The Sacha Fassi axis

I'm gonna say it now...

The rugby world needs to be extremely weary of these two combining for the Boks.

Sacha has to be one of the most dangerous players in the world right now and Fassi was just getting his form back at the end of the URC.

And when you add Hooker and Williams to that mix...

Is it only me that sees frightening times ahead for our opposition?

I'm so here for it!!!

Jun 26, 2025, 19:49

Williams for sure - Hooker not in that category

Willemse, Arendse, Kolbe and Moodie are, as is Libbok and vd Bergh

Don’t get me wrong I rate Hooker but he is more the solid, dependable type not the X factor player the others are

Jun 26, 2025, 22:39

Only, Hooker scored more Xfactor type tries and made more Xfactor type plays than JJ or any other 13 in SA this year.

Jun 26, 2025, 22:43

Bullshit - JJ has far more X factor without any doubt

Hooker could not have done that at 13 as he played 95% of his rugby on the wing

I’d put good money on the fact that JJ is going to be more of a Bok star than Hooker will and I rate Hooker highly especially after he showed me some touches other than solid

This is what I want to see in the future

15 Fassi 14 Moodie 13 JJ 12 Willemse 11 Arendse 10 Sacha 9 Williams

Bench vd Bergh / Libbok / Hooker/ David Kriel / Green / Henco v Wyk / Jordan Hendrikse

Jun 27, 2025, 09:42

Translation; Hooker was played out of position and still showed more "X Factor" than JJ.

Dave, saying "you'll see" is the way drunk uncles try to win arguments. Normal people use facts. The facts are that JJ showed little to nothing and Hooker/Sacha are the finds of the season.

And the genius agrees because else he'd have selected JJ to play some of the season openers.

We'll be lucky to see JJ feature this year, or next year. And if that's the case then we won't see him until after the WC.

Again, we told you were overestimating him and that Hooker was outshining him by far...and the selections by Brown/Rassie are evidence of the fact that the Bok coaches see what we see and not what you see.

So you can say "you'll see" but that's just a face saving exercise.

Jun 27, 2025, 09:51

Manie has failed. And Dobson refused to play him at 15, preferring the brain fart machine Galant at 15.

And you can't blame Dobson because it's Manie's kicking that makes him non-viable at 10...but he's also a defensive liability and so even if Galant can singlehandedly lose you games, at least he can tackle. So it's hard to justify shifting Manie to 15 too.

Manie should probably re-invent himself as a 9.

Jun 27, 2025, 10:02

You’ll see is there because neither have played any test match rugby yet hellooooooooFact is that in this past season JJ showed me more X factor than Hooker - Hooker showed solid for most of the season not special r

Hooker is another de Allende, Jessie Kriel or Esterhuizen - JJ is another Willemse, Fassi, Sacha

I don’t care what Rassie has seen, hell he has picked bog ordinary Fouche as a tighthead option and left out Ruben v Heerden and David Kriel - which tells me all I need to know about Rassie and selections

Fuck me he even left Roos out. I like Hooker don’t get me wrong but David Kriel was more deserving of a call up and I much prefer JJ based on what I have observed - JJ has the makings of a Bok great - he oozes class

Watch this space - it’s too early to judge on both - give it a few years and I’m saying JJ will have made more of an impression than solid Hooker

Jun 27, 2025, 10:07

TLDR: You'll see

Jun 27, 2025, 11:02

Manie regardless of his failing has plenty of X factor on attack and that’s what I’m on about

Gelant is another - I’m a huge fan of Gelant

Jun 27, 2025, 11:20

Gelant's flippity floppity dummy dum stuff won't work at test level. It only works 50% of the time at provincial level against weak opposition.

Jun 27, 2025, 11:28

Disagree there is far more to Gelant than that - love him and how he plays the game - for sure he fucks up at times but then so do the likes of Russel, Cooper, Carlos, McKenzie, Elton, Marcus Smith, Willie etc

Jun 27, 2025, 14:16

Galant is literally the problem with the Stormers backline.

The difference between he and Willemse is massive. Willemse has a great eye for a moment. Galant thinks every time he gets the ball he has to do something special.

And that's a trait of weak sporting mind. He's barely good enough for franchise rugby. But we know, Dave, you once said he was Bok potential and so now you can never go back on that because you think it'll make you look weak.

Jun 27, 2025, 17:10

Playing outside Sacha should be a breeze….he demands so much attention that has to free up the players outside him. The only problem is that’s Dud who will get confused by the gaps and look for somebody to tractor into.

Jun 27, 2025, 18:06

I'm hoping Sacha stays injury free and has a massive year.

...and I bet that DDA will never be there to collect from Sacha after a break. DDA can't even keep up with Pollard these days haha

Jun 27, 2025, 18:07

Gelant is good in space, but he can't cope with the pressure of test match rugby with less time and space. In his worst games, he is like Calamity James. Too unreliable for the last line of defence.

He has a good pass and should have played more at outside centre to see if he could master the defensive part of this role.

Jun 27, 2025, 21:09

Plum you are speaking shit re Gelant at the Stormers - the lad is a class act and damn right he is test standard - it’s why he has a few caps to his name

Your problem is that you are too rugby conservative - you prefer the solid types like Hooker or losers like Mostert

Give me those creative types all day Willie, Gelant, Fassi, Arendse, Green, Horn, Kolbe, Edwil, JJ, Am, Willemse, Sacha, Gelant, Williams, Nohamba, vd Bergh

It’s why you prefer Wiese over Roos - solid vs X factor

Jun 27, 2025, 21:16

Plum, Manie is a shoe in at #29 for any international selection.

Jun 27, 2025, 22:29

Stormers derangement syndrome is a thing too.

Jun 28, 2025, 00:18

Draad...Moz is a Stormers supporter, so does he also have Stormers derangement syndrome when he concludes that Manie is a flop and Galant is a walking calamity?

Nobody here is biased against the Stormers.

Jun 28, 2025, 04:14

I played a curtain raiser match on Newlands and could walk to the ground in 5 minutes until my folks bought a ‘better’ house and I had to take the train, which ruined my life.

How could I not be a Stormers supporter.

Jun 28, 2025, 06:53

Plum, it's not only about Gelant and Manie...BTW, although I like some of the things Manie can do on a rugby field, he shouldn't play in any high stake matches...like Carlos Spencer, there's something missing...the BMT is just not there...a pity though...

As for Gelant...no need for him for the Bokke, we've got enougb cover at 15 and he's not nearly where he should be for his age.

Jun 28, 2025, 08:41

Anyway, I know I have zero biased against the Stompies or any of our teams. I just get so annoyed when our sides underperform.

And I do stand by the fact that I think the majority of our coaches simply don't have the intelligence to get the most out of teams.

Jun 28, 2025, 14:58

One can never tire of seeing unbelievable skills.....enjoy.

Jun 29, 2025, 00:30

Sacha looked so sharp today.

There was a moment early in the game where he got the ball from the 9, ran to the line, went slightly lateral, then into the gap and delayed his pass out wide.

It's things like that, which he seems to do naturally that we have been missing at 10 since forever.

He needs to play how he did today. Keep himself fit. There is no need for him to be putting his body on the line all the time.
