Who is the greater talent JJ Englebrecht or JJ Julius

My vote goes to Adi Jacob’s….same build as Julius, he used to glide and saw the field much better. And he had the best center start in 2008 Super Rugby. Unless of course you remember the step JJ Englebrecht put on Israel Dagg or was it Owen Franks?

I like JJ of the Julius variant, he just hasn't stepped up yet and has had a lot of silly errors that make me think he's trying too hard and fluffs it a bit.

He reminds me a lot of Paul Jordaan, so much talent, just couldn't get a look in for the Boks.

JJ still has lots of time to come right.

Jan 07, 2026, 17:29

Which was exactly what we told Dawie.

I said he needs a few years...but Dave wasn't having it.

What one can't escape his lack of top end pace.

Moodie appears lanky but has good top end. Hooker is one of our quickest backs. And both of them have bulk with Hooker being a great fighter and Moodie becoming a bone crunching tackler(some of his hits these days are often the most notable hits in a game).

JJ has a lot to prove and the problem he has is that his lack of pace prohibits of from playing anywhere but at 13...while Moodie and Hooker can slot in on the wing and are both becoming excellent high ball takers.

Keep in mind that both Hooker and Moodie are still very young. And then you have Horn at the Lions who never has a bad game either.

At this rate, miracles aside, I'm struggling to see JJ getting into the Boks at all.

And let's also remember that next year is a WC year. So, based on what we've seen this season, JJ won't be featuring in 2026 for the Boks, and this year's side will pretty much be the WC side. So no Bok spot in 2027 for Juju either...

My advice would be that he gets his head down, plays like his life depends on it for the what two years and then perhaps in 2028 he might have a chance.

...or look for a contract overseas.

I also think JJ does have the necessary attributes to step up and be a Bok candidate. It can still happen for him in 2026.

He needs a good, injury free spell and he will be in contention. It’s very sad, but Henco van Wyk is just too injury prone to make an impact at this stage.

AE and JJ have played well together and could be a Bok midfield solution. Moodie does have the inside track for the 13 jersey, though.

He and AE also click well together. Erasmus will most likely take that into account. In my opinion, Willemse needs to play fullback, but we’ll see if Rassie uses him at 12 in 2026.

I think he will most probably go with Allendig again, with AE coming off the bench.

If the WC was in 2026 it would be the old firm of Allende and Kriel that Geraasmus would be picking

Jan 07, 2026, 21:55

My vote goes to Adi Jacobs he was phenomenal

Jan 07, 2026, 22:02

I knew you’d spot a glider Dave…good man.

Jan 07, 2026, 22:05

They never called him revolving door for nothing - players used to glide past him

Jan 07, 2026, 23:56

More of a trap door, Adi hit them and they went down. Great tackling stats in 2008.

Jan 08, 2026, 00:38

He was fucking useless - literally

Up there with Earl Rose, Braam v Straaten, Ross Cronje and a few others as the worst capped players ever

Clones but Adi is a bit taller.

Jan 08, 2026, 11:34

JJ is more talented and 8 kg bigger than wee Adi.

Before getting ahead of ourselves oaks let's see JJ at 13 for the Sharks. He needs an extended run then let's see.

The Sharks need some spark in e center and JJ could provide that.

Will Pead take over scummie for the Sharks.

Can't see why the Sharks can't have a really good backline in the future. Can JP put it all together.

Jan 08, 2026, 11:57

He has had an extended run, Beeno. There were flashes, that's all.

"Will Pead take over scummie for the Sharks."

He's at the Lions...

The Sharks have a very good backline right now. Maybe it's a 10 problem, who knows?

Jan 08, 2026, 17:09

Which backline is really functioning….the Stormers fire when Sacha does his thing. That aside it all seems a little reactive and scatter brained. At the Bok level the rigid game plan prescribes what they have to do and it works because of the forward dominance. If somebody matches us at scrum time, look out below!

We have the players…great athletes. Take the Sharks Williams, Esterhozen, Hooker, Fassi are all superior athletes….but who is the conductor? I sense Esterhozen is stepping into that role but it seems to be affecting his personal play.

That leadership is why Sacha is so crucial and why our teams don’t seem to do well with Williams at 9 even though he a brilliant player

Jan 08, 2026, 21:53

"He has had an extended run, Beeno. There were flashes, that's al."

He's fcn 21!!!

Jan 08, 2026, 21:58

"Which backline is really functioning….the Stormers fire when Sacha does his thing."

He barely played this season...not a huge fan of Jurie Matthee, but he's been more than just adequate...you complain too much...way too much...when last did the Stormers have such an undefeated run?

Jan 08, 2026, 22:04

Yep Draad it’s that fucking pathetic

Jan 08, 2026, 22:46

"Jean de Villiers started playing centre for the Springboks around age 27, with his first recorded match in that position being on November 22, 2008, against Wales, though he had debuted for the Boks earlier in 2002 and played wing before moving primarily to inside centre"

AI answer, can't be right...could have sworn he played 12 in 2007 RWC before getting injured to pave the way for Fransie to have a dream RWC ...

Jan 09, 2026, 05:18

Mozart

Jcobs the first time I saw him play man y years a g o his defense was non-existent. I never thought he weas a good enouch 13 - in fact I always had a very low opinion of him as a player,

There sis one thing I differ gtom you. You claim "that the Stormers fire when Sacha does his thing."

So the Stormers did not fire in the 8 matches they won in a row which they won when Sacha did not play for them in the URC and Champions Cup series, It was clearly not the case in the present seasons matches. Since the Point Differences in the 10 matches played being 136 points.

So what was the real situation - there is a relatively unknown player by the name of Matthee who played at flyhalf in seven of the ten matches played and did extremely well. Matthee claimed he improvced his game by condtantly leaning from Sacha about flyhalf play and other than Sacha he is the best flyhalf playing in te four SA franchises and in fact is the highest rated flyhalf on the URC series.

Example - in his first match for the Stormers this season he played against Leinster he did a Sacha trick on them on the half line and scored a try running from the ten meter line. Goal kcking dd better than Sacha and Pollard,

I doubt it very much if Sacha will play against Harlequins this Sunday in London. Dobson indiated he is going to give Sacha a rest.

"He's fcn 21!!!"

Which is why I "fcn" said he need a good few years.

Jan 09, 2026, 06:57

O "fck" K

I saw this: ""He has had an extended run, Beeno. There were flashes, that's al." and though it meant he had enough time to prove himself.

BTW I'm not huge fan but some players take years to mature and others play like veteran Boks at 21.

Jan 09, 2026, 07:04

Yeah, now go back to Dawie and say the following...

Dawie, he's "fcn" 21 and hasn't shown or proven that he's Bok material yet. Plum "fcn" told you he needs a few more "fcn" years now grow "fcn" up and accept that your "fcn" call was "fcn" premature.

Jan 09, 2026, 07:06

Ja Dave, what Plum said!

Jan 09, 2026, 07:12

Haha!
