Looking at te above I look at t route to the Semifinals of Sinner and Djokovic:-

*      Sinnwer will have to beat Medvedev in Quarterfinals to reach the semi's against Alcaraz

*      Djokovic wil have to play either Rublev of Helecka in the quarterfinals and that may sounmd easy - but it won't be.   He does not like paying against Rublev - for him it is a hard drive in his own words - and to meet with Zverev in the Semi.-finals

In a new controvercy it came to light that Sinner was ested posticve for steroids in his system in March 2024 ad he was not suspended as was the case normally.   10 days later anew test found te same substance in his body.

In Round 1 there were 128 players participating - Round 2 will entail 64 players - Round 3  will entil 32 players and Roud4 will be 16 players.  

 In total 6 of the 32 seeds lost their matches in Round 1 of the tournament     None of the seeds  in Round 3 will play seeded players n Round 3 - so further losses in Round 2  would be iro players facing unseeded players,

Based on prsnt erformances and opposition to be faced I reckn about 5 or 6 seeds will be lucky if they win.   Others - like Rublev - is totally unpredictable and ma y self-destruct,   Especially playes invoved in 5 sets matches n Round 1 will fnd it hard to survicve in Round 2.

Ofthe 64 matches played in Round 1 -

*     10 matches went to 5 sets;

*     21 matches went  to 4 sets; and 

*     33 were won in 3 sets.

A shocking display by Alcaraz.   I have never seen such a poor performane by Alcaraz before.  Same with  Djokovic in Round 3

The only real player remaining to win the US Open is Jannik Sinner,       .

That is the saddest looking set of semis in ages…..Sinner is the only player of real interest.

Agree with you on those comments.   If Sinner cannot win in the final it would be a disster - he will have to retire due to injury - there is only 1 top ten seeded player still in the tournament.   The remaining seeds are 12,20 and 25.   Signs are that the final will be between Sinner and Fritz - the latter not having one a tournamnt during 2024,

This is now he last USA tournament and some IPL and exhibition  matches next week - the next tournaments will be in China and Japan  starting on 16 September 2024.   Djokovic  did not go to play in he Far East  Tournaments,   It is not clear whether he will go there this year..     .    

Congrats to Jannik Sinner to win in Flushing Meadow

Very impressive play by Sinner. It was  interesting watching him and Fritz,  almost mirror images. It came down to patience, after 10 shots in the rally Fritz would go for broke and inevitably he lost most of those points.

In fact Fritz has the bigger serve by about  5 mph. But Sinner had better placement. I’m not sure about Wimbledon, he is so gangly and seems about to hurt himself, but the French should be very doable.

As for Fritz, he could win one of these things….but why not try to  volley a bit behind that huge serve. And above all he needs to gut out the long rallies.

I believe you are 100% correct - but Sinner is a top player with rathe to many niggles and injury problems - so he can be unpredtable.    He ahs no oen clay court matches - I do not think he won a single Court trophy this year.   So he has a problem on clay courts.   The one he was the favorite o win wa Madrid - but he retired with an injury and never returned to play until Wimbledon where he was so-so.

A very top class player - but one wonders how long he is going to last.    

As to Fritz he is unpredictable and ws for a while outside of the top ten rankings - but is now back as no 7 ranked player,  The only  torunament he won over the last year was the ATP 500 one in Japan in Septmber last year.   He is a much better player than his present win record indicates .      ,
