A Scrapy Win by the Boks

The Boks seem to have a game plan which is to keep the score close in the first half and then use the bomb squad to dominate the final 25 minutes of a match.
Rassie will bring the bomb squad on later if the score is still close, and sooner if the losing points difference is higher

The plan is working, but the Boks still look beatable if a team can put enough points on them in the first half.

While some of the Boks are better as impact players (e.g. Kwagga), the forwards just seem to play better as a unit after the bomb squad gets on.

The rucks and lineout are key concerns, along with the ability to get the wings into the game with passes down the backline, instead of just kick passes or chips

Having Kwagga and Marx in the second half improves the ruck with quicker ball retention and more turnovers or slowing the opposition ball down. The All Blacks easily retained possession in the first half with many ruck phases.

The lineout was a shambles in the first half. Bongi was missing his jumpers, but Marx brought stability in the 2nd half. Even when Marx is throwing badly, it is only some of his throws. When Bongi has a bad day at the lineout, he can't hit a barn door.

The Boks seemed to revert back to the pre-Tony Brown era when Pollard was on the pitch. However, things immediately looked more promising once Sasha got onto the pitch- but the wings were not getting many chances in space.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen both teams make so many errors before.

Nonsense. It was a brilliant game of rugby and I've rarely seen fewer errors in a test match. Tell me the period when there were a lot of errors/penalties? By the Springboks or All Blacks?

Strangely I didn't feel like the outcome was in doubt at any stage in the second half. Apart from one or two decent attacks, the All Blacks just didn't look they could get anything together to bother the Boks with. We looked the stronger team, less stressed, the more likely to score, the less threatened by whatever the opposition offered. Never thought I'd say that when the opposition is the All Blacks, but there you go.

I thought both teams played better last week. The Boks did look better once Sasha got onto the field

I have a problem with Wiese - he s a penalty machine and ended u[p with a yellow card as well.   The other problem wss miistakes by both teams when it came  to breakdowns.

Very intense but not a great match.
