In a dramatic showdown in Cordoba, the All Blacks dashed Argentina's hopes of clinching their first-ever home victory in the Rugby Championship opener, overpowering the Pumas 41-24. Despite a spirited second-half comeback by the hosts, New Zealand's robust gameplay and a late double from Samisoni Taukei’aho sealed the deal.

The match kicked off with the All Blacks asserting their dominance early, thanks to a penalty by Beauden Barrett, who recovered swiftly from an early foul by Santiago Chocobares. Argentina's response, a kick by Tomás Albornoz, ricocheted off the uprights, missing the chance to equalize. The visitors capitalized on this with Sevu Reece scoring the first try, which Barrett deftly converted.

Argentina momentarily found their rhythm, narrowing the gap to 10-7 after Rodrigo Isgro touched down, but their joy was short-lived. New Zealand widened the gap with a scorching run from Will Jordan setting up Cortez Ratima, and later, a maul pushed Ardie Savea over the line. By halftime, the All Blacks were comfortably ahead at 31-10.

The Pumas, reinvigorated after the break, cut the deficit with a dazzling solo try from Albornoz and another by Joaquin Oviedo. The scoreline tightened to 31-24, igniting hopes of an upset. However, Taukei’aho's brace in the maul quashed any comeback dreams for Argentina.

"We knew we had to be clinical to come away with a win here. Proud of how the boys stuck to the game plan,"

stated Scott Robertson, New Zealand's coach, reflecting on the match's intensity and the challenge posed by the Pumas.

The game wasn't without its tensions, highlighted by a scuffle involving Anton Lienert-Brown, who received a yellow card late in the game. Nevertheless, the All Blacks remained focused and disciplined, ensuring they walked off the field victorious, setting the stage confidently for their next encounter in Buenos Aires.

Despite the loss, Argentina showed flashes of brilliance and resilience, signaling their potential threat in the championship. However, their inability to maintain consistency against the seasoned All Blacks was evident. New Zealand's ability to exploit errors and execute under pressure underscored their rugby prowess and left a strong impression as they moved forward in the tournament.
