It's early days but hot favourite Scottie Scheffler already shares the lead on -3.

He shares the lead with two Englishemn Tyrell Hattin and Justin Rose . . . but note that Rose is 3 under after just 4 holes!

Come on Rory!

Disaster for Rory on the 15th during the 1st round . . . chipping right across the green into the water for a double bogey . . . and he added another double bogey on the 17th to drop right out of contention, but what a comeback on day 2 shooting a brilliant 66.

Rory is ust 2 off the lead going into round 3. I'm also pulling for leader Justin Rose.

Incredible start to the 3rd round. De Chambeau sinks a 30 footer to birdie and tie the lead and a few minutes later, Rory chips in for an eagle to take the outright lead.

Rory McIlroy takes a 2 shot lead into the final round of the Masters. Bryson de Chambeau sank an amazing 50 foot birdie putt on the 18th to stay in touch.

Looks like a 2 horse race . . . unless one of Corey Conners, Ludvig Aberg or Patrick Reed shoots the lights out tomorrow.

The Masters is the only major Rory has never won so if he wins he'll finally have the Grand Slam.

What an incredible finish to a major, whatever happens!

McIlroy had a 5 shot lead going into Amen Corner and blew it.

As I type it's a 3 way tie for the lead, Justin Rose, Rory McIlroy and Ludvig Aberg all on -10.

Apr 14, 2025, 00:06

And Rory plays probably the greatest shot I've ever seen on the 15th to give himself an eagle chance. Evem the birdie should be enough because the 18th is a tough hole to birdie for Aberg or Rose.

Truly the shot of a champion. Rory has regained control of this . . . and not a moment too soon as he was heading towards the title of greatest choke ever!

Come on Rory!

Apr 14, 2025, 00:09

Rory misses the eagle putt with a bit of a tame effort . . . but the birdie gives him the lead.

Apr 14, 2025, 00:15

Ludvig Aberg will win majors . . . just not this one. Great shot from Rory on the 16th.

Hang on, Justin Rose has just birdied the 18th to tie. Rory now needs this putt for birdie.

Incredible drama!

Rory misses the birdie and now needs a birdie in the last two holes to win. Playoff looks the best bet . . . but who knows?

Apr 14, 2025, 00:19

Now Patrick Reed sinks his approach at the 17th for eagle to move to -9. Amazing golf!

Apr 14, 2025, 00:27

Rory plays a brilliant shot at the 17th to set up a birdie putt. Surely that's it now? I've given up predicting anything here. Just the most amazing major finish I can remember in all my years of watching.

Apr 14, 2025, 00:42

Great drive from Rory on the 18th.

Surely . . .

Apr 14, 2025, 00:46

Rory sticks it in the bunker! Is there another twist?

Apr 14, 2025, 00:50

Rory leaves himself a tester of about 6 feet for the win . . . it all comes down to this . . .

Apr 14, 2025, 00:52

Maybe only 4 feet looking at it now . . . he misses!!!

Playoff!

Apr 14, 2025, 01:11

Both hit good drives. Rose's second is about 12 feet away. Rory plays the shot of a lifetime and is less than 4 feet away. Advantage Rory.

Apr 14, 2025, 01:15

So much pressure. I don't know how they cope . . . Rose misses! Rory has another shot for glory.

Apr 14, 2025, 01:22

And this time . . . he sinks! Rory McIlroy wins perhaps the greatest major ever!

An ecstatic Rory McIlroy celebrates a famous victory

Rory McIlroy ended his major drought in barely believable fashion by beating Justin Rose in a play-off to win the 89th Masters and complete the career grand slam.

McIlroy birdied the first extra hole after the pair had finished tied on 11-under-par following an extraordinary final round.

On his 11th attempt to join golf's most exclusive club and 3,900 days after his last major victory in the 2014 US PGA, McIlroy almost threw away a five-shot lead before claiming a coveted green jacket at a pulsating Augusta National.

AS IT HAPPENED: RORY MAKES HISTORY

G'onya Rory, he comes across as being humble.

With the two competitors paired up for the final round, those watching in person or on television might have wondered what sorts of interactions there were between the two as they walked the course. But according to DeChambeau, there wasn't any chatter — friendly or otherwise.

"Didn't talk to me once all day," DeChambeau said, via Golf.com.

Asked if he tried to initiate any conversation with McIlroy, DeChambeau replied, "He wouldn't talk to me."
