As the curtain prepares to fall on the regular sevens season, Blitzboks captain Impi Visser is all geared up for a monumental showdown in New York. The Springbok Sevens squad, laser-focused on their goal, has been steadfast in their ambition to dominate the top tiers of the SVNS series. Now, as they head into the final tournament held at the Sports Illustrated Stadium, they face a nail-biting tie at the summit of the standings with Fiji—both teams separated merely by points difference. This weekend's performance will crown the series champion.

“We wanted to be in this position when we came together as a group and now we are, so the final hurdle is ours to conquer,” shared Visser, who is set to mark his 50th World Series event, joining the elite league of Springbok Sevens players to reach this milestone.

“I did not overthink that, to be honest, as there are more important things on this trip, but yes, as it approaches, I do appreciate the occasion with gratitude,”

Visser remarked. He acknowledged the significance of his achievement, emphasizing the honor of emulating the greats of the game and cherishing every moment in the green and gold.

With three tournament victories under their belt this season, the Blitzboks are not strangers to the winner's podium, having triumphed in Cape Town, Perth, and Vancouver. They are now poised to claim their first title in New York and, with it, the overall series. The upcoming World Championship looms on the horizon, with events scheduled in Hong Kong, Valladolid, and Bordeaux, where the Blitzboks will defend their last year's championship title won in Los Angeles.

As the team readies for their pool matches against formidable opponents—New Zealand, France, and Australia—Visser is confident about their preparations.

“It is all about regroup and refocus and get ready to get the job done,”

he stated. “We are in a good space, we trained well and I think our recovery was good. So now for the final push, but everyone is ready for this, I believe.”

The Blitzboks squad for New York includes Ryan Oosthuizen, Impi Visser (captain), Ronald Brown, Selvyn Davids, Dewald Human, Siviwe Soyizwapi, Donavan Don, Sebastiaan Jobb, David Brits, Tristan Leyds, Grant de Jager, Jayden Nel, and Gino Cupido.
