Best tackle of the year

Grant Williams on Will Jordan in the Wellington blow out. For several reasons. Firstly it was important because it cemented the biggest win over the ABs ever…their complete humiliation. We were going to win by a big margin….but 36 unanswered points is a psychological edge we will keep through the WC.

Secondly Williams could so easily have accepted the try. He was way out of position to get there and the game was won…..Jordan had a clear overlap. He made ground against the fastest NZ back.

Thirdly the tackle had to be clinical. By the time he got there it had to be a first time tackle, bringing the man down but with one extra stride was going to be a try. But the tackle at full speed was perfect, scything Jordan down instantly. And he held on, not allowing any slide towards the line which Jordan probably anticipated….forcing the short grounding.

I can't recall a better open field tackle….this or any year.

Totally…..another great open field tackle

Agreed on both counts.

And I'd add this one.

As if the tackle wasn't enough, Kolbe slides in to collect the ball.
