We've been in similar situations with Mr Kolisi. In 2021 he committed two spear tackles. No card. In fact, I don't recall even a penalty. Kolisi has long been used to deflect ref pressure. Since 2021, the Boks have benefited enormously from slanted reffing. I'm not surprised by this. However, it's overshadowed numerous other calls that should have been made but were not. Damian could have been red carded early on. Etzebeth could have been carded. We saw lots of reckless play, tackles around the neck. Offsides. It wasn't good. I wonder how Erasputin would react if he were confronted with all of it. Throw a tantrum? Probably. He lost his cool with Mallett over an honest yet mild remark.

TV pundits here in the UK had it spot on. Players in Cane’s position need to learn not to try effect a dominant hit when they find themselves in a position not to be able to get lower and effect a lawful hit. He should have just held onto Kriel instead of trying to dominate the hit
Yes it wasn't direct. Nothing quite like lowering yourself to the height of the head, whilst looking up and barraging into someone's nose. Neither of those incidents warrant a red. These collisions will continue happening no matter how many cards you deal out, because sometimes they are simply unavoidable. Kolisi is actually wrapping below shoulder level - that's not a high or dangerous tackle by any definition. But now you get head contact because Savea has lowered his stance to brace for impact, and now the tackler suddenly has to get a card, possibly a red. For something that is nothing other than a normal rugby collision where a coincidental fraction of a second positioning of body parts facilitates a brief head contact. It's ridiculous and it is not the way forward.
If you want to go that route then, make any tackle above waist height a penalty and let's just ruin the game completely.

If a player gets a red card, the Law should allow that the send of player can be replaced….this way the integrity of 15 against 15 gets preserved… This is the view point of Freek Burger. Former test referee and Manager of South African Refs…I agree.
The single biggest problem I have with the current system is the enormous difference it makes if you get a red card in the first minute or the last minute.
The only solution is to allow the red-carded player to be replaced after 10 minutes and apply much harsher suspensions or fines to the offender.
Or maybe 20 minutes in the bin, with non-playing bans on players based on the number of red cards they get and how severe the offence is. (E.g. 1 red card is a 3-match ban).
A fine would perhaps just be paid by the rugby organisation - whereas the ban punishes the player first, and their employers second.
So the red card makes an ‘enormous difference’ if you get it in the first minute. So be extension it makes considerable difference if given before the half. Ten points difference according to the statistics.

I have always been in favour of a player that has been Red carded to be replaced after a period in the "Bin".
Red cards in rugby have resulted in many unfair calls and results and will continue until some laws are recalled or changed.
Hats off to the Boks for winning as well as to the AB's for putting up a tremendous 14 effort.
