Yes, we were a man down at this point, but it's still a brilliant piece of work. Hope Tony Brown is taking notes.

Breakdown middle of the field. Argentina shifts left with 10 players - notice the depth. #5 receives from #9. He will fix Ox, the prop running a dummy/shield line on his outside and the second prop lying deeper also set to run a second dummy/shield into the center (yellow lines). Everything here is aiming at drawing the Boks into the blue circle to leave space on the outside. Short passes, direct running at the defense.

As #12 completes the drawing and passes to #15, #14 is running a support line on #15's inside shoulder, meaning Kriel circled in green cannot just drift outside in anticipation of a pass in that direction. Pollard shoots out of line to try and smother the move, but #15 simply steps inside him and releases #11 outside. Notice Matera ever hovering wide on the touchline.

#11 now has about 10m of width to beat the advancing Reinach, who finds himself in no man's land and not too surprisingly fails to tackle the slippery wing. From here it's a simple draw on the last defender and pass to Matera outside for the score.

When looking at the jersey numbers of playes - hee was only Reinach and Pollard in n mans land and 11 mles arway from the action.   In other wods what ahppened o he rst f the Springbk backlie in that case?   Granted Arendse was yellow-carded .- but where was he ret of the abckline players?

Th main culrpits were the centers and the full back?

No, the full back had nothing to do with it nor did the centers. Fassi was where he should have been, so was Kriel and Am was at the other end of the field with Mapimpi because someone still had to watch that area. Fassi ended up with an overlap on him, so all he could do was cover the ball carrier, who simply passed to the open man. You may call Pollard a culprit for the missed tackle and shooting out of line, but in the end we were simply bamboozled by a smart and skillfully executed move. The man down didn't help us, but the execution on the Argie side still needed to be spot on, which it was.
