Any proper streams for the game?
Any proper streams for the game?
Good return kick from Masuku, poor pass from Mapimpi, great run by Bongi but then James Venter loses it and concedes a penalty.
Dan Edwards nails it and the Sharks are down 3-0.
"Any proper streams for the game?"
Wouldn't have a clue. It's on Supersport channel 211 is all I know.
Another good kick from Masuku and great following up by Mapimpi. Sharks on the attack here but Ospreys clear.
Looks like the Sharks are going to take another 40 minutes to get going. They look like a bunch of guys playing together for the first time at the start of each game.
Crazy to think the Sharks can still finish 2nd on the log.
Also...can Williams get healthy again!!!
Jaden Hendrickse is such a weak link in this team. When is Grant Williams fit again?
Sharks pack looks spicy!
Sharks get a penalty 40m out. Masuku kicks for the corner.
Early attacking lineout for Vissie's vissies
nice little trick play by Bongi and Eben
a few phases and Jenkins plops over near the sticks
7-0
Sharks maul it up and Jason Jenkins is over. Masuku converts and it's 7-3.
Jenkins over after a few charge and barge phases.
Fassi lucky to get away with holding on. Should have been a penalty.
Looked like a clear Sharks knock off the kick but the ref misses it.
There you go M
Nice to see Kaizer Chiefs players in the stands supporting rugby.
Ospreys are in through Kieran Hardy after a good grubber . . . but is it a knock on?
Oh no he appears to have spotted it. Try Ospreys down the blind side.
Yes, it looks like a knock-on. I'm sure that will be chalked off. Good defensive work from Ethan Hooker.
Confirmed. No try.
Knock or not, what a deft touch that little kick was.
Knock-on!!
Naand manne.
Less than stellar play from Esterhuizen.
Howzit Draad.
Ospreys win a scrum penalty. They kick for the corner.
Time stamp it for Maaik!
Sharks penalized in the scrum.
Ou Maaik will be droning on about that Esterhuizen error for years to come.
More good defensive work from Ethan Hooker.
Time stamp it for Maaik!
No need, Mike have already seen 12 missed tackles and 6 possession losses.
Hooker is rock solid.
Crazy stat...Jordan Hendrikse is the second highest points scorer in the competition :/
Knock on black? Are you nuts?
Yeah there's no black hand in there.
Agreed Pakie.
No idea why he's in the wing.
I'd shift JJ to wing and get AE and Hooker in midfield
Poor kick from Fassi. He's looking a bit rusty.
Lol Fassi...what was that!?
Sharks free-kicked at scrum this time.
Hooker’s tackle in the corner was very impressive
Vincent Tshituka wins the Sharks a penalty. They're in their own half but Masuku finds a good touch.
Masuku has about 30% the distance that Jordan does in his kicks.
Good turnover Vinnie.
Good grubber by Fassi, good chase from Mapimpi and Sharks win the penalty.
Great counter ruck started by Hooker.
man, I rate this kid
Damn we love to grubber away attacking possession. Kinda works for the Sharks with a penalty from the chaos.
i'll take the steady Masuku before the flaky Jordan any day of the week.
Hooker was the counter ruck….this kid has the basics
As I say that, Masuku screws up and kicks the penalty dead. Bad mistake.
Hooker isn't flashy but he is capable. He gives you the feeling that you can count on him to do the right things and not let the team down.
Masuku messes up and wastes an easy penalty that could have resulted in more points
Masuku is the journeyman's journeyman. Conrad Barnard in black. Barnard had a bigger boot though.
Jac Morgan smashes James Venter backwards.
why are the sharks always shit for at least 60 minutes!?
Sharks love their one player charges into contact. No finesse or smarts.
Eben down with an injury. Not looking good.
dammit!!
Eben is down
Fassi drops it out on the full again. Sharks under pressure with a lineout just outside the 22.
This Doesn’t look good
Yeah that's not a happy face.
Eben limping off. Hope that's not a long-term injury.
Manu Tshituka is on . . . but hang on, Eben wants to stay on. Can't be that serious an injury.
Good defense Jayden.
Eben is still limping. He needs to get off the park...
yeah he's getting subbed
Not convinced Eben should be staying on here. He's hobbling . . . now he is off but thankfully it doesn't look that serious. Manu Tshituka does come on to replace him. Not a bad replacement.
Bit of aerial ping pong but Dan Edwards makes a poor clearance and the Sharks have gained significant ground.
Big hole opens up for Ospreys, good scrambling tackle by Vinnie.
Eben getting carted off.
Can’t be that serious an injury?
Messy maul from the Sharks.
Hozen beats another tackle
Brilliant take Hooker. Didn't have it uncontested, fought for it, got it.
Sharks just keep bashing, god love their unimaginative little rugby socks.
Ethan Hooker never takes his eye off a high ball and he wins it. Esterhuizen busts a few tackles . . . Sharks just short . . . Manu stretches but is just short . . . Esterhuizen does brilliantly to bust through to score. Ou Maaik will be devastated!
Fassi converts? What happened to Masuku?
Fassi has looked a totally different player since he came back from injury and not in a good way...
Sharks rumbling forward
Esterhuizen scores after a few scrappy phases.
Mike...waar is jy?
14-3
Hozen really screwed up- there….haha
And Esterhuizen finally breaks the deadlock and a tackle and scores. Another time stamp for ou Maaik. But what a shambles that was until then.
Esterhuizen is a proper unit...
And to think, Ruan Venter dwarfs him...
Sharks lead 14-3 with 5 minutes to go in the half.
Esterhuizen should be given a fair shot this year, the guy is probably the best 12 in the game right now
Jurenzo Malema now gets the legs pumping.
Fassi drops the high ball. Damn the kid is off his game.
Fassi is looking really bad.
before the injury he couldn't do anything wrong, and now he can't do the basics right
The mind is a funny thing
Ja he seems uncertain….getting involved in the tight stuff near the line also didn’t seem like his thing.
And now a shanked kick from Fassi.
Manu T with a big run but how was that not a knock from Venter on the turnover attempt. Yeah thought so.
"Esterhuizen should be given a fair shot this year, the guy is probably the best 12 in the game right now"
He has been good but Quinn Tupea might have something to say about that if you've been watching Super Rugby Pacifika.
Could have been an Ospreys hand, but anyway, scrum Ospreys.
Hooker again a disruptive influence at the ruck.
Jac Morgan makes another incisive run but then Ospreys knock on and there's the half time hooter.
Sharks lead 14-3.
Did I just see Masuku make a tackle? What is going on.
Well the Sharks weren't great but they did enough to have a good lead at the break. 14-3
Jurenzo Malema haha
2md half and Phepsi Buthelezi on for Manu Tshituka who had just come on himself. Must have picked up an injury.
Phepsi seems to be on for someone.
Eben on crutches.
HIA for Manu apparently.
Ref picks up on very skew Ospreys throw. Sharks have an attacking scrum . . . Hooker makes a good run but Jac Morgan turns it over and Ospreys win a penalty.
Dewi Lake a error machine
Ospreys turn over possession off Hooker's carry.
Fassi fields well and puts in a good clearance kick. Dan Edwards messes up the return and Sharks are back on attack.
Better from Fassi, catch and deep kick. Small steps. Good gain for the Sharks.
This game is making my eyes hurt
Jenkins makes a good charge but Jac Morgan makes yet another turnover. Morgan almost single-handedly keeping Ospreys in this.
Jenkins with a proper pick and go, but the Ospreys turn it over.
Jenkins and Bongi both make good ground and the Sharks win a penalty. Masuku goes for the corner and this time he finds touch.
Jenkins again getting the Sharks good go forward and this time they get the penalty.
Sharks maul it up but they're going backwards . . . and they give up a penalty . . . and it's Jac Morgan again!
Masuku gains 3m with the touch kick but at least it's not dead again.
James Venter for all his biceps is a woefully ineffective carrier. Hit back every single time. Morgan on fire.
Ospreys make a mess of the high ball and Ethan Hooker picks up the pieces and is in to score.
Masuku converts. 21-3.
Hooker always chasing play and up for it gets rewarded with a ruined the sticks.
He's ahead of all the newbies for the Bok spot this year.
And now Venter gets a turnover. Malema with a bit of a run but as usual the Sharks can find no support. Jayden's little stab over the breakdown is fluffed by Giles and Hooker collects to score a deserved try.
Esterhozen again in the right place….
Mapimpi fails to gather but Esterhuizen plows some land with Boshoff.
Esterhuizen at flank now
James Venter is off and the Sharks have run out of forwards. AE packing down at flank.
Venter finds Phepsi's head too much to handle.
Hooker looks much further up the development curve than Julius who had good ball just before the Hooker try and didn’t do much
Looked a bit like hinging to me
Esterhuizen putting so much pressure on from flank the Sharks prop collapses. What a beast.
MCHUNU looks the part but damn he needs to start playing the part.
You look at him and he really does look like a mean machine...but then you watch him and there's very little to write home about
Sharks bench getting stuck in on the defense, hot damn.
Fassi laying down the law there haha
Ntuthuko Mchunu one of the best SA props in general play and improving his scrumming all the time. A real prospect of you ask me.
So many of these South African mercenaries around…on comes another one for the Ospreys.
Sharks penalized at the scrum. Ospreys will have an attacking lineout about 10 out.
Strong maul by Ospreys and reserve hooker Sam Parry scores. Conversion is good and it's 21-10 with 20 to go.
Sharks maul defense looks pretty feeble
Ospreys get some reward finally.
nice set from the maul and rumbling over
21-10
20 minutes to go
Terrific maul by Ospreys nets them a try. Much better than the shambolic Sharks maul efforts so far.
Great leg drive from Phepsi and then JJ makes a good run before Jaden knocks on . . . but it was advantage and Sharks have a penalty. Masuku sets up the attacking lineout.
Nice dart from Malema there.
The problem is that he has no top speed.
Siya Kolisi loses control and Ospreys get out of jail. Sharks back in possession, what a good pass from Mapimpi and Phepsi Buthelezi is in for the try.
26-10 with the kick to come.
There we go Fassi!!!
Great kick pass to Mapimpi, offloads on the inside to Pepsi who runs over an empty line
Masuku misses the conversion. It remains 26-10 with 14 minutes left.
Kolisi with a dart for the line loses it in the tackle. Counter from Ospreys has them up to the 10m line before the Sharks get possession again. Great chip by Fassi for Mapimpi who feeds Phepsi for the score.
Mapimpi looks as good as he ever has….still fast but a mature rugby player
Another good turnover for Ospreys.
Can't fault JuJu's defensive efforts tonight.
...but he does struggle to make an impact.
Hooker jsut seems to find ways to make an impact.
I think Dave needs to give JuJu another season or two.
I'm thinking about Man of the Match and even though he was on the losing side, Jac Morgan would be my pick.
What a tough choice the British Lions have for the #7 jersey. New young gun Henry Pollock, Jac Morgan in this form, tried and trusted Tom Curry or the always impressive Jack Willis? Can't think of a tougher choice Farrell will have to make.
Yeah no one for the Sharks has really been influential or a game changer, they've just bashed open some opportunities. Hooker has been good, Esterhuizen had his moments, Jenkins has made some impact.
Juju can have more impact with a more connected attacking structure. The Sharks are very isolated in attack, poor support lines.
Strong carries from Mchunu and Vincent Tshituka but Ospreys defence is good . . . but it is a penalty to the Sharks and they will set up the attacking lineout . . . no, Siya takes the tap . . . looks like a good call but an unlucky bounce for Mapimpi and Ospreys survive.
Sharks penalized for diving in 5m from the line on attack.
Dammit Fassi...
He treaties a Sacha with that pass...
No it's a Sharks penalty. Whatever.
Julius knocks on and nearly concedes a try but Fassi's pace saves the day. Sharks clear.
Pass could have worked with a nice bounce.
Good save Fassi.
Fassi's quick reactions give Sharks good pressure and they win the penalty . . . Phepsi carries strongly but Ospreys turn it over and clear. Sharks lineout on the Ospreys 22.
Great defensive nous by Hooker
See what I mean about Hooker.
5 minutes to go and he's chasing the ball 60 meters to eventually win a penalty.
That's a guy I want to play for me when the chips are down.
An Ospreys attack now succumbs to the infamous grubber.
Pakie your stream is very far behind lol
Those grubbers all get kicked too far into the next defensive line…it happens almost every time
Pakie your stream is very far behind lol
I know :/
Sometimes I refresh it to hope it catches up only to find it has refreshed to another 30 seconds back from where I was.
Was Kolisi playing tonight?
Haven't seen much of David's for the Sharks but he looks lively.
Kolisi has been about as effective as putting a band-aid on an open artery.
Sharks penalty bang in front and Masuku will kick the three. Not a great game but a workmanlike win by the Sharks.
Masuku's kick is good and 29-10 is the final score. Jac Morgan would still be my Man of the Match. Not sure who was given it?
And that's it.
Scrappy and crappy but the Vissies win it
Hooker is my MOTM...
High ball takes, plenty of defence, a try, counter rucking...
Ethan Hooker named Man of the Match. Not a bad call.
While I watch Masuku place the ball I'll agree that the Sharks was scrappy. They are way under performing but have enough brute force to get the job done.
Yep Hooker is MOTM
You get the feeling Hooker will be fine at test level while someone like Juju will be gobbled up.
Pakie. I think they just have so much individual talent that they manage to win despite being badly coached.
‘Sia Kolisi their inspiring number 8’….there he is Plum. Hooker the MOM…Esterhozen is such a huge unit. Hooker sounds like a smart young man ….a bit of brains doesn’t hurt.
Yeah, Hooker looks like he was born for test rugby.
He just does all the right things.
Thanks for the company boys
Nice interviews from both Ethan Hooker and Jac Morgan. Joel asked Jac about his British Lions selection and he was very humble, saying what a great honour it is.
fgh
Thanks Draad i saw the link to late, next time….Blob thanks for the highlights.
Hooker is performing well but is wasted out on the wing. He is a strong direct runner and a solid defender.
Great for the midfield…
We all know and see that AE needs to start more, let’s hope Erasmus see it to.
Uncle Mike won’t like his try and will find something wrong:)
JJ is very quiet lately, it’s like he isn’t even playing??
I read the usual shit on here - JJ has no top speed - bwhaaaahaaa
Not quite what Stransky had to say about his break
Hooker is solid - nothing special about him - looks for work
JJ with that little break showed way more class than Hooker - the lad glides
But the Sharks play a crap kicking game - they fail to use their outside backs - Fassi, Mapimpi, Hooker and JJ never see much line ball
The wings feed off high balls - it’s boring crap
Jenkins should have won man of the match
But Dave….the experts gave it to Hooker. Please respect the guys who know their rugby. JJ had pretty much a nothing match apart from dropping the ball and nearly conceding a try. Let’s not make the JJ Englebrecht mistake all over again.
Trust you to be stupid enough to highlight a dropped ball - take it you were having a nap when he made that break?
Hooker did nothing of note and that’s a fact.
Jenkins was the best player for the Sharks
I watched the game to see how players like Esterhuizen performed. First of all as toi Esterhuizen he did nothing positive in the first 33 minutes of the match other than a few carries where he was tackled before getting to the gain line and cause problems when he twice passed the ball badly to players outside of him,
At minute 33 the Ospreys made a mistake and Estehuizen picked up the lose ball and with the defense in disarray he scored a try. That was followed during the first half of the match he made no other contribution that had a positive impact and the ball did not reach the outside backs at all becaise it was either kicked away aimlessly by Masuku or faied to get past Esterhuizen. Other than with the try he did one great zero as inside center,
So Plumtree saw that Masuku was shit at flyhalf and Eserhuizen was jeopardising any attacking backline play so he remembered what White did in one match in 2014 - he moved Esterhuizen to play at blindside loosie in an effort to get the backline operational in attacks. It did not contribute to anything in the latter position as well and in the end he was replaced altogether, In the 7 position the Sharks were penalized twice for poor scrumming and that was especially on the side where Esterhuizen was scrumming - so he did nothing in adding to the scrumming either, .
I refrained from making comments at halftime because in fact the Sharks was disappointing against the bottom of the log Ospreys, In many ways a disapponing game made worse by another injury to Etzebeth, Masuku put on the worst display I have seen in the URC from any SA flyhalf this season. Despite the bonus point win against the worst team in the series this year the Sharks in general put up a poor show,
The other disappointment in the match was Fassi at full back - he was indeed disappointing under high blls and his kicking out of hand as disappoining to say te elast, Hope he improves after his injury. He as one player I regaded as the number 1 full back choice in tests this year - he was as bad as Gelant was in the Roundd 15 match. Hope he improves or in that absence would play Kriel or Hooker at full back.
On the whole I am in agreement with Dave - Jenkins should have been the MOM and not Hooker, But then in the land of the blind cockeye is king.
I always believed that Esterhuizen had a 50 -;50 chance to be selected as test number 12, yesterdays perormance make it a zero chance of Esterhuizen being in the Springbok squad this year - since in the number 7 position he failed as well.
,
. .
Ah yes the break….he gets the ball in an overlap situation and a would be tackler peels off to the outside. Accelerating he makes about 25 meters without beating a tackle, eventually beats the fullbacks tackle and is brought down from behind by replacement flanker Harri Deaves.
Stransky completely misses that the flanker actually caught him from behind and goes on about him having some pace.
Then I woke up from my nap. But before that, among other things I saw Hooker counter rucking for turnovers and crash tackling an Osprey right on the corner flag.
He was named man of the match by the science. He was a strong contributor, personally I would have given it to Esterhozen for his superb try.
Mozart
Ester huien was shit during the match and that is a fact confirmed by his move to the number 7 position in the seond half depite the try from broken play scored by him.
, , .
Esterhozen not only beat the first tackle every time he got the ball, he defended resolutely and …..this is the part you never get…..was the clear leader of the backline and the player who was keeping them focused.
Mozart
When did that ahppen - he got tackled before he reached the gain line every time by rthe first defender,
Just explain to us - if EsterhuIen was as good as you explain him o be why was he removed from the center position - where eh was jeopardiin g backline lay to play in the number 7 position in the secoind half of the match. Dont tell me you dd not see that happening.
‘As Esterhuizen’s switch to flank signifies, Etzebeth’s wasn’t the only Sharks injury, with his replacement Emmanuel Tshituka, who came on as a flank so that his brother Vincent could move into the second row alongside Jason Jenkins, being forced off later in the game. The Sharks were severely disrupted and that needs to be taken into account after a game where they got their anticipated comfortable win but still never quite gave the impression they were fully hitting their straps.’
Just explain to us - if EsterhuIen was as good as you explain him o be why was he removed from the center position
Put in simpler terms for the Maaikster - the Sharks had run out of forward replacements. Who would you rather pack down at flank - Juju or Esterhuizen?
Hooker did nothing of note?
Dave, you didn't watch the game. Just admit it.
Off the top of my head;
He collected two high balls from Masuku, netting roughly 80m of ground between the two occasions.
He initiated two counter rucks that resulted in penalties for the Sharks.
He scored a try that was reward the for diligence and that dog in him that never lies down.
With 4-5 minutes left in the game, and the Sharks clearly winning it, he chased a kick almost the full length of the field, for no reasons at all, putting pressure on the receiver...winning yet another penalty.
That's my guy. I see it like this. Moments of brilliance need to happen very frequently in order to outdo 80 minutes of straight-up warrior.
Then there was his rock solid defence - stopping the Ospreys hooker in his tracks down the touch line and close to the Sharks try line.
He was there perpetually, like genie, every time the Sharks broke out.
And he did all of this from the wing....FROM WING FFS!
Dave, he was the most influential player on the field over 80 minutes...easily.
Juju was absent. He was good defensively but one gets the feeling he is a reactive player. Perhaps he'll grow more into the professional game and make better opportunistic reads etc, but we've had an entire season of him now and the evidence for his "greatness" remains scant. Had I wanted to be mean I could say he is a school bully that is realising he's not that strong in the grown up world. But I think he's better than that. However, he's miles away from the insane faith you're putting in him, calling him a future great. Again, on last night's evidence, he has acceleration but gets to his top speed very quickly...and then lacks top speed. I'm telling you Dave, it's a problem.
I'd love to know if anybody that watched the game last night, didn't feel like they would want Hooker in their corner for the Boks.
I can tell you right now, Dave...between me, Moz. Draad, Pakie and Rooi...we are all on the same page as far as Hooker and being a Bok goes.
Don't believe me? Ask them.
Bok Coach Dave to the press explaining his selection of Juju:
"He glides. And Stransky says he has gas."
"Hooker did nothing of note and that’s a fact."
LOL!!!!!
Dont forget Henco van Wyk….A combo of Hooker 12 and Henco 13 sounds good….. Or Esterhuisen at 12 with Hooker at 13….
Uncle Mike is not a happy chappie….and Esterhuisen keeps on rubbing it in with great performances!
Now that AE,s switch to flanker was explained, he has slinked off very quietly for meditation :)
Nooit, he's babelaas, been awol celebrating Russia's 80 year olde WW2 victory.
"Hooker did nothing of note and that’s a fact."
DDA can go learn from Hooker about chasing play.
Hooker si a player suitable on the wing - as a 12 he si not physical enough and even worse than Esterhuizen. He may be tried at 12 against the Barbarians and the weaker teams the Springboks will play against in July - but I pesonmally think that Willemse will be the inside center in those matches, In any event Hooker was not used regularly by the Sharks this year at 12 and played at wing . Chasing players playing at wing is normal at center not so. Hooker has no test experience and I would like to see him playing on test level before deciding on him as a test player, I think he is potentially a good player n franchise level - but many players are good on that level and not so on test level.
By the way I expected a personal attack on me about my comments on Esterhuizen's performace yesterday and expected you to come up with reasons countering what I said about the issue, .So nothing came - so please confirm you agree with me on that one.
No Mike, nobody agrees with you about Esterhuizen.
So I confirm nothing other than Andre went to flank because there were juries in the forwards. It had othing to do with how he was playing.
Rhis week alone you accused AE of messing up a promising attack against England, you were wrong - se the video we posted. Then you also said he was moved to flank last night because he was playing badly...also completely wrong - also literally anybody and they'll tell you.
You are spreading that BS you like talking about.
It’s not that you expected attacks Oom, it’s that you solicited attacks.
Some stats from the game:
Jac Morgan was immense. 17 tackles, 3 turnovers.
Ethan Hooker matches him at 3 turnovers, while James Venter had most Sharks tackles with 8.
Juju Malema made the most meters at 47 and also beat the most defenders, 6.
Sharks completely dominated territory/possession with 69% / 61%. They beat 35 defenders and only had to make 67 tackles against Ospreys 166. Both teams had poor tackle success, Sharks 71% and Ospreys 77%.
It’s one thing being pathetically childish and spending your life attacking our young players but when you resort to lies about certain passages of play then what’s the point of debating rugby
So we have Moffie telling me JJ beat no defenders on his break but worse than that he showed no pace and was caught by a flank - all fucking pathetic childish lies
First off he beats Kasende the wing with a lovely in out speeds through the gap and steps into the cover defence by the reserve player
Those are the facts and Stransky is spot on with his oh boy Julius has some serious pace - he does off the mark, it’s a huge strength of his. There are going to be many opportunities he will exploit over his career with that explosive pace off the mark. You can’t beat explosive pace off the mark to exploit a bit of space
What I also enjoyed witnessing with JJ was his strength - he put in a few good dominant hits
It was not a game for the outside backs but JJ and Hooker did what they could with little ball
Oh so JJ had the most metres gained and most defenders beating - all 6 of them - yeah he is really shit!!!!
Jenkins was the best player on the day, followed by Hooker, Esterhuizen and Vincent Tsituka
This spreading BS supreme on Esthuizen and is really impossible to believe. If Esterhuizen was any good at center and the backline operasational - why not move the replacement backline player to 7 whre he would have been better than Esterhuzen who did f-all at 7, When Esterhuizen was replaced becuse he was useless at 7 his replacment was betteer than Esterhuizen in the last ten minutes of the game..
So let me sua, roze - in the first 33 minutes of the game Esterhuizen did zero positive n the match - he tried to run wih the bal tewice and was tackledd behind the gain line by an opposing player, Mozart claimed Esterhusizen carried the ball 35 meters - which in fac a nearer to 10 meters than to 35 meters and wa aught from behind be a loosie. Amazing since acocording the oher village idiots he ahs such tremendous pace,
Pakie
The problem is that Estehuizen in that Pom Game tried a t his medocre base rn around he baclk pf the the springbok wing and ended up at his pace being isolated totally without any Sprigbok there to protect the ball - if he was tackled legally the the English would have taken the ball at te breakdown with ease because none of the Sringboks expected him to be as idiotic in carrying the ball as he was. If he kept the attack going in the end the English team would probably have been forced into conmceeding a penalty - but the dimwit went stupid and destroye any chance of the Springboks winning the match.
I am still sure he reason why Estrhuizen did not make the Sprngbok WC squad in 2019 was because of that idiotic move, He is als known or not scoring tries in tests he played for the Spring bok because of lack of reading te flow of the game and nver was where the action really was.
I will lay a R100 bet with you Pakie and that is that Esterhuizen will not play for the Springboks in any tests this year,
I'm sure ou Maaik is just joking. Who wouldn't rate the great Andre Esterhuizen?
Can't wait to see him in the green and gold again!
JJ was tackled from behind by a flank ….and I never said he broke no tackles. Read it again. If you need help, let me know Dave. By the way where did you get the stats?
For ease of reference here’s what I wrote…every word true:
Ah yes the break….he gets the ball in an overlap situation and a would be tackler peels off to the outside. Accelerating he makes about 25 meters without beating a tackle, eventually beats the fullbacks tackle and is brought down from behind by replacement flanker Harri Deaves.
Stats here. Pretty basic but at least it's something. Can dig down into match highlights or tournament numbers.
Yes he stepped to the right after beating Kasende , he effectively stepped into the cover defence coming from his right, he was engaged with those on his left.
He had little to work with - but it was a nice step to beat the defender and then accelerated quickly (hence Stransky’s call) past before meeting defenders on his left and the cover that he stepped into on the right
Pakie quoted the stats - I just repeated them
The first possible tackler pealed off to the left…..he made no attempt to tackle. You don’t beat a tackle when it’s not attempted…same thing for biting on a dummy pass. There was an overlap.
As for stepping into the cover defense, yes he stepped to the right…not a Kolbe step, the fullback still hit him head on. Almost simultaneously the flank got him from behind.
The gas thing is nonsense. The number 14 wing who pulled out of the tackle to cover the 2 man overlap, was literally running backwards at one point, but still had enough gas to turn around and get onto Julius’ left side.
Julius did everything he could….but to suggest it showed unusual gas is just not true.
Thanks for the reference Pakie, not as detailed as we used to get from ESPN, but as you say, at least something.
It’s astonishing that all the numbers are available but there’s simply no way to access them.
Dave, you're just gonna have to accept that, at minimum, JJ needs much more time than you thought.
Here's some very basic logic for you.
JJ does have a step. Not the greatest, but he does have one. Hooker is the bigger man, by about inches and 15-20kgs.
Why do you think Hooker is being played on the wing and JJ at 13?
JJ simply doesn't have the pace for wing. Hooker does. It's that simple.
If JJ was quicker than Hooker, then Hooker would be in midfield and JJ on the wing.
And there in lay the problem for your man. 13 is the only position he can play. Now Hooker, who you apparently need to see more off can play winger, 12, 13 and very likely 15 too.
I know which one if the two I'm brining into the Bok fold if I were Rassie. And I know which one still has a hell of a lot to do to convince me that he belongs.
Wow Plum you really are rugby ignorant - so you think Hooker is on the wing ahead of JJ because he is bigger and faster?
Here is a little rugby lesson for you - JJ is at 13 as he is the better, more skilled player. You need better rugby skills to play 13 than you do wing, it’s that simple and Plumtree knows it.
There is no way in hell Hooker is quicker than JJ - JJ would leave him standing especially over the first 20m
JJ played wing for the Baby Boks in 2023, his first year out of school
So he is 15-20kg heavier - are you stupid? So JJ is 96kg and Hooker is 100kg so how the hell do you get a difference of 15kg plus huh?
Hooker is taller, so what
Hooker is a trundler, JJ glides
JJ has X factor, Hooker does not - he has heart and gets stuck in, I like that about him but I want to see more, I want to see special - solid is boring - he is another Esterhuizen or de Allende
We need creativity, some razzle dazzle at 12 - it’s why Willemse is the perfect choice for Bok 12 as he showed for the Stormers on the weekend
I want to see a Bok side filled with razzle dazzle - Fassi, Arendse, Kolbe, Edwil vd Merwe, Green, Horn, JJ, Willemse, Sacha, Libbok, Williams, vd Bergh, Nohamba, Hanekom and Roos - with some big beef to add the grunt
