While I have definitely warned to Wiese as he is a physical freak along the lines of the du Preez twins I still prefer Roos, although since his return from injury he has been at best solid.

I just prefer the all round skills of Roos and he provides more than enough physicality. But saying that I am more than happy with Wiese at 8, as long as Roos makes the WC squad ahead of past it Vermeulen

With reference to Rassie’s side above, the only real challenges to the 15 I’ve selected is Arendse on the wing, Willemse involved either at 15 or 12, Ox and Mbonambi starting to please the colour equation and Lood at 5.

Saying that Ox and Mbonambi are damn fine players and would not weaken the side

If that is the starting side then Ox, Mbonambi, Lood and Willemse are definites for the bench

Vermeulen will be on the plane. I read that he may be the defence coach and may even retire after the world cup and continue in some coaching capacity in the team. He might not be starting player at the world cup, if his form for the Boks is not good this year

Some selections are’nt all about rugby and we as observers don’t quite get that, we want to see the best 33 players selected

Reality dictates that some players add more value than just ability - a prime example being Mostert, his durability, heart and energy sees him find favour ahead of better rugby players

He is the kind of player the coach wants in the trenches with him, he has his teammates backs, he has a positive influence on the squad dynamics - all aspects fans are not privy to

We don’t know the players on a personal level and therefore want to see selections based on playing ability alone

I think it is a dam shame that Marcel Coetzee is not in the mix. He got stuffed around last year and decided to go earn a pay packet in Japan for half a season. Probably not the best move as he could have done it next year. But the guy has plus 30 test matches, can play every position in the back row. Great off load, fantastic on the ground and rock solid defender. He also has some size on home over that of Kwagga that barely holds his own. Kwagga has speed and guts. 

As for Oupa Fourie, the guy is all heart. Plays every game like it's his last.

I think Vermeulen will be on the plan as he is Rassie real captain as well as the boks defence marshal.

Not sure either Vermeulen or Fourie should be in the squad.

I would far rather have Roos and Coetzee. 

Also agree that the likes of the deysal twins would be great for add physicallity  

Yeah there are a number of quality players that have missed the boat in terms of Bok investment - all would have added value to the Boks

The creatine twins do not have what it takes to play at test level. They lack the mongrel of Weise or the brain of Vermeulen. 

Neither of 'em possess the all-round skills & nous of the venerable Mostert.

Willemse was part of the failed Bok attack last season. Lots of handling errors and poor passing, lateral running and general poor play. He made Am look average. This was all against exceedingly poor defending. 

Coetzee was never good on the ground. He lacks punch. He always did. He has had some seasons of solid defending. Kwagga is far stronger, better skilled and with the capacity to overturn opposition momentum! Only Brussow has had that ability in the pro era for the Boks. Kwagga is the most important Bok. One of the few who in the Erasputin selected team who offered real physicality. We have a powder puff presence on the gainline and a soft defence, we cannot omit Kwagga.

Dan du Preez would instantly upgrade Steph. Wiese, Dan, Kwagga. That'll be our first world class loose trio in many years.

It's not the best combination we could field, but it's lightyears ahead of what we've had to suffer through. 

Actually Plum I think it’s potentially our best combination….but Roos has to produce this weekend. So far he has been anonymous since his injury.

If Kolisi isn’t available we can finally choose a balanced loosie combination. 

I haven't seen anything remotely great about Roos for the Boks. He was absolutely monstered by the Welsh, and he looked average in one of the worst English performances ever. He wasn't great against Italy. He could very well follow the path of Thor, who was very disappointing in 2012, but it's not likely. I'm not convinced yet. But, if he is going to be feature in the WC, he needs to start every test. Hopefully, he can make it. It's been quite depressing watching the loose trio these past few years. 

Everyone is over eager to see Roos perform for the Bokke...Roos included...he should just relax and focus on the game and he should be fine...too much talent not to be...when he's playing for the Bokke, he's like a test batsman on 99 not out before his first century...messes with his mind...he just needs time to settle the butterflies...expectations getting the better of him ATM, but he'll get there.

You might be right, but the best Boks, the successful Boks, show early. Wiese was thrown into a Lions series on debut, and was one of the best Boks. In fact, he was the pick of the fowards, alongside Kwagga. Thor had a slow start, but that was only in his first season in 2012. He had a massive 2013. I can't think of many good Boks who needed more than a season to show their worth. In fact, I cannot think of any. I can scarcely put together a list of 5 names of slow starters who went on to be successful. This will be a definitive season for Roos if he gets selected for more than one or two showings. He has got to show more. The one big test from last year was one in which the Welsh effortlessly handled him physically. The few highlights I have seen have all shown very fractured defences, and him not being the key player in any breakout. All these things considered, I am being very cautious. My instinct tells me that he is not the player he is being made out to be. I hope I'm wrong. 

Crap PSDT has to be at 7

Best 7 in the game when in form and by all accounts has been on fire in Japan

If Kolisi is not fit, Kwagga it is at 6

PTSD is about 20th in SH rugby, at 7. That's consistent with his output throughout 2019. Your loose trio includes two proven flatliners and a big gamble.

Kwagga is immensely strong, and rugged. We don't need to have him on the bench. He is our only game changer. He gives the Boks an edge. 

I want two fetchers off the bench so Marx and Kwagga fill that roll. If it's tight I want a breakdown penalty either in front of our post or theirs. If we can get turnover ball and allow Roos broken unaligned defense to run at, he'll make yards.

His ball carrying at test level that year was slightly lower than his super rugby output. He was ranked as the 17th best flank in super rugby that year. I'm not posting popularity polls, or fan made all star XVs, I'm merely giving you the plain facts. We can review any Steph game, aside from the Aussie home test of 2018 and the Twickenham test that same year, and we will see that all of the things are evident. Tangibles. We were losing against the Lions. Then Duhan tossed Dud Toit like a matchstick and from the second he departed the Boks started winning.

Dud Toit has played in 34 tests where the Boks won….28 where we lost. That’s a 55% win ratio….way below the Bok average. How can this man possibly be our best 7 when we play far better without him.

Take out the WC and it’s an almost 50/50 ratio.

By contrast Etzebeth is 66 and 39…over the same time period….a win ratio of 63%. Achieved despite the flattering WC period forming  a smaller part of his larger test list.

Dud is simply not associated with Bok success. And now as a small aging lock with no recognizable skills apart from the pick and go, he is even less likely to be relevant. We are now almost 4 years since the WC and Dud has literally done nothing to further the Bok cause. But he is still viewed as an automatic Bok by those who drink the Kool Aid.

Du Toit is not the player he used to be …even Mostert out performed him last season….he might be picking up some form in Japan and if that can be transferred to his Bok Form, we will have to wait and see.
