Six nations and SA URC matches, spoiled for choice or waste of time

So we have the 6 nations that just started last weekend and it will be another 6 weeks before it concludes.

The BBC and many other rugby sites will make out that this is the best cup comp after the rugby World Cup. Then they would argue that the Lions is the most important tour to ever existed.

As and SA fan, can't really say that the 6 nations every got me interested. Just this past weekend there was no contest at all. Watching France vs Wales was like watching baby seal clubbing, if that was a spectator sport.

Then, don't get me started with Ire vs Eng. The first 40 min were tight, but full of errors and then England imploded after some poor ref calls going in favour of the Irish.

Scot vs Italy was interesting to watch, but the Scots blew Italy off the field in the first 20 min and then it was just process rugby as Italy tried to get back into the comp.

Then, we have the Championship and to be honest, even though Australia has slipped a lot, there is still decent contest amongst these 4 teams. Argentina is finally in the winner circle and have not backed up their wins in New Zealand, the beat Australia and SA. Will they ever win the comp, probably doubtful, but if you look at what we witnessed in the 6 nations. Only France and Ireland are actually real contenders.

Then it brings me to the SA derbies, we are still deep into our summer after wrapping up our now Boxing Day games. I for one have absolutely no interest watching our players, without boks bash each other with boring rugby.

For me, now it is the time to give SA teams an 8 week break while the 6 nations rolls over. Allow the boys to take a month off, get them back into training for 4 weeks and all of our boks will get rested too.

If the big games are now on Christmas, let's use that slot.

I would also say SA teams should start at the beginning of September. That would mean that our guys would get a nice break.

Not much we can do with Euro cup though

When you have this much rugby, quality suffers. You get too much of something, you stop caring. We'll probably see more injuries to key players as well before the test season starts.
