What a player who is in great form these days - showing the touches of a back in open play

And to think some idiots don’t rate him

Has he made a turnover yet…or does he still back off the moment he senses an opposition clean out.

Jan 16, 2023, 21:31

Someone needs to tell Kolisi which turnovers we want him to be making! Instead of being a water boy, just hand him a clipboard, paper and pen and have him watch Kwagga. Kwagga can teach this big back how to be a 6.

Jan 16, 2023, 23:33

Yes made some turnovers and has simply been brilliant in open play

Kolisi is pure class

But you lot are the same ignorant fools who don’t rate PSDT, Lood, Malherbe, Kitshoff, de Allende and Mapimpi

But you do rate Mostert and the current Frans Steyn

I rest my case

Jan 17, 2023, 04:34

Where did I say I don't rate Kits or Mapimpi? I don't think Kits is an Os or a Beast, but he is solid. Not a dominant force in the scrum though. Mapimpi, like Pollard, Am, Eben, and Faf, has deteriorated under Erasputin's coaching. Kolisi has never and will never be test material. One of the biggest passengers in test rugby history.

Jan 17, 2023, 08:04

I have said it quite a few times already, Kwagga just doesn't get the credit he deserves....

Jan 17, 2023, 12:36

Kwagga is very good but Kolisi is better

Kwagga is the perfect test impact player off the bench, much like Schalk Brits was

Jan 17, 2023, 12:54

Kwagga is a game changer. He is the most important Bok. Kolisi is a body in a jersey. The two cannot be compared.

Jan 17, 2023, 14:54

I have to agree, been really impressed with him over the last 6 months. Made a massive difference for the sharks and seem to be everywhere at the moment on the park.

Maybe Neill Powel has had an influence on him.

I notice the sharks are far sharper at the breakdown these days.

Still not a fetch like Kwagga, but does his spot tackles in the 10 channel.

Jan 17, 2023, 15:06

We take his test performances and they are not good enough. This Bok side is not selected on merit or performance. How can we be the best team in world rugby when we have nearly half the starting lineup who cannot win their battles on the field? Kolisi has moments where he can help assist carriers and tacklers, but this is usually very limited. His tackle assists, which pad out his stats sheet, very seldom have much affect on the momentum of the tackler. His most effective contributions seem to be adding driving force to the likes of Damian, who cannot get over the gainline on their own. He has had a few tests where he has won turnovers, but these are almost entirely fortuitous in that he just happens to be in a position where ball is poorly protected. Can you honestly point to me a situation where the opposition have rumbled forward with momentum and bodies at the breakdown, looking to recycle quickly in a dangerous situation, and Kolisi has made a decisive steal? That's what Louw used to do, such as when he saved our World Cup against Wales, or his three turnovers in 2018 against France when we stole an unlikely victory. Kwagga does these game in and game out. He is very strong for his size, much stronger than Kolisi, he is not a passive player, he has great anticipation and can see play a few phases ahead. He can stall opposition momentum. He totally turned the Italy game on its head by breaking the Italians and giving us a platform which we could attack them in the transitions. Kolisi has never done that. Odd moments that almost never carry any meaning to the result. These two players cannot be compared. Kwagga is a must. We have some smart players, but they are not finding their way onto the field. We don't have many players who have tenacity and a desire to dominate their opposite number. We need that combative edge. Too many passive players who do not think at all about what's going on around them, that just go with the flow. We need to change this. Kolisi is not a leader at all, and he is not a good enough player to make the team at test level. Any domestic game where he supposedly thrives (I've been going over a lot of these games recently and I'm seeing problems that posters are not picking up) leaves me questioning the quality of that rugby.

Kwagga is not close to being the most important Bok, if he was he would start every game

He has never changed a Bok game but if you disagree please provide evidence of this

In fact Kwagga had a very average EOYT making very little impact off the bench. He was disappointing after being more effective earlier in the season

Willie, Mapimpi, Kolbe, Arendse, Am, de Allende, Willemse, Pollard, Faf, Hendrikse, Kitshoff, Ox, Marx, Mbonambi, Malherbe, Etzebeth, Lood, Kolisi, PSDT and Wiese are all more important Boks than Kwagga and that’s a fact

Jan 17, 2023, 18:12

The French club must have seen some evidence of Kolisi's class thus the large investment in buying his contract out from the Sharks.

But, I take my hat off to the owners of the Sharks for their foresight and financial astuteness in negotiating such a deal.

Perhaps now they can afford to bring Kwagga back to RSA and add real class to the squad.

Hopefully.

He changed the Italian test this year. He has had many big moments for the Boks. He is the most disruptive Bok by far. Quite funny how you demand evidence when you are talking to a person who had provided an enormous amount of material to back up his words! Erasputin doesn't reward performance. Kwagga was the most consistent performer, but unfortunately, we have a racist coach who not only brings the game into disreput, he wields Kolisi as a get out of jail card, and as a weapon against the referees. Kwagga is the better player, but his pigmentation is useless for identity politics.

  1. Willie is largely negated. He is not that useful for the game that is played by Erasputin.
  2. Mapimpi has regressed to the point where he is now a liability more often than not. Bad management by Erasputin.
  3. Kolbe has been what the past two years? A penalty waiting to happen?
  4. Arendse is a man who can run fast, poor defence and not ability to function against an organised defence.
  5. Am has regressed under Erasputin. His defence is questionable and his frantic running has exacerbated our problems to form a cohesive attacking threat. He is not important for the game we play.
  6. Damian is the most fundamentally flawed centre I have ever seen. He is outclassed by every opposition 12. I can't think of one game where he has been a good performer.
  7. Willemse is a black Damian.
  8. Pollard is important, and our only test quality 10. That's true.
  9. Faf is unfit and a penalty machine. He is erratic and often makes poor decisions. He caused more problems for us than he has helped us. He always had very poor technical ability. His passing and kicking are inaccurate.
  10. Hendrickse is very good. Not the first name on the team sheet, but he is up there.
  11. Kits is replaceable.
  12. Marx is replaceable.
  13. Bongi is replaceable.
  14. Etzebeth is our only leader on the field. I would put him as my second name on the team sheet.
  15. Lood is replaceable.
  16. Kolisi is replaceable.
  17. PTSD is replaceable.
  18. Wiese is our only guaranteed ball over the advantage line. He is important. Not more important than Kwagga.
Kwagga is the Michael Hooper of the Boks. Nobody else brings what he brings to the table. He is tough and highly consistent. Under a good coach he'd be a sure starter. But, South Africans have a fetish for mediocrity.

Jan 17, 2023, 19:07

What a load of utter bullshit

The Italian test was one way traffic stop speaking shit

Kwagga will never start he is not physical enough to be a regular starter

But you are too fucking stupid to work that out

Jan 17, 2023, 19:21

Kollisi is not your typical 6.....for me he is more a 7....Kollisi does have his strengths and he is playing better Rugby @ the Moment....Kwagga on the other hand is more a 6.....he has the capability to turn a  Game around for his team....we already know he can make a impact of the bench, so now he should Start more games, to make his impact sooner.

Jan 17, 2023, 19:27

It's funny Saffex, your picks always lose their physical battles. Damian, Steph, Lood, Kolisi, Willemse. You can't help but walk right into your own muck! :D

@Mpower: He was tried at 7 numerous times and it simply didn't work. He doesn't fit into the loose trio because he is a big back. Kwagga is much stronger than Kolisi and upgrades on all of his ability, even skills. Kwagga is a phenomenal link man too.

Jan 17, 2023, 19:36

Doos you are rugby ignorant

Jan 17, 2023, 19:47

Wonder what position he will play for Racing 92 ? Saying he doesn't fit in anywhere in the loose trio is harsh....Kollisi is a very capable player, but not always consistent.....if a club like Racing 92 is willing to fork out that much money to buy his contract with the sharks, he definitely has talent.

Jan 18, 2023, 00:17

Kolisi is a good ball carrier in semi space. That’s what he can do. What he can’t do is all the rest.

Jan 18, 2023, 00:23

Bullshit Moz he is a great defender, strong in the trenches and by far our best attacking forward within the Bok set up. A great linking forward with a knack of creating and putting players into space

He is not a turnover king, but effects turnovers when the opportunity presents itself

Right now he is on fire - in great great form for the Sharks

Great player

Jan 19, 2023, 17:14

Well I thought he fitted in really well at Kingsmead.

Jan 19, 2023, 18:06

The Bokke rarely play a classic fetching openside...our hookers, loose heads and 8th men does a lot of fetching. Brussouw being the exception that proves the rule...and to a lesse extent Flo.

Jan 19, 2023, 18:29

Traditionally the Boks are weak on the ground. Players such as Bismarck were good at grabbing exposed ball, but they were not fetches by any stretch of the imagination. Trying to drive attackers off the ball and slow their ball down has been our thing. The only real fetches I can think of are Brussow, Louw, Ruben Kruger, and Kwagga. Thor can win a turnover, maybe I'd add him too. Marx has his moments. The Boks are much better when they have a Kwagga. Without the likes of Kwagga, our speed in transitions is meaningless.

Bob Skinstad was another DbD.
