……with a fused back, bad hips and a bleeding knee. At age 35 this compromised warrior won in the 5th set tie breaker. Another case of the greatest generation of tennis players refuses to die.

He was playing an out of form Berrettini - a 26 year old that has not won anything for two years.  Are you suffering from age dementia again?

Unlike you I am going to express sympathy to Nadal.   He came into the series not in the best of form and he apparently carried an injury as well - even though he denied that he had an injury problem.   He obviously has a problem - it is hard for a 36 year-old to get over injuries. He took 4 sets to win in Round 1 and now he lost against Mackenzie McDonald in 3 sets.

It will hit him badly from a ranking perspective - he is likely to go down to about 8th or 9th in the rankings.

Berretini was seeded, Murray way not. When they got to the fifth set all Berretini had to do was hold his nerve, Murray’s body was imploding. And then he dumped the easiest  put away to win the match in the net.

Nadal was clearly not match fit, watch for him at Rolland Garros.

Unfortunately seuntjie Alcatraz did the splits once too often….he should be himself and not try to emulate the Joker.

He was seeded at number 15 -  but so were a number of players whose performances has been on the seeding list.   How your usage of the topic was total BS.

Nadal has a problem  - like in the case of Federer he has injury problems and those problems are not easily dealt with - it takes longer for an older player to overcome injuries than for a younger player.   There is also the matter of form which in the case of Nadal in the last six months of 2022 was substandard.    There were constant reported of injuries impacting on his game.

Under the circumstances I think that Nadal may not even make it to play at Roland Garros this year.    If he does will he win the tournament - I doubt it very much.    You must remember that the loss in the Aussie Open is bound to cost him circa 1920 ranking points,   He is bound to lose another 500 points for not playing in the Mexican Open and a further 600 points if he does not play at Indian Wells.    He may be back at the European Clay court season - but will that be.

I sympathies with Nadal and the situation he is in.   What has Alcaraz to do with the scenario?   I sympathize with Nadal and Alcaraz as well.  You apparently enjoy the fact that Alcaraz sustained an injury while training in December.     Typical Mozart approach.

Your sympathy has about as much sincerity as a Comey assurance. And sure Nadal had an awful 2022, he only won 2 Majors.

I am a realist as well and that is a fact that aging players goes backwards in performances and in the case of the French Open he won because assistance iro of the injury sustained by .Zverev as well.   I may end that was a near to career-ending injury.   Nadal strongest point all along was clay court tennis and in the 2022 season he won - other than Roland Gaross no clay court titles.   After Roland Garros  he won nothing.

Now back to Murray,   He is apparently extremely fit for a player of his age.   He beat the out of form Berrettini in a 5-setter in Round 1 and followed that up with another 5-set win against Kokkinakis.   In all he played for over 9 hours and it is rare for players to go further in any Major series to succeed further

His next game is against another player who survived a 5-setter in Round 2 - a player with a good record on lower-level tournaments - who is seeded at 24.
