It seemed he inherited a team that won the Japan National league 2 seasons in a row.

Alister Coetzee had the ability to make them finish 12 out of 16th in his first season.

Japanese club Canon Eagles confirmed that Allister Coetzee has left his role as head coach. Coetzee was in charge of Canon since 2018 after he was sacked as Springbok head coach. The club also confirmed that Coetzee’s assistant Barend Pieterse has also left.

Meanwhile, nine players will also be leaving the club. Two of those players are South Africans Fred Zeilinga and Rynier Bernardo.

With Coetzee in charge, Canon finished 12th in the 16-team Top League tournament in the 2018/2019 season

According to reports, former Suntory Sungoliath coach Keisuke Sawaki will take over as head coach at the Eagles. The former Japan flyhalf led the Suntory to back to back Top League titles before stepping down following the 2018-19 season.

Coetzee left the Springboks under a cloud in 2018. He reportedly received 1.8 million Rand as a golden handshake of sorts from SARU. That amounts to roughly £106,000 or €120,000 euro.

The settlement comes after a heated saga played out between Coetzee and SARU over recent weeks. A letter which Coetzee sent to SARU was ‘leaked’ and the then Springbok coach accused the union of setting him up to fail and of using underhand tactics to oust him from his position.

Coetzee won just 44 per cent of his matches as Springbok coach.

A quota that once claimed he was a better coach than Rassie Erasmus.

Thanks for the info.   I am not surprised at all.   Coetzee was always useless as a coach and when he was  coach without somebody that could help him he was totally clueless.     When he became coach on his own, without back-up he collapsed - both iro the Stormers  and the Springboks,

I rated him, together with Meyer and De Villiers as the three worst rugby coaches in history of Springbok rugby.   Funny how -

*   De Villiers nowadays is unable to find a school team to coach;

*   Meyer fired by Stade Francais for gross incompetence; and

*   Coetzee fired by Canon Eagles for gross incompetence.

Remember according to Mozart Coetzee was a better option than Erasmus as Springbok Coach and AO claimed that Erasmus is a useless coach and Coetzee was better than Erasmus as a  coach.   Wonder what their comments on this lot would be?

Well blow me down ou sharktwit get something right for a change.

Coetzee is a nice guy but an incompetent coach.

Mike, Meyer won three Super Rugby titles and had it not been for matfiled having a brain explosion in the semi finals against the wee Abs would surely have made the finals and won the rugby world cup.

To put him in a class with Snorre or Coetzee is dead wrong!

He was fired by Stade Fracnais being incompetent - if that be the case how could he be a test level coach?   Meyer had some lower level wins - but he was the worst squad selector ever.  Just look at the 2015 WC squad with 8 unplayable players and you would realize what went wring,

Meyer sent CJ Stander packing, claiming he would never amount to anything special. Stander went on to win many international awards playing for Ireland.

He also told Brussow that he was just too small to make it as a test player. He decided to play a blindisder on the openside ... Louw. The Goats' breakdown has never recovered from this idiocy.

He had an opportunity to bring in an excellent 6 and captain into the mix ... in Jaco Kriel. That too was wasted on this chump.

He couldn't make up his mind who he'd play at 10 ... chopping and changing at every turn ... and ended up going with the useless Morne. We all saw his contribution to the record score against the All Blacks.

He brought the divisive Matfield back from the grave ... who showed his class by rebelling against him.

Let us not forget his love of JJ Engelbrecht at 13.

I can go and on.

Did this wannabe coach get anything right?

At least he held onto his integrity ... right?

Add to the above that Meyer refused to select Lions players - even when the Lions were the strongest team in SA Rugby for the 2015 RWC squad,   He justified his selections on "what he knew about what the selected players were capable of in the past" forgetting when they were capable and not what they did in the recent past insofar as selected players performance were concerned.

Meyer obviously did not understand the playing style of the Lions and did not see how it could be used in his dud plans he thrived in.   He ended up selecting 8 players that was virtually unusable in the 31 players in the WC squad,

In the end he was a terrible disaster in coaching the Springboks, the same he was at Stade Francais,

Yeah yeah ... we know all this.

There really is no need to repeat it over and over and over again, Comrade.
