Black Ferns and All Blacks coaching maestro Wayne Smith has lambasted the state of rugby and its lawmakers, saying he recently stopped watching a game on TV “for the first time” out of pure frustration.

I 1000% agree with him on the rolling mauls, the incessant penalties, the faux play during advantage and the scrum penalties (not his point).

The maul is a blight on the game and now by far the preferred way of scoring a try…in the old days it was because your center took the gap.

Rugby is still good theatre but policed way too much.

The change for aesthetics is where union went wrong. Using refs to artificially control how the game looked for the casuals. Then it came down to differing interpretations and styles of reffing. It's a real mess. I can only imagine the corruption behind the scenes.
