So Chester Williams has launched his own beer, and it is the only SA beer that will be sold in Japan. Give me a Carling Black Label any day. Nowadays, Carlsberg is my friend to rest on me bellie

Maybe he has linked up with Ashwin Willemse to get all the good deals.

Snark, Carlsberg isn't half bad, but the Vikings don't have a patch on the Dutch and the Belgians when it comes to beer. Belgium must be the most civilized country in the world, with the Netherlands a close second!

Czechoslovakia isn't too bad either...if you like it a bit crisper.

@Sharkbok. I’m more of an ale drinker but when it comes to lager, have you tried the Spanish Estrella that we get here?

True what Draad say about the Czechs. Their pilseners are the best, IMO. I like Pilsner Urquall or Staropramen.

Rum.... say no more.... well, a good brandy is nice too. Not that I drink much.

Sep 04, 2019, 19:25

Rum is too uncivilized for my taste!:D

Sep 04, 2019, 19:28

Ale isn't too bad, but nothing beats an ice cold lager or pilsner on a real hot day.

Sep 04, 2019, 19:31

What the hell are you talking about Herr Draht! Many a fine gentleman have tippled of this very refined and flavourful beverage.

Sep 04, 2019, 19:47

Exactly!:D...I did not say I totally abstain...I'm prone to an uncivilized drink of Captain Morgan every once in a blue moon.:D

@Cerayne, no I have not tried that Spanish one yet. Will keep a lookout for it.

@Draad, I tried Netherlands beer in Amsterdam, and I don't remember it being that great. Although I was at the red light district and it might have been all the smoke in every bar.

Staropramen is a great one for the braai but nothing beats pulled Guinness from the club bar after a game in January.

Shot of Kraken to get the blood warm then Guiness till the lads start taxing for the bottles of Ruby Port behind the bar.

Bottled  Desperado is a lekker "wettie" for after summer preseason games.

Brandy & coke still SA's favourite top-shelf dop ?

Sep 05, 2019, 08:07

I enjoy a cold Windhoek draft after a hot day in the garden. I like to place my beer mug in the freezer till it ices over before pouring the brew in.

Rum is definitely not for me. It stinks. Brandy is ok but not something I'll go out and buy. I enjoy a whiskey with Perrier water and a nice white wine is always welcome.

Yeah Xavi. A Guinness from time to time is great as well. Haven’t had one for a while. Maybe it’s time.

Dutch beer: Amstel, Heineken and Oranjeboom.

Belgium: Stella Artois, Davel and a beer from a monastery somewhere in the can only buy it from the monks after vowing to share it freely and never selling any.

Sep 05, 2019, 13:05

@Draad, Stella is ok as well but Davel? I think you mean Duvel. Blech. Had it once. It is actually a pale ale. I didn’t like it at all. Very bitter.

The over imbibing taking place here explains the lack of lucidity so often displayed. Hahahahaha.

Temperance oaks temperance!!!
