We are flexible enough to box kick and if the ball bounces right, fast enough to score. We still have two problems…..creative backline play, ball in hand and (this was horribly apparent in the French first half) securing quick ruck ball.
Our Achilles heel which France almost exploited is the worst two flanks in terms of contesting the ball on the deck. It’s pathetic to see Dud Toit time and again over the ball and simply blown off it. Kolisi just hovers. I don’t know which is worse.
So yes we have the speed to cash in from broken play, but not the capacity to play controlled possession Rugby.

It seems to me that the Boks are more flexible in terms of style of play and game plans than people realize. They have some very good backs, especially their wings. So they have the capability of turning on back play now.
The All Blacks have also shifted to a more grind it out approach with emphasis on the breakdown and ball retention. Sure, they can switch on the flashy passes and brilliant running but they know that this has not proven to be enough in more than one RWC.
Both teams know the value of the kicking game.
