SEMIFINALS
4 Casper Ruud vs 8 Hubert Hurkacz
Pablo Carrero-Busta vs
Daniel EvansThis is weird. None of the seeds in the Bottom Half of the Draw survived - while in the Top Half of the Draw 3 seeds are going through to the Semifinals. Two of those are playing each other and the third one is unlikely to survive going through to the semi-final stage. Very likely there will be no seeded players in the final. .
Nick Kyrgios is the next world number 1 in men's tennis.
He's decided to apply himself and it shows.
Pity he didn't take points away from Wimbledon.
A little surprised to see Sinner lose.

So Kyrgios - whom I favor to beat Hurkacz - failed badly in the third set and went out losing 6-1 in that set. Wonder why that happened - mainly a case where he has overplayed himself winning last weeks tournament in Washington was one step too far for him this far around.
.
FINAL
8 Hubert Hurkacz vs Pablo Carrero-Busta
Carrero-Busta won - congr
ats to him.
Hi Mike ... My understanding is that he had some issue with his lower back.
He looked fine to me.
They're talking exhaustion.
I dunno.
Aliassime also fell completely apart. Worst game I've seen him play.
Hurkacz has a good shot at winning this.
Ruud is on fire.
It's going to be interesting.
Gooooooooo Hubi!

There are very few players who won successive tournaments on the tennis circuit. In thee case of 2022 it was only Nadal and Rublev who did so - hence my above comment on the issue of Kyrgios.
The fact is that I have doubts about Kyrgios going very far in the Cincinnati tournament starting tomorrow as well. He has to play the following players:-
Round 1 - Alejandro Davidovich Fokina
Round 2 - Taylor Fritz or Sebastian Baez
Round 3 - Andrey Rublev or Albert Ramos Viinolas or a qualifier in Round 2
Not a very easy route in a very difficult tournament. Both Fritz and Rublev beat him in tournaments in the past. The latter in 2019 when Kyrgios was a top ten player.
. .
That is true, Mike. His road to the final is tough.
Bear in mind that Kyrgios has never been as committed to his craft as he is now.
He usually plays a tournament or 2 and then goes home to chill for a month or more ... only to get back on the road and do it all over again.
He isn't used to playing back to back tournaments and so staying power is an issue for him. That is the reason he ended up losing in the quarters last week.
He seems determined to up his fitness levels by playing more tennis than he usually does.
He's 27 years old ... has a bit of time to make his mark ... and has taken note of the elderly Novak, Rafa and Roger's inevitable decline.
He has a very different attitude this time round and I expect to see him winning slams in the not too distant future.
He has oodles of talent and should have been a multi slam winner already.
The last I checked, he's moved up to # 27 in the world and would have been higher if Wimbledon had awarded ATP pts.
Wait and see. I think he's going to rule the world of tennis within the next few months.
I do like Kyrgios as a player and he is a standard bet with me. In 2019 he was in the top ten players and is today listed as number 28 in the world. That will ae his life easier in tournaments as he would be a seeded player in for instance the US Open this year.
Unfortunately Wimbledon was this year a Exhibition Tournament based on the rules applicable to both the WTA and APT and so no points would have been awarded .to anybody.
I see Nadal is playing in Cincinnati this week as well - one wonders how he will do after being ou of tennis for near to three months.
.
Well Mike ... word has it that Nadal's been seen jet skiing and water skiing ... having a ball ... and suddenly looks to have no injury.
Nadal has not played any tennis for months now - his first return game will be tomorrow and his second game
Thursday and that could be messy.
