I assume none of the above has ever happened to you?

Sure, I played tighthead.
The only sidestepping in your house is when you lean in for a kiss

Yep the step, holding a pass and letting it go at the perfect moment, running a great line that you preempt and your team mate reads it, but probably right at the top was putting your shoulder into someone and bouncing him
Playing centre I used to always target my opponent and go for him full tilt the first time I got the ball. I remember once having a tall rangy guy as my opposite number and was licking my lips
I lined him up and fuck me he put me on my arse
Putting in a well executed low tackle was always a good feeling
Worst feeling - throwing a pass that gets intercepted, getting injured and trying to get through a week in training hoping but knowing you are going to miss the next game

, serious question..At 6th team level, did you get the ball often at center?
Ah the ankle tap, whether soccer or rugby ............. so simple & effective.

The properly executed sidestep, as your opponent realizes he has been stepped and is traveling past you, almost in slow motion, but best he can do is pat you on the back as he sails past you leaving acres of open space to run into.
Other great highs…shedding your boots and going kaalvoet after first trying those clogs that pin you to earth….actually making a drop kick….the old collar tackle on a flying wing, now banned. I’m sure those that labor in the scrum have different, more basic highs.
Worst feeling in rugby ….I suppose missing a kick you should have made. But for me the worst feeling is getting ankle tapped when you were sure you were going to score a try. Again your mind is telling you all you have to do is run but you can’t even though nobody is stopping you.
