As the sands of Dubai heat up, so does the anticipation for the Blitzboks, who are gearing up to launch the new SVNS season with what could only be described as a Herculean task. With the rugby sevens scene buzzing, head coach Philip Snyman, alongside stalwarts Impi Visser and Ryan Oosthuizen, is brimming with confidence, having landed in UAE ready to tackle the challenges of the restructured series.

Philip Snyman, no stranger to Dubai’s pressures with eight campaigns under his belt, is not just optimistic but realistic about the challenges ahead. "I am very happy with our preparations," he proclaimed, reflecting on a robust pre-season and productive scrimmages against Great Britain. "Our confidence is good, but this new format is a different beast. You have to be on top of your game in every encounter – that’s the reality when the quality of your opposition is this high."

"We could not have asked for a tougher start."

The Blitzboks are not just talking tough; they've been thrown into the deep end from the get-go. The team faces a gauntlet in Pool A with matches against Olympic champions France, sevens stalwarts Fiji, and the reigning SVNS league champions Argentina. These encounters aren't just games; they are battles that could define the season early on.

Despite boasting the most seasoned squad in Dubai, Snyman is well aware that past achievements will be of little comfort once the games begin. With an eye on the immediate future, he admits, "If we hit the ground running here and do well, we take huge momentum into Cape Town." Yet, he quickly refocused on the present, "But first, we have to deal with France."

The Blitzboks' lineup reads like a who's who of sevens rugby, featuring Christie Grobbelaar, Ryan Oosthuizen, captain Impi Visser, Zain Davids, Ricardo Duarttee, Ronald Brown, Selvyn Davids, Shilton van Wyk, Mfundo Ndhlovu, Donavan Don, David Brits, Zander Reynders, and Tristan Leyds. They're set for a showdown with the best, starting with France at 11:32 am, followed by Fiji at 2:16 pm, and wrapping up against Argentina at 6:34 pm.

With such a lineup and a battle-hardened coach at the helm, the Blitzboks' journey in Dubai promises to be nothing short of epic. Buckle up, rugby fans; it's going to be a thrilling ride!
