Both Djokovic and Nadal was nominated to play in Miami - in fact Djokovic was even given the no two seed position in Indian Wells. However, he suffered a shock defeat in Dubai at the hands of a qualifier and blamed the defeat on the fact he is not match-fit.
Be it as it may he waited until two days before the first Round 1 matches in Indian Wells before announcing that he would not play in that tournament - neither would he play in the Miami tournament.
Nadal had two excellent tournaments - the Aussie Open and Acapulco tournaments which he both won and then he was extremely lucky to beat Korda in Round 2 in Indian Wells, Apparently it became clear to him that he is likely to become unstuck in the Indian Wells tournament and he announced his withdrawal from the Miami tournament after that game.
