South African footballer and Olympian Luke Fleurs has been killed in a hijacking in Johannesburg, his Kaizer Chiefs club said overnight.

The 24-year-old defender was shot while waiting to be attended to at a petrol station in the Honeydew suburb in Johannesburg, according to police.

“Luke Fleurs tragically lost his life last night during a hijacking incident in Johannesburg. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time,” Kaizer Chiefs said in a statement.

According to police spokesperson Mavela Masondo, the attackers fled with Fleur’s vehicle and police were investigating a case of murder and car hijacking.

Fleurs previously played for the national under-23 side, representing South Africa at the Tokyo Olympics.

Fleurs is the latest among thousands of people who are victims to fatal hijackings in South Africa, which has one of the highest murder rates in the world.

The latest official crime statistics from October-December last year showed 5,973 hijacking cases reported.

Insane murder rate, highest rape rates in the world, corruption that is beyond blatant, police that are basically gangsters who wanna drag you out of your car and rob you, hospitals where incapacitated people die of starvation...

How is one meant to respect these people?

Typical life in Africa unfortunately.

Lawless, poor, dirty and everything is either broken or well on its way to not being operational.

My brother in-law was recently admitted to Johannesburg General Hospital and according to his wife none of the elevators are in working order plus nursing and medical care is practically none existent.

Needless to say my brother in-law passed away in the hospital.

Yes, so much for the New South Africa.

You folks still living in RSA  only have yourself to blame.

Sadly.

AJH

That was why I moved to the Western Cape.   Except in parts of Cape Town where gangsters operate - the Western Province are governed by the Democratc Alliance  and everything seems to be funcioning.  Provincial hospitals especialy are vastly different from the other provinces,,

The cities and streets are maintaied and regularly upgraded when needed.   In Riversale herre are two shops owned by a Nigerian and he claimed the envorment here is better than anywhere else in the world,    He said he loves the place and his children are n school here and becoming fluent in Afrikaans.   There are also three Chinese shops in town and they are in the same opinion.   Aside from that the place is peaceful and crime not an issue.

I will give you an example - there are no housing for sale in Riversdale.   Let me give you an example - the Estate Agents have waiting list for thousands of house buyers from elsewhere in SA and when a houe comes on the market they just phoned people on the waiting lists  and are sold unseen and based on home and garden photos.    I will give you an example - my late brother bought a unit 3 years ago for R800 000 and did some minor thisg like repainting the unit and adding a braai room.   His widow - who suffers from cancer and cannot live in th house anymore is moving to the old age home in Roversdal and put the uni for sale at a price of over R2 million.   I bought my house in Riversale for R910 000 and if I put it on the market I wil get over R3 million for it.      House prices in the Western Cape are increasing by 15,5% on a year to year basis.    In places like Riversdale it is probably near to  60%.

If you travel through town the homes  built in the epriod 1870 and 1910 are the prime marlet targets and will cost over R5 million now,   In Still Bay and Jongensfontein  you will be lucky t get a home near the beachfront fror less than R25 million -   John Smit owns a house in Jongensfonein in that price range.

The rest of the country has gone to shit and  one can only hope  for the new coalition Government to clear up the mess created under the ANC over the last 20 years especially.   At.least we did not have loaadshedding since the DA appointed Minister took over the Energy Department.     They also took over the Agriculture Department and the farmers will now go back to full production again/

Well = I do think chage came thrpough and we had no loadshedding ainc he coaliiton government took over.   The fact is we had more epace and quiet than before - but I think te situation wil improve and we some upgrading of the N2 at lest in the Western Cape area.

There re also seems to be an improvement in education as well,   The Minister of Education is also a DA member.

The EFF is disinerrating with Floyd leaving it and joining Zuma's Party - but that Party is also feuding from ihin and twelve of their MP's has been expelled from the Party because hey ddid not follow Zuma's instructions.   However, there is no more a Venda Back to be looted by the EFF and the Zumma lot.   Zuma should try and get money from the Democratic Party in the USA - they have one thing in common -  both are involved in bribery and corruption on an unlimted level  - so birds of a feather will always flock together.
