As the All Blacks close another season that fell short of their legendary standards, head coach Scott Robertson faces a rigorous evaluation of his tenure and strategy. Following a series of disappointing outcomes, including failure to secure the Rugby Championship and a loss to England, the scrutiny is intensifying. With the review set for January end, Robertson's future and that of his coaching team hang in the balance.

New Zealand Rugby conducts its thorough reviews post-season, engaging with players and coaches to gather comprehensive feedback. "People are gathering it, they gather it, but in the new year that is when all the information is disseminated out," Robertson explained. The review extends to all facets of the team's operations, both on and off the field, ensuring every aspect is scrutinized.

"It’s pretty much an interrogation, right from the top to the bottom. It’s a great tool for us to get feedback as coaches and the whole group, from the players and all the management," said Robertson.

Despite the team's struggles, Robertson remains optimistic about the depth and competition within the squad, particularly noting the challenges and opportunities created by injuries. "There’s some really good competition in the squad, there’s a lot of depth in our squad. This year we had the most injuries we’ve ever had as an All Blacks squad, so it did create opportunities for other players," he noted. The upcoming Super Rugby competition is seen as a critical platform for emerging players to claim a spot in the national team.

The outcomes of January's review will be pivotal as they prepare for the 2026 season, with all feedback expected to be fully processed during their usual All Blacks camp. This annual introspection is crucial for recalibrating and setting new objectives, ensuring the All Blacks remain at the forefront of international rugby.
