There are only a few people on the board whose takes takes I'm actually interested in on this subject, and they're all massive noobs.

Definitely not Sacha...Willemse or Nortje...I'm a WP man, so... :-) Siya will however remain captain till the world cup.
Siya
Siya.
Duh!
Esterhozen….he has put the Sharks on his shoulders and lifted their game. They are a happy team led by a man that frequently has a smile on his face, is thoughtful and articulate.

There isn't a very long list of qualified candidates.
i've never understood why Marx wasn't in contention. Perhaps it was a consequence of being the bombsquad captain and not starting most games until recently. He just seem like a non nonsense guy and like he'd barely notice the weight of the armband. Perhaps that ship has sailed, but I can't say that I wouldn't love to see him lead the Boks into the WC.
Other than that it's pretty slim pickings. Don't even start on Jessica as captain because that's a joke. I don't think anybody here likes that idea or sees any reason why he should be the skipper.
And then who else is there? Perhaps Willemse. He can't really lead from the front but in terms of age and experience, he has to make the list.
Esterhuizen? The Sharks defos seem to be rallying around him and there is something inspirational about the guy. Having played second fiddle to DDA but always doing what was asked of him and there isn't a picture anywhere on earth of him with this hands on his hips. He certainly does lead from the front. My rating of him has only ever improved.
In a perfect world, Hanekom comes back from injury, hits the ground running, overtakes everybody else, gets into the Boks, gets the armband and holds it for the the next decade. But the world isn't perfect. He needs to prove that his body can hold up because if it can't then nothing else matters.
Elrigh is a natural leader. But he has some work to do in getting back to his prior best first. But they call him Kaptein for a reason. If he holds up and is selected for the Boks this year he may be an good shout.
And then there is the one guy that nobody considers but who might be right on top of Rassie's list. The guy that Rassie never thought he would find. The reincarnated Mostert 2.0 - Nortje. As good as Mostert in the rough and right up there with Matfield at lineout time. An engine that needs to be studied by science and he has captaincy credentials. Could he be the right choice?
Whats strange to me is that Rassie hasn't given any hints as to who the next long term skipper may be. When he's had the chance to blood a new captain, he's given the armband to guys just as old as Siya. Perhaps he's still undecided too.
One thing is for sure, right now anyway, it can't be Sacha. I don't like the idea at all and recent evidence is only strengthening my resolve.
