Our ODI team seems reasonably well sorted on the batting front. Unfortunately de Kock will likely bottle it as an opener, as he has done in prior WCs. Like Markram, he would be far more natural at 5 or 6. That aside though we have depth with today’s line up. And the ability to accelerate with Markram, Klaasen, Miller and Jansen. Even Phehlukwayo looks potent way down the order.

The bowling on the other hand is less convincing. Jansen is a given, but who are the other quicks. I’m guessing Pheh and Maharaj are in favor, given this is a decider. But the Aussies imploded today, the bowlers benefitted. So it’s still hard to say where this attack is.

Nonetheless this is good team as recent Proteas teams go….hopefully the surprise this time will be positive.

Well Miller in an interview on BBC is quoted as being more than positive that they can pull off a surprise in this WC tournament in India.

Three SA batsemen are rated in the top 15 for this WC so trust that they will be productive in this WC.

Not so sure about the bowling line up without Nortje though.

"Unfortunately de Kock will likely bottle it as an opener"

LMAO!

Yes . . . if a 84 ball century can be called bottling it . . .

crazy match.

I like our kit...will sell well if we do good...

Great knocks by De Kock, vd Dussen and Markham with Markham scoring the fastest ton in CWC history.

Sure was great to watch these guys batting unfortunately I missed  SL's batting innings with Coetzee picking up 3 wickets and Jansen bowling two batters. excellent.

Great stuff trust that it holds good for the games against the top sides like India, Australia, NZ and England.

Quinton is really bottling it with two consecutive centuries!

LMAO!

Oct 12, 2023, 19:06

...wait for it...

Oct 12, 2023, 19:24

Yet again not able to watch the game but a great result for the Proteas and Quinton as well.

Miller must know something about the side that we never caught onto.

Besides losing a few Bucks on the Aussie side in this game it is worth it to see the win for the Proteas.

Onward and upward with fingers crossed and trust the team will go from strength to strength in the remaining games.

Well done guys.

Probably the best innings I have seen de Kock play. He was contained and punished the poor balls. Clearly he is comfortable on these Indian wickets and he was the big factor in our win today. Happy to admit  I was wrong so far.

Walter is hardly mentioned in the Proteas context, except for some negativity earlier. But the team seems more settled mentally and best I can judge he has got the selection puzzle right.

It’s early days, but a very promising start.

Quinton is really bottling it with two consecutive centuries!

LMAO!

Oh you naughty man but ja-nee I couldn't resist .....

LMAO!

I'm curious.....I wonder if Quinton is playing this care free and confidently, purely because irrespective of how he performs at this world cup...., he is retired from ODI's anyway after this world cup ... so no pressure on him at all.

Either way ....two bloody fantastic century knocks by Quinton ... and hopefully many more to come in this world cup

Oct 13, 2023, 06:33

Well, to me Quinton is a lesser version of  the now retired Brian Lara......both being flamboyant, both refused to be bottled at the crease, both trade in fours rather than in one's or two's. It's a style of play that has its plusses as well as it's risks. It also  makes for exciting and mesmerizing cricket.

Here's the thing, this being the WC and Quinnie's last stop saloon in his wisdom and newly found maturity he's changed address, flamboyance has been replaced with a measured and calculated style of play....and thus far it's working and it might not always work being cricket and all that but for the moment it's not too shabby. Might also just say that regardless of what the wicket does or does not to do his new approach remains the same and as a betting man I reckon he'll reap far better rewards for having made the change.

"Unfortunately de Kock will likely bottle it as an opener"

…..as predicted.

de Kock had a brilliant WC

Nov 16, 2023, 19:27

Except when real winners come through. I was hoping he had matured and learned how to keep control of his emotions. That slog he played today when under pressure took us right back to all his failures in WC knockouts. Even a 30 could have put the innings off on a more stable basis and given us a chance to be in the finals.

Nov 16, 2023, 20:51

Same can be said of the other 3 in the top order

Nov 17, 2023, 12:43

Not really….Bavuma was playing a defensive shot, Dussen tried to push for a single through covers. De Kock tried a shot which doesn’t have a cricket name, except perhaps slog,  off a ball that never gave him the space to play it. A total bottle out.
