On the bench for the Bulls on Saturday

The next big thing. Good to see Jake showing faith in the youngster

JF VAN HEERDEN (Jacob Frederick Nel VAN HEERDEN) is a 19-year-old South African rugby player standing at 2.01 m tall (6 ft 7 in) and weighing in at 115 kg (18 st 1.53 lb; 253.53 lb) , who currently plays for Bulls in South Africa as lock.

Always great to hear that  great young locks are coming through. Will keep an eye out for him. Locks to day need to be as hard as nails and mobile. Etzebeth is the role model..

Need to know how to see a Kiwi pretender off.  :D

He looks heavier than 115kg

The Grey Bloem coach reckons he is the hardest, toughest player he has ever coached

The Bulls are building a formidable pack / team. Brimming with quality youngsters.

Criticize Jake as much as you like, but he has an eye for young talent. Great to have him in SA.

Also saw Jan Hendrik Weasels playing out if his skin in the last 2 games. Low, Hannekom, Gumede (another Shark reject excelling away from the guppies) Then have Nortjé and that pack looks great.

Then you have Kriel, Moodie, Arendse, papier in the back line.

Hope they can hold onto these guys for the next 5 years. Don't forget gobbler still need to make a come back.

Excited for SA rugby

Not to mention Ruan Vermaak their best lock who is 25 then you have Ludwig at lock who looks to start every game now and is only 21 and has certainly muscled up nicely. There is also Janko Swanepoel (24)You have Gerhard Steenkamp and Matanzima as loosehead options both 26. You have Mornay Smith(26) Klopper (24)as tightheads.

In the backs you have Stravino Jacobs, Sebastian de Klerk and vd Linde who are all under 25 and Gans who is 26. Jake is good in one respect but poor in others like not investing in Similane who no doubt will shine at the Stormers

Was this the kid in the scrum cap missing all the tackles…..Mostert would snap him like a twig.

Jan 23, 2024, 23:13

Mostert is a nobody - never won a MOM award, never made a team of the tournament, would never start if Lood was fit

JF v Heerden is going to be as big as Eben has been for the Boks

Even your pin up boy Jake knows that - that’s why he is selecting a 19 year old to play for his side

Was just thinking the other day watching Grobelaar at 5 for the Sharks winning the MOM award that game, how much better an all round player he is than Mostert.

He is better in every respect and both in their 30’s - unfortunately Grobelaar left SA early on but since returning has shown what a class act he is

He is a far far better lock than Mostert as are many - but I was looking at them in terms of age similarity

But the genius Eluckmiss doesn’t believe that….there’s your huckleberry.

Jan 23, 2024, 23:59

Well Rassie prefers Lood to Mostert and that works for me

Lood’s absence was huge, had he been fit it would have been Eben and Lood starting with RG on the bench

There is light at the end of the tunnel though - useless Mostert is 33 so chances are we thankfully won’t see much more of him in a Bok jersey

Lomp’s absence was a gift from the rugby gods, otherwise Eluckmiss may very well have chosen the man who was run over in the 2015 WC semi for a key try, and again by Vunipola in the 2019 final. Hell in 2023 George Smith might have run over him …haha…you sure know how to pick them Dave.

Lood is twice the lock the physically inept Mostert is. Thank goodness Lood is fit again as we know Rassie prefers him over useless Mostert so order will be restored in the second row.

Chances are we won’t see the ineffectual Mostert in the 23 as we all know even including yourself that RG is far far better than Mostert - fingers crossed
