So, it is with sad new that Sanele has decided to pack it in with the Lions and depart for Japan. It is a real pity that he didn't stick it out. He is only 26 and decided that if he is not the number 1 player in the country then he will pack his bags.

He made his mind up after being snubbed by the boks last year and didn't make it into the final bok selection.

He is not the biggest player, but very brave. He is probably the smallest player in professional rugby. He has proven how lethal he can be in open play and his versatility was also very valuable for the lion by keeping Hendrikse out of the 10 jersey at the lions. However, Rassie opted for Hendrikse as his 10 and saw no value in Hambe.

However, in Afrikaans there is a word "Houding" meaning a player that is sulking because he didn't get his way and has become very difficult to work with.

I'm seeing a pattern with some of the black players. The same thing happened to Sbu Nkosi. He was part of the boks setup but didn't make the final as Rassie opted for Cheslin. He then skipped training a few times for the sharks and then ended up at the bulls where he just disappeared which resulted in a massive search for him that made the news. He then fell out of favour and no other team wants to touch him now.

I believe Sanele is on the same path. I don't know if it is a cultural thing or some agent in his ear filling his head with nonsense.

But rugby doesn't have a place for such players that think they are bigger than the game and their country

He is an awesome talent but his size means he simply can’t cope with being dependable defensively regardless of how brave he is

I’d still have made him a Bok as he is that good
