This Saturday at Ellis Park, prepare for an explosive showdown as Boan Venter, soon to be a Lion, clashes with his future teammates when Edinburgh takes on the Lions in the Vodacom URC. Venter, set to switch sides next season, will undoubtedly be looking to make a massive statement against the very team he'll soon join.

The Lions are bracing for an intense confrontation, particularly in the scrums, a segment of the game they are desperate to dominate. Lions coach Ivan van Rooyen pinpointed the scrum battle as crucial, especially with the return of Asenathi Ntlabakanye, bolstering their front row. "We definitely feel we need to be more consistent in that (scrums)," Van Rooyen expressed.

"Boan has done really well over the past year. For Edinburgh and the Boks. I think he will want to prove a point on Saturday before he joins us next season."

The stage is set for a riveting face-off between two Springbok props, both Venter and Ntlabakanye, who debuted in Test rugby last year. Their head-to-head will be a critical factor in determining the outcome of what promises to be a fiercely contested scrum battle.

The Lions, fresh from a victory in their last home derby against the Stormers, are keen to rectify the scrum vulnerabilities exposed in that match. With a series of four home games lined up against Edinburgh, Dragons, Glasgow, and Connacht, followed by away games against powerhouses Leinster and Munster, the Lions' path to the URC playoffs is demanding yet achievable. Van Rooyen remains optimistic about their chances. "I think winning the SA Shield, we are really proud of that. But our work’s not done yet. In the last few seasons, we were dependent on other results going our way to qualify."

The Lions' aspirations for the playoffs hang in the balance, and their performance in the upcoming games will be pivotal. With Venter aiming to prove his mettle before donning a Lions jersey, expect nothing short of a thrilling, full-throttle rugby battle this weekend at Ellis Park.
