test series.

The teenage sensation scored back-to-back centuries last week for NSW? in their first Sheffield Shield game of the season, pushing himself into national team discussions.

Michael Clarke publicly endorsed the 19-year-old after his performance against South Australia and given the race for the opening batting spot alongside Usman Khawaja, it's not out of the realm of possibility for Konstas to earn a shock debut.

Konstas has been picked in the squad alongside other top-order hopefuls Cameron Bancroft and Marcus Harris, who are also in the mix for a baggy green.

"We are really excited by this squad, particularly after some of the tremendous performances to start the Sheffield Shield season," George Bailey said in a statement.

"As always with Australia A selection we have picked a side we hope can present performances which are compelling for the upcoming Test summer, whilst also rewarding players for strong domestic form in roles we see as being important.

"Australia A squads are pleasingly challenging to select which highlights the depth and talent coming through to accompany those more senior players on the edge of international recall.

"It will be a great opportunity for these players to shine against a strong Test nation looking to prepare for what is going to be a captivating summer of Test cricket."
