Wallabies fullback Israel Folau has reportedly turned down an AU$1 million payout to end his dispute with Rugby Australia (RA) over his controversial social media posts.

The Sunday Telegraph reports Folau rejected RA's offer, which would have required him to walk away from his contractual fight, before proceedings began on Saturday.

RA announced it would terminate Folau's contract after he posted homophobic content on social media on April 10. The 30-year-old is challenging the decision.

The Telegraph suggested RA may fear it'll lose its battle against Folau.

RA is bracing for an AU$12 million financial loss for the upcoming season - pushing the code to the brink of collapsing if they have to pay out the entirety of Folau's AU$4 million contract.

Folau took to Instagram in April to proclaim "hell awaits drunks, homosexuals, adulterers, liars, fornicators, thieves, atheists and idolators" unless they repent and turn to Jesus.

Folau argues it is unlawful for the governing body to tear up his four-year contract.

The code-of-conduct hearing will continue on Sunday, but no more witnesses are expected to be called.

On Saturday, Folau, RA chief executive Raelene Castle and Wallabies coach Michael Cheika all gave evidence.

A decision on Folau's future is not expected to be made until mid-next week.

Meanwhile popular French sports magazine L'Equipe has dedicated a special edition to champion sport's fight against homophobia.

The front cover of their latest issue showing an image of two male water polo players kissing each other, the title reading: "Kiss whoever you want."

In its editorial, the magazine also takes aim at "the stream of abject words, uttered, among others, by a well known Australian rugby player".

Folau is later mentioned in a section titled 'Homophobia: A season of hate'.

Australian Rugby has been collapsing for years I can’t see how they can survive this. I think he will go for the full amount but will still walk away from rugby.

The French mag should have had pictures of liars telling lies, adulterers cheating, drunks drinking, fornicators being lascivious and immoral, thieves stealing, atheists sticking it up Christians and idolaters worshipping a gold calf, instead they chose two males kissing. Who’s really homophobic?

I don't think he'll walk away from rugby, well in Oz it's goodnight Sara whereas in Japan there's $2m up for grabs. Easy pickings, why not. Must say that the whole incident has been poorly handled by RA. No-one is winning, look at the 'Tahs, without him they are toast.

True Denny I meant Australian rugby because I don’t think he has much of a choice after this debacle. Wherever he goes he has some major decisions, his wife’s career for one.

May 05, 2019, 06:53

Yes ... there's too much bad blood in Oz for him to continue his rugby there.

I doubt he'll be received favorably anywhere else in the world. His rugby career is over.

Forcing a full payout of his contract would be the best he can expect.

What a mess.

The homos and their loving supporters like Fat Dave have won.

His rugby career is only over in Oz, Japan is a possibility and who knows there might just be a European club that says "piss on that, welcome aboard."

I doubt he'll get a full payout, RA is bankrot, my guess is that there'll be some sort of a compromise.....perhaps a suspension or another wrap over the knuckles.

Who knows he might even be offered a position with Qantas :D

Very funny.

CSA should have banned Amla years ago. I mean, the guy refuses to proudly wear the SAB/Castle logo on his shirt. He even said he doesn't drink alcohol. Scandalous!

I guess, one simple question could have ended his career.

"Heya Hash. Tell us what do you believe your deity thinks about the Babylon water and people that drink it?"

So really he would be forced to do one a few things...

1) Answer truthfully - Get fired

2) Answer untruthfully - Betray his religion

3) Decline to answer - Be denied his right to freedom of expression and religious belief.

Don't you just love the smell of crucified human rights in the morning?

Look on the plus side guys.

A simple brown envelope and a poorly formulated question can now rid us of any player we don't like.

I suggest we start asking the ABs about their faith and how they express it. Surely Buadie goes to church sometimes.

A smart bit of secret camera action could surely catch him singing a hymn with at least one line that offends someone...somewhere.

Folau says he signed no clause banning comments on social media Rugby Australia backed by Qantas say they are his god anyway, same as Stalin did ,sending people to the gulag for 10 years on their poetry.(which was the social media back then)

May 05, 2019, 11:11

Well Plum, I've always been just a tad curious of Amla's refusal to wear the sponsor's logo. I would hazard a guess and say the sponsor pays CSA, CSA then in turn pays their players.

Just because AR are bankrupt doesn't excuse them from paying out the full contract ... surely?

Regarding the Boks ... refusing to sing the natives national anthem is reason enough to be excluded from the mix. Meyer made that point very clear ... and then he went on and on about retaining his integrity ... lol!!

We are expected to sing the natives meaningless hymn with passion ... and discard ours ... we're expected to embrace their flag as our own, which looks more like something one would find outside a shabeen or a spaza shop in some rural area ... all the while discarding our own flag, because they find it offensive ... we are expected to place out hand on our heart while looking at this shabeen's flag and singing their meaningless song ... and we get extra Noddy points if we manage to shed a tear ... or else.

We are expected to do away with everything we hold dear and embrace the natives traditions and godless ways.

Many like Redneck have done so ... and they're here to police us ... they're here to see we correct our ways ... or we'll face the same barrage Folau has.

Just because AR are bankrupt doesn't excuse them from paying out the full contract ... surely?

Read the article, by year's end they'll be $12m in the red and that's not bargaining on what it's going to cost to send Falau sailing off into the sunset. RA is just about ready to implode.

I think it was the globalist rag the Times on their front cover showing a picture of demonrat presidential hopeful Butt i gieg with his husband. That makes him a hero on the progressively disgusting left.

Floau sue the pants off ARU. Time these fascists learnt a lesson. The lesson will include the folly of hiring that absurd goth woman, who looks like a lesbian  vampire. Is she some man hating femnazi trying to destroy Rugby in Oz?

May 06, 2019, 07:57

Is that a wig she has on?

She'd look like that troll leading the zombie horde in The Walking Dead without her wig.

What I don't understand ... is why does she keep saying that all sexual orientations are welcome in Australian rugby? Israel never spoke against the poofs playing Ozzie rugby.

We know that Pocock is a lover of the fags. We know he favours same sex marriage and has declared himself their spokesperson. Maybe it's cause he likes to cop a feel in the loose maul.

Who knows.

Bottom line is ... no one said poofs shouldn't play rugby.

funny as some of the above comments re raylene... she really is an aweful charcter who clearly is clueless and sadly RA chose her over Phil Kearns for the job.... as one eyed commentator he may be at least he has some class and brains.

I think Folau rejecting 1Mil says 2x very clear things:

1 He thinks he will win

2 RA thinks he will win and probably sink the ship at the same time.

I have already given up on the wobblies for WC of course i will still back them but have no emotional buy in. Would like to see Ireland get up but feel they have already peaked.

Could it be RSA back to dominate? Or ABs or Eddie's England... these latter 2 def not on my fav list.

Anyway Redsman prediction - Folau will win courtcase get paid out - raylene get sacked  - Wallabies lose in quarters (if get through pool game).

Folau will go to Japan and make big dollars becasuse guess what...?? they dont really give a rats if he said certain individuals will go to hell unless they repent...

Good night all -
