But can they sustain it. Amazing watching the Pom scrum putting one over Ireland, Cole and Genge….you can’t be serious!

Mar 09, 2024, 17:13

...can't believe I'm cheering on the Poms...:D

Mar 09, 2024, 17:26

Poms are hyped.

Mar 09, 2024, 18:00

Irish try time….very similar to the Pom first try

Mar 09, 2024, 18:03

And the Poms come back….perhaps the first compelling test since the WC.

Mar 09, 2024, 18:36

Poms are are a good side. Underrated at the RWC.

Mar 09, 2024, 18:37

And England win on a Marcus Smith drop….they played with passion today. Great game.

Mar 09, 2024, 18:37

I guess the Irish are still peaking at the wrong time :ermm: For shame.

Mar 09, 2024, 18:39

oops!

Mar 09, 2024, 18:46

Ireland’s defense was quite poor today…a lot of straightforward missed tackles. Hard to see how they beat the Boks at home.

What a stupid kick from Murray with 90 seconds left!

Gutted by the result but great game.

Mar 09, 2024, 20:15

Good win :)

Mar 09, 2024, 22:35

Great to see Ireland handed one - well played England. Ben Earl was unbelievable

Good old Aki having Earl run straight through him to score

Mar 10, 2024, 00:42

Agreed Earl is the kind of ball carrier we have missed in the Dud era.

It's lonely at the top...good to see Ireland can be beaten by the likes of the Poms...kinda put the Poms semi vs the Boks in a different perspective...Ireland’s tour to South Africa is going to be epic...

2 results in the 6N which went against the expectations...good thing for the competition. ...Frogs must be a little bit worried?

That was a very good performance by England yesterday, they showed nothing like that at the world cup.

Ireland’s tour to South Africa is going to be epic.

Yeah looking forward to it.

Yeah great results for the 6 Nations. Frogs should beat Wales. Be interesting to see if England can maintain that performance against France away from home.

Mar 10, 2024, 08:53

kinda put the Poms semi vs the Boks in a different perspective

About as much as Scotland beating the Poms or the Poms scraping through against Italy puts anything in perspective, Draad.

Mar 10, 2024, 12:18

All the 6N sides are good the only one that has regressed is Wales

Mar 10, 2024, 13:46

England were shit in the WC, Dave. Fiji nearly handed it to them.

Mar 10, 2024, 14:14

Perhaps it puts the WC loss to Ireland in perspective.

Mar 10, 2024, 15:03

Yeah but they came good against us in the semi and them beating a very good Irish side yesterday confirms to me they are a more than handy side

Those players are good on paper but new coach means time is needed - they are starting to look like a team that knows what it’s doing

They looked good against Ireland and Ireland showed their class hanging in when they were the weaker side on the day

Mar 10, 2024, 15:06

Yeah but they came good against us in the semi

They were shit against us in the semi. What did they do that could be considered "good"?

Mar 10, 2024, 15:50

They had a good first half converting pressure into points - they had a first half lead thanks to putting in their best performance in the last 12 months

Mar 10, 2024, 17:07

Point being, they are a good team who've been under performing for a while...they're still capable of winning the odd big match.

Mar 10, 2024, 17:35

They had a good first half converting pressure in the points - they had a first half lead thanks to putting in their best performance in the last 12 months

They kicked on us, dominated the air and kept their error rate down. That was all they did that could be considered good. They had nothing else to offer, yet we kept kicking everything back to them, feeding their area of dominance. That's all that kept them in it, us playing to their strengths and not making even the least effort to change lanes. Thank the bomb squad and Pollard for getting us out of that mess.

Mar 10, 2024, 23:40

So that had nothing to do with England applying the pressure then? You apply pressure and get rewarded for it is usually the sign that you are in control of things. England played well in that first half

Mar 11, 2024, 14:09

They were able to exert pressure because we exerted none….remember Dud Toit apparently commented on that at half time. You do believe Dud don’t you Dave?

Mar 11, 2024, 15:07

PSDT said nothing of a sort

Mar 11, 2024, 15:25

Well anyway, it was a good game on Saturday and we actually deserved to win.

Let’s see what this Saturday brings.

Mar 11, 2024, 16:13

A solid game by England, at least they are using their backs and putting the ball wide.

Mar 11, 2024, 17:03

https://www.ruckersforum.com/forum/rugby/what-pieter-steph-du-toit-said-at-halftime-semi-final-to-save-the-springboks-rugby-world-cup/45822/

Listen to it again…..Pollard quoted Dud as saying’ we just have to wake up’. Please check your facts Dave I can’t always be around to set you straight.

Mar 11, 2024, 17:24

PSDT says nothing about not applying pressure all he says in Afrikaans is stop being scared

Mar 11, 2024, 17:28

So while they were scared they applied pressure….Pollard also said it was a mess. Two senior Boks basically said we were not competing. Which is true and easy to admit unless of course that means Eluckmiss didn’t have his team prepared.

Mar 11, 2024, 17:38

I hardly think the team was literally scared now was it Moz?

Fuck me we have done this to death. At halftime the coach has his say while the players sit quietly and listen.

Thereafter the players get into a huddle and say their bit and gee each other up. On this occasion it was the quiet PSDT that had his say. That’s what made it standout, was the fact that PSDT felt drawn to speak.

Of course things needed to change, we were losing, the coach would have identified the changes needed and it was then up to the players to execute. It’s that huddle and squeeze and vocalisation in the circle just before going out that raises the spirits to go out there an execute

It’s why Rassie is the most astute and the best in the business. He identifies issues and makes changes and has a team determined and resolved enough to execute and win when it counts

The man is a rugby genius with a record to prove it. You simply can’t match a CV with two WC victories on it. It’s Dr Rassie these days

Mar 11, 2024, 17:42

Looking at my comments again on the live thread not much seemed to have changed in the second half. My frustration with the way were handing over possession remained, and in fact England had even more possession in the second half than in the first. So not sure if anything PSDT said made much of a difference - sounds like more media pablum. The bomb squad arrived to give us scrum parity and some momentum in the last 20 minutes. That saved the game, along with that incredible Pollard penalty.

Mar 11, 2024, 19:21

pablum:ermm:

Mar 11, 2024, 20:52

Agree with you, Sharkbok.

Mar 11, 2024, 20:53

Bullshit we dominated their scrum in the second half - created enough pressure through the scrum to get the line out in the corner which ended with the RG try

No try no victory

Reality dictates that what gets said at halftime by players is something that lifts the team for all of about 2 or 3 minutes - once the game gets going all that chest beating stuff amounts to a distant memory

Mar 12, 2024, 01:02

The game was England’s ….Stewart fielded a high kick just inside the half. Incredibly stupidly he launched a high kick which went nowhere. A deep kick would have probably won the game for England, it was minute 77.

But he kicked short. England conceded a scrum and Ox won the predictable penalty. And Pollard unerringly nailed the kick from the halfway line.

That’s how the game was won…genius huh?

Mar 12, 2024, 17:46

Oh what utter crap - England were dominated all second half they crumbled under the pressure

We won thanks to forward dominance in the second half that lead to the RG try and the Pollard kick

The genius is in Rassie keeping his bench strong by having the likes of Ox and RG on it when most of us would be starting RG. Rassie sees things differently and it counts

Any mistakes by the likes of Steward etc was thanks to the pressure we exerted and the lack of composure they displayed.

The polar opposite to the Boks who thanks to Rassie had the belief and resolve to win every game that counted

Not just in one WC but two - the second one being the hardest WC victory route ever - the mark of a rugby genius

Take a bow Dr Rassie Erasmus

Mar 12, 2024, 19:33

.

Mar 12, 2024, 19:55

Thanks Blob :)

Mar 12, 2024, 19:57

So you are saying England would have won if they kept their composure. My point as well. Obviously Erasmus didn’t control their composure….so he had to rely on them imploding, like the French. Hardly a reason for the porker to risk his back by taking  a bow.

Mar 12, 2024, 20:07

Fuck me Moz they lost composure as they had no metal and were folding under the pressure exerted on them by the opposition. We dominated them in the second half and won it fair and square

The mark of a great side and coach is to have that metal, keep the composure and win those important games

Take a bow Dr Erasmus you class act

Thank fuck we have the best coach in the business bringing home all the trophies

Moz your continued bashing of our Dr is embarrassing. A lone wolf with no bark

Mar 12, 2024, 20:31

If we dominated them, why was it so close? It could have gone either way in the last 3 WC games….

Mar 12, 2024, 21:10

Dr hahahaha….I missed that. That’s hilarious. What was his dissertation on….the role of luck in our two WC wins? Hold on it’s an honorary doctorate, they just give it to you.

Only the volk could pull this one. Potch university make a coach a doctor. It reminds one of a whole bunch of honorary doctors given to politicians who actually used their title.

Mar 12, 2024, 21:45

Thankfully he can’t get an honorary Knighthood !

Mar 12, 2024, 22:18

Saved that for Sir Nick Faldo, now selling shoes.

Mar 12, 2024, 23:34

:)

Mar 13, 2024, 18:52

Moz do you have an honorary doctorate?

Mar 13, 2024, 18:54

No Becs no one gives a fuck about any acknowledgment bestowed by the English

Mar 13, 2024, 19:29

Carry on like this and I’ll get you deported, Saffex

Mar 13, 2024, 19:49

:)

Mar 13, 2024, 21:09

Asking for trouble, Saffex.

Mar 13, 2024, 23:36

No honorary doctorate, just a real one.

Mar 14, 2024, 00:55

England deserved their victory but the ease of which Lowe scored twice should wurry the poms a wee bit.

Mar 14, 2024, 19:38

We’re a work in progress, Blob.
