Augustus Groot vs Roose (I smell quota)

I wonder why all of a sudden Augustus has made the team. He has been in the wilderness for some time now and only recently showed up on Rassie radar despite being IRB Junior player of the year. He never managed to reach that height or hype that he got. He is not the tallest nor the fastest, Just carry a lot of bulk. he often looks like he runs out of energy and I question his work rate.

Then you have the explosive power of Roos. Not in the mould of a Wiese or a Vermeulen that has pure power but what he lack in torque he makes up with his pace and exceptional timed line breaks, which is very rare. He has been around now for a few seasons and is looking to get back into top form.

I can only sense that Roos is the victim of the bok quota policy and Rassie has to make sure he hits those numbers. If you look at his pack. He is running thin on melanin in his front row with only Ox. They you have quotalisy who is coming to the end of his career and this guy is getting more annoying then anything else. Did you watch him on YouTube during sharks training. The guy is a constant attention seeker. Then Bongi is not long and neither is Trevvaaa. So it leaves Rassie really light in the bok back of who he can choose. So he has opted to bring a Tsituka in, but for me their forms have dropped since joing the Saarks and nowhere as good.

I do believe it is the dark patches that Rassie is looking for and clearly a quota selection despite Augustus Groot ceiling being the premiership

Juarno Augustus has been in the wilderness?

Tell that to Northampton Saints!

I like Evan Roos but Trokkie fully deserves this call up. If you think it's just race based then you haven't been watching a lot of Champions Cup or Premiership rugby.

King, Augustus has been a beast, perhaps even the best 8 in Europe this season.

Not sure if you've been watching but i caught a few games and he's been very effective.

Augustus and Roos deserve to be in the alignment camp

May 16, 2025, 16:22

Trokkie pipped Roos...tis that simple.

Rassie started seriously looking around the moment Wiese got injured, and the two 8s that stood out the most were Augustus and Hanekom.

And you can say what you like but Roos pre injury was in far better form than the post injury Roos. He's actually had a relatively quiet season, for him. Even at half mast he's still involved more than a lot of players. Had he recaptured some of his earlier form, i think he'd have made the cut.

Augustus is injured at the moment.

May 17, 2025, 00:21

Oh fuck off has Augustus pipped Roos - they have both attended an alignment camp this season. It’s not a test match selection

As for Roos being better pre injury are you fucking delusional?

Right now Roos is in great form

Roos has not made the alignment camp, guess what nor has your crush Ruan Venter - not to mention Hartzenberg, Sebastian de Klerk, JJ, Henco v Wyk, David Kriel, Masuku, Paul de Wet, Papier, Jantjies, Aker, Dweba, Grobelaar, AH Venter, JF v Heerden, Buthelezi, Gumede, Dan du Preez, Ludwig and Francke Horn who all made the previous alignment camps

You are so fucking rugby ignorant

May 17, 2025, 06:35

If you read the match threads I noted that Ruan wasn't playing well and was also being used incorrectly.

I'm not at all surprised he wasn't selected.

See, easy.

I never said Roos hasn't been good. I said he hasn't been as good as we was last year and the year before.

How about, you fuck off?

May 17, 2025, 06:37

The since if the players invited has been whittled down, Dawie...quite normal.

May 17, 2025, 12:39

No you dumbfuck it’s an alignment camp not a Bok squad - wake the fuck up

May 18, 2025, 11:38

So maybe Transformation and the numbers, is the third reason why Roos has been left out.

Daddy please, Trokkie trumped him, Political or the fourth reason that a alignment Camp is there to align the possible new players with the Bok way and not the final squad.

That can mean that Roos is already picked in the final group ??

What do you think Dave?

Look, I think the alignment camp is good as it keeps fringe players in the loop even though many of us don't agree that some players should be near the bok setup. Especially somebody like Marvin Orie. But, knowing Rassie, he likes to cast his net wide. Our depth has definitely improved and we are in a very good place. To think that the same players like Libbok 6 or 7 years ago wouldn't even get a sniff.

Also, watch Rassies podcast and listen to the man. He values team unity and culture over anything else. He speaks openly that a player can be amazing on the pitch and do things other players can't but if they are not good for the team and he is happy to cut them form the environment. Maybe why Marcel Coetzee doesn't fit even though he is better than Fourie, as he can cover all back row positions and would have been ideal Francious Louw replacement, but for some reason he doesn't fit into the team vibe.

I think Roos has fallen into the same trap. Maybe he just doesn't gel with the guys. Maybe he is carrying baggage having to be put behind the likes of Pepsi at the sharks even we all know he is the better player. Remember the fall out between Quinton Davids and Geo Cronje. We forget that Rassie was a player two and went through all of the transformation BS, but I think Rassie is a bit Rose tinted at the moment and almost negative towards Afrikaner christian boys. He knows that he has to devalue them in order to keep his position at Saru. That is probably why we haven't seen the creatine twins.

I can't blame the guy, I don't think we play the best rugby but it is very effective. It is very restrictive game he plays but this is the only way to coach team with so many different backgrounds. We will never be a New Zealand that is super slick, but we are getting so much better than what we before. I'm super excited about our backline talent at the moment. Hopefully Rassie can keep us one step ahead of the rest
