The next series played in Pakistan start on 10 October and run through to early November 2025 ftom where the team goes to India in a series that ends a month later.

In fact the agenda of continuous cricket by the team goes through to March 2026 when the WC T20 series start.

In the meantime St Bavuma is out of the Pakistan tour due to injury and there is a huge argument on the go whether to retain Rickelton as an opener in White Ball cricket and a suggestion that Pretorius should be given opportunities to start as opener, I would suggest that move anyway with Brevis acting as wicketkeeper,

Not sure whether it's a good idea to drop Rickelton but it sounds like there's a planned shift in the pipeline with Quinton back in the mix. That's sure to upset someone Hahahaha

As I've said in an earlier post it might be a good idea to open with Brevis and Breetzke.

Interesting times.

Sep 22, 2025, 18:02

I’d prefer keeping Brevis at 4 or 5.

he’ll be better against a ball that isn’t swinging as much.

if de Kock is back, it’s an obvious switch for Rickleton… though Quin hasn’t been in the best form either.

I wonder why he made the U-turn.

i also can’t work out why Pretorius isn’t in the test squad??

Chippo

I buggered up the above posting totally and did not check what I wrote. I do not know what the posiirion is of De Kock and did not know anything about him changing his position on his decision not to play for SA again. The last I saw of him was when he was playing in a T20 series in the West Indies where he did quite well. So please enlighten us on that one

I myself has a problem with playing Brevis as wicket keeper - he is quite a good as a back up bowler and in shorter versions of cricket that is also a good situation to be in. What is confromed is that Bavuma is injured and would not go Pakistan.

In any event if De Kock is available I think with his experience on Pakistani and Indian pitches he may be a much better choice as Rickerton on the white ball matches, I think as far as I can remember he opened the batting in only 2 red ball tests ever and in one case he made a century as opening batsman. His selection as test opening batsman would be extemely rare.

So lets see what happens and I am looking forward to your information on the De Kock issue. .

I would suggest that the current openers are not match winners.

Yes the current openers might have one or two good games and be shocking for the next series of games but they are not consistent in setting a base for the rest of the team to build on as well as giving the bowlers a fair window to work with.

Quinton has his failings but on average he is head and shoulders above what we have has as openers of recent.

I for one am very pleased to see him back at the crease.

Sep 22, 2025, 20:41

Agree AJ

and Mike, why would anyone want Brevis to keep wicket?

he’s prob our best fielder… or one of!

Sep 22, 2025, 23:50

AJ, generally if a team wins the power play it sets up a platform to win the game so it makes for a nice opportunity for a big hitter like Brevis when there's only two fielders permitted to patrol the boundary.

Markram is not a big hitter, he believes he is but if one cares to make a study of his dismissals it's mostly when he goes aerial.

Quinton hasn't delivered in word cups although at the last one he wasn't all that bad, think with a bit of luck who knows he could turn it around. Thing is every team needs to take advantage of the powerplay and for that it needs big hitters.

It's a simple game plan, penetrate the inner circle by going over the top, avoid the two fielders patrolling the boundary.

Game on!

ps is your friend's daughter still playing for the Proteas?

Sep 23, 2025, 14:30

No, but she will be pretty soon.

Sep 23, 2025, 14:32

AJ, who is your friends daughter?

Would love to watch out for her. I follow the ladies game quite closely.

Sep 23, 2025, 15:21

Just the following onsevations:-

  1. Why the hell is Brevis only going to play in the tests only and not the White-ball series,
  2. Why does wwant Bavuma to play White Ball cricket?

Sep 23, 2025, 17:24

And why the hell is Pretorius not in the test squad

Sep 24, 2025, 10:52

Mickey, Brevis has been selected to play in all formats.

  1. Why the hell is Brevis only going to play in the tests only and not the White-ball series,
  2. Bavuma has been ruled out with a long term injury.

When I saw he original squads Brvis was not in the White Ball squads and there were even comments why he was not in teh Whote Ball squads, Someone - and especially the sponsors - must have kicked up hell about it and now he is in all three squads, My comments were made when I first saw the article about why for some mysterious reason Brevis was only in the test squad, I thought the comments were shit - that was why I wrote about it.

Delighted to see he is now in all three squads and the motivation provided vanished as well.

With the URC starting on Friday togetther with the RC still ongoing and the November rugby tests near, all the above cricket and also tennis tournments now two to three a week - I have a viewer problem and will have to spend 90% of the daytime time waching television to keep up to date with all the sport tournaments, A hell of a problem for an old man like me. LOL

Sep 24, 2025, 16:49

@aj

oh nice.

shes one of the all time greats. Love how her leg spin evolved. Excuse the pun.

i was so angry when she got dropped for being a little bit fat and slow.

Sep 24, 2025, 18:36

It only gets better Mike with the WWC starting early October LOL

Edit: Whatcha think of the selections, I would have liked Breetzke in all formats, he has to be better than Henducks and some of the other plonkers?

Sep 24, 2025, 20:45

Denny

From what I have seen from Breetske is being a fighter For that reason I wild perefer him in all fomats of criclet. I wouid I would pic k him ahead of Hanza in all formats of rhe game. Hope they keep using Mulder as batting no 3 ibn the order, To my mind Pretorius is a better batsman than Stubbs.

Exzekerly......I really don't know what Hanza's claim to selection is based on and I wish his supporters would jump on and tell us.

As for the much hyped Stubbs, he's kinda stubbed himself, his paddle sweep has dumb written all over it.

Going forward we have Brevis, Breedke and Rickelton if he can iron out his flaws and with patience we might have Pretorius. Ferriera is an exciting prospect and one or both of the Herman bothers might fulfill the Protea challenge.

The problem is getting these guys selected and I can't see that happening looking at the above teams which is loaded with quotas and plonkers.

Sep 26, 2025, 01:12

Honestly we have to select the best not the rest irrespective of their color if we wish to be one of the best teams in all formats of cricket.

But it is impossible to predict what the SA Government's plan is regarding their mandated sport policy.

If they really want to why not select a full squad of black of players to represent RSA in all international sport and lets see what results from their plans.

The top players can earn a ton more money overseas plying their skills as opposed to earning Rands in SA and hoping to be selected.

Remember when these players retire they might have a Proteas Cap and a bank balance in worthless Rands as opposed to earing a heap more cash overseas in real money terms.

I know which path I would take and that's not unpatriotic but security for my families future.

Ever wonder just how much Faf is worth and still raking it in.

Good for him.

Disagree, it's not impossible to predict their mandate, just have a look at the above squads and you'll realise their mandate with its quotas and plonkers

Also, they now have selectors, don't know who they are, at a gay I'd say they're a bunch of comrades who know sweet f/all about cricket.

Cry me a river, how da foook do you select serial failures and expect a different result!!!?????

Sep 28, 2025, 00:59

Here we go again…

the serial whiner is at it.

Christ Denny you never stop complaining.

Did you play scrumhalf in D6?

Show the man a gap and he’s off complaining again….!!

it took all told the tomatoes by the ginger peas multiplied by 10

Oct 05, 2025, 21:15

Denny,

I was referring to the numbers /color mandate that the Comrades have enforced on sport teams.

Strange that the world was quick to place sport sanctions (with which I agreed ) on the RSA

but with the present ANC sport policy it has gone unnoticed or ignored worldwide.

Perhaps a sport ban such as RSA endured prior to 1995 should be applied by the World sporting bodies to get the ANC to get out of SPORT, as well as to any country that fosters or is controlled by fanatics.

Your comments?

No worries, my post re Ginger Peas and Walrus Nuts was directed at our resident ANC Spy who unsurprisingly will make sense out of it.......no-one else can.

You pose some interesting thoughts, I can't say anymore about the subject than what I already have while I acknowledge that its blatant racism pisses me off bigtime. We all know that the ANC are masters at turning something good into shyte.

But here, a few suggestions, the world has far more pressing issues than to even look at the lost cause under ANC rule.

Hows about our resident ANC Spy approach his ANC connections and lobby them to drop their horrendous quota policy?

And/Or he approaches his relo's like Ju Ju Malema and members of that loony party the EFF with the same request?

And/ Or lastly as a 'Fyf laas trek' approach the family Sangoma to cast a magic spell and wow just like dat quotas Voetsek?

If you think I'm a bit harsh, think about it this way, our resident ANC Spy never contributes, a typical product of a fucker up party who spends his time on here picking up stompies...... this will give him something to do and hoping against hope he'll gain notoriety.
