Based on itss for m the Horse has not have a snowballs hope in hell of winmning - but I nonetheless for fun put R50 on the horse to win and R30 to run in the first three, I know the Springboks - and especially Du Toit and D e Allende are the best two players in their different positions in the world.- so lets see what is going to happen.

Th e bloody donkey came third - so I did not lose any money on the race, Must say it was a close third

- less than half a length from winning,

Lol Mike...a donkey is a noble steed after all. ;-)

Horse racing is a humbling pastime.

I know ou Maaik and Dense will agree with me on this.

But it is wonderful. The colours, the excitement, the cross-section of humanity who follow this great sport . . . and the champions. The Secretariats, the Frankels, the Horse Chestnuts and the Dancing Braves.

There's nothing quite like a day at the races. Well, maybe being on the upper slopes of a Tour de France mountain finish or a Springboks vs All Blacks test match at Ellis Park . . . but there are not a lot of things that beat a day at the races.

Will my account balance is R1 199 and I have doubles with horses raising in Fairvie tomoprrow that will push my wins up to anpther R1 500 tomorrowm

Bit wait or the Kings Cup at Kenilworth, on 10 January. The race started in 1861 froma donation of 500 pounds b Queen Voctorua to promote racing in Cape Town. So it was the Queens Cup until 1901 and then became the Kings Cup and became the Queens Cup again in 1952 until the death of Queen Elizabeth and from 2023 it ias again the Kings Cup. Trditionally the King of Queen would send a message through the UK Ambaassador red out at the meeting.

Rupert's wife was bored and her sister-in-law and she started operating a breeding farm for thoroughbred race horses with ultra expensive stallions used, They have six such stallions used to cover mares and the fee is R200 000 for a sudsessful cover. So if each stallions cover 15 mares a month the income is $18 million per month. Easy profit of R17 million a month,

Since 2023 Drakenstein Breeding farm and the Rupert family fund the full prize money for all the races of the Kings Cup daym - something like like R60 million Rand, That is where the money to fund Rugby players like Sacha and iWllemse comes from as well, The Ripert family has a rogram idenifyin sports development and they have a facility in Stellenboch where children with spoting potenmtial are accommodated under strict development comditons with emdical and physical processes are applied, The children then attend he Paul Roos Gym and two of the players tha makde hay were Willemse and Jantjies - the scrummie. Rupert and Motsepe owns the Bulls fraxhise - they ahve 74,5% of the shareholdng - and rhey appointed Brits to manage their rugby interests, End result - White was fired as Bulls coach. .

A Bid of advice though to people betting on horses, Look first a the form of the horses and then who the jockeys are. Look mostly for horses riiden by Richard Fourie, Craig Zackey and Gavin Lerena when making bets, There is also a female jockey Venniker that cause havoc in some races,

I do not know whether you knew the rcibg hustory well. I became a close friend of Joy Barendse - whose ex-husband Charkie was a top jokcy for many years in teh 1950's and 1960'd/ Joy Barendse duagther Kerry married Aubrey Roberts and her two daughters married Jeff Lloyd (called the Governor in racing circles) and Glynn Schofield,

From the 1970's I went to the races together with Joy and Kerry regularly. Normally we sat in the members area to have lunch and often even the table next to the Oppenheimers and Gary Player, Gary was at the Summer Cup race in November when it came out he is 91 years old,

Aubrey and after he died Glyn invited only family members to have Christmas dinner wth them - the only exception was me, When Lloyd and Schofield left SA in 2007 the tears were streaming when I had a farewell meal at a restaurant in Umhlanga, So I promised to visit the family in 2008. Joy died in Australia - she was 101 years old,

I always phone them in Australia a few times a year..

In the late 1970's my net income was R550 a month, That did not bother me until I found that my money turnover in my cheque account was R17 000 a month - a massive amopunt those days, All coming from racing wins. I went to a race meeting in June 1980 - and took R30 with me. I backed every winner that day. One horae I backed in the 6th race was called Blazing inferno T 6/1, After watching the horses going io start I saw the ofdds went up to 10/1. I said hell that is unbelievable so I went to every bookmaker - 14 of them - and put a bet of R50 each on Blazing Inferno. The horse won by 2 lengths and my collection prioess started, So my next bet was on Over the Air - putting a R1000 bet on that one. When I got home I found that I had R15 000 with me.

The system was fairly regular go to the races in summer and to rugby in winter - bar a few major races and cricket tests after 1992/ I must admit I miss that very much .

Right on......there's nothing like the build up lets say to the Golden Slipper and the Melbourne Cup and any other classic race in every other country(I'd give anything to be at the Kentucky Derby)

Then of course there's the thrill of the race with icing on the cake if your horse gets up......but you know, if it doesn't, which probably it won't there's always the next race.

It's easier picking the stock market than picking a winner LOL

I struggle with sports that don’t challenge a humans skills to the full - horse racing, motor sports, bobsleigh, equestrian etc

Yes there is an element of skill but it’s ultimately the car, the horse etc

Jan 02, 2026, 00:30

Newcastle where.....in Australia or in Pommerana?

Jan 02, 2026, 05:52

The Secretariats, the Frankels, the Horse Chestnuts and the Dancing Braves.

Let's not forget Saddlers Wells, Phar Lap(Ozzie which back in the day raced in the USA), Kingston Town, Winx ,Black Caviar(won a G1 in Pommerana) and Makaybe Diva who won the Melbourne Cup a record three times. I'm sure there's a few more.

"Yes there is an element of skill but it’s ultimately the car, the horse etc"

Someone should tell Mercedes that they don't need to spend that much on drivers.

Jan 02, 2026, 08:09

Denny Pommerania.

Ag Man go with the good things for a change.

In Sydney, stick with the trainer and Jockey combo of Waller(T)/JMac(J)/Tommy Berry/Zac Lloyd(De Wunderkind)

Also Trainer John O'Shea and wunderkind (Zac Lloyd) you'll know him as your mate Jeff Lloyd's son.

That said my take is 10% of all your winnings.

Thank you kindly.

I have anmde bets in ustralia and especially in races run in the Sdney area. But unfiortunetely i am normallya lseep when races are run.

I always chaec try and look at the races run at Warwick Farm, Rosehill and Randwick courses. to follow Mac Donald and Zak Lloyd and even at times Schofield junior as well. Thanlks anyway, The race cards are only available late on Friday if for isnatnce the races are run the enxt day. They also do nt provide odds - you must back at SP.

You can be of great help if you can send me info on the races in Sydney in which the three jockyeys mentioned is riding uaing the racing subgroup, on site. Kind regards anyway. . .

Jan 02, 2026, 11:36

Will do, not a problem.

Forget Warwick Farm, it would be our Durbanville.

Rosehill would be Milnerton and Randwick would be Kenilworth.

Here's the link....be warned ther'es a lot of strond in tomorrows meeting at Randwick but I'll still email you Zacs mounts

Well done. Zac has 3 for the day and one 3rd, stick with the wunderkind. He rides for the laeding stable but his his favorite stable is John O'Shea , he rode a winner for them today.

Ja, I see Chad had a winner and so did Tommy Berry who had one ride for the day. I backed it, was enough of tip for me.

I've backed a 13/1 pop in Brisbane, it's Josh Parr's only ride for the day and it's for his favorite stable. The horse has little to no form.

Jan 03, 2026, 08:52

My 13/1 pop ran second(Robusto), beaten by one better, paid out $4.20 for a place.

Jan 03, 2026, 08:56

Going to go nuts, backing the young girl apprentice in open race #9

Jan 03, 2026, 11:41

Denny, Phar Lap was born and bred in Timaru NZ. Aussies will always forget critical info like that when it suits them……

Jan 03, 2026, 11:47

Sure, but where did he train and race?

Jan 04, 2026, 10:33

In Aussie but if you know anything about thoroughbreds, it’s where they were bred.

That champion would’ve won wherever he was trained or raced….

Jan 04, 2026, 18:34

Mike if you scroll along on opening you will find a section that is defined as HORSE RACING.

Jan 04, 2026, 19:23
