But these scores tell a more problematic story:

Boks 26/ Japan 3

Boks 16/Wales 16

Boks 18/ England 12

…..

Boks 19/ France 22

Boks 6/ England 12

Boks 12/ NZ 11.

Those are scores when Kolisi left the field. So of the 6 knockout games, only Japan was a done deal and he stayed on to the end of that match. The only WC knockout match he finished.

For the rest we were behind in 2 matches, tied against Wales and ahead in the two finals, by slim margins. His substitution against Wales was instrumental to us winning. Francois Louw his substitute made the crucial turnover.

That doesn’t mean he wasn’t a galvanizing force for the team, but as a player it appears he wasn’t essential to the cause.

Last I checked rugby was a 15 man game on the field

Huge difference between playing the first 30 min and the last 30 min

Fatigue = more opportunities

People talk thrughout all rgby playing countries a  lot about the bomb squad system that keep more players fresh on the field and had a real impact on results - and this idiotic denial of the existence and impact of that situation is both pahetic and idiotic.    Dave is right teams win matches  and not the BS spreading Mozart always managed to start and Pakie and other idiots manage to support.

So let’s try and use our God given ability to think. The narrative of the great leader is out there and accepted. From a marketing point of view it’s a good thing. It feeds into the Rainbow Nation idea that actually  propelled the country in its early days.

That’s all fine. Kolisi is a likeable bloke and makes some good contributions, even if they are hard to predict. They happen when they happen.

But why was he always subbed… a much lighter, more mobile man than Vermeulen or Dud Toit. And he is after all the leader. Shouldn’t he be the one loosie who isn’t subbed.

This gets into the mind of Rasmus.  It’s his decision.. Nienaber be damned. So what does this say about his views. It might just be a rhythm that he likes…..change Kolisi at minute 60 and he never has to think about it. It’s a stress reducer at a time in the match he wants to think about other things.

Or it may be he wants different skills at the close….Francois Louw and Kwagga are better Jackals to use the vernacular. That works if ball protection or even a penalty opportunity (see Francois Louw) is what you are looking for.

But more likely he was just more confident with Vermeulen making the decisions at the death and that was his model, except against Japan when it didn’t matter. Captain Efficacious replaces Captain Courageous  and secures the WC.

Yes we do amnd we come across the logical explanation - the BOMB SQUAD.   Your thinking abiliy is normally twisted and do not take accout of facts and as a result is aways BS.   .
