Yeah I was impressed with his provincial performances, that's why like many I couldn't understand why he wasn't even in the squad initially. Wish he could have gotten more than just 40 minutes in one game, hard to tell too much from that.

If he had started it would have been better to rate his performance. It looked like he was involved in 2 lineout turnovers.
It was unfortunate that his most noticeable contribution was when he was stripped of possession in open play. He was better in the tight phase parts- at least on the day in the limited time he got.

He was included in the first training squad of the year but then got injured and missed out. I think he would have been included. Rassie likes players that has been in camp for multiple seasons and not just once. With so many players used, it is hard to keep track
Promising start. Like Pakster said it was better than I originally thought.
At least he is now a Bok and can't be snaffked by the Scots etc. He will come more into the picture next year.

Hanekom had a solid debut nothing better or worse than say Roos or Elrigh Louw on debut
You can't see how good a player is against a shit team like Wales.
It's when the margins are tighter that the worthy are counted.
Which is why putting him into this game was absolutely pointless.
He should have started against England or Wales.

Wonder if we will actually have a loose trio combo that can play the entire game. We now have Roos, Hannekom and Louw all under 23.
Agree, I have not seen a decent 6 in any of the SA teams, probably why most of them are struggling as there is no one that is a real break down threat.

Take a moment to look at this video clip. Some on here feels that he had a poor debut but actually I don't see him struggling at all. So many tackles, his speed and game awareness. He had some real good carries with decent gain line dominance. He only got stripped once, but that was against 3 Welsh Players. He stole a ball at line out and managed to dominate a collision near his try line, keeping a player well and truly up.
So for me it was an 8/10 debut considering he played at 7 and not 8. Wonder how he would have done had he started at 8 and not come off the bench.
