15 Aphelele Fassi: A few average kicks from the full-back while he didn’t have too many opportunities to stretch his legs. His pass for Arendse’s try was deemed to have gone forward but overall it wasn’t a poor shift from the number 15. 5

14 Cheslin Kolbe: Kicked poorly with his first two attempts but that was about the only soft moments the world-class winger had as he recovered to produce yet another blinder against England, scoring two stunning tries and ripped open the defence with ease. Freddie Steward made life difficult for the Bok wingers in the air but Kolbe certainly got the better of him on the balance of the game. He starred again to haunt England with a sensational match-winning performance. 9

13 Jesse Kriel: One of the more quieter Springbok backs but it was by no means a poor performance from the 30-year-old who defended well to shut down several England attacks but hardly saw the ball. 6

12 Damian de Allende: Set up a crucial try for the Springboks as he powered through the attempted tackles of Henry Slade and Ben Earl to canter into the England half of the pitch and send Kolbe racing away for his second score. That was the highlight of his game but far from his only contribution as he produced yet another tidy shift on defence and carried strongly to the line, linking up with Handre Pollard and Libbok. 8

11 Kurt-Lee Arendse: Like Kolbe, he struggled to get purchase in the air with Steward contesting superbly and conceded a penalty by grabbing the fullback’s arm in a challenge. He won a key turnover and gained over 50 metres. 6

10 Manie Libbok: A hit-and-miss performance from the fly-half who endured a poor start with his kicks as they lacked distance and he had one charged down. A pinpoint cross-kick landed perfectly for Kolbe but again his place-kicking let him down as he missed two of his four shots at goal. Several positives but outweighed but offset by the negatives. 5

9 Grant Williams: Scored an absolute blinder as he tore through the England defence and skinned Steward with a lethal no-look side step. The rapid scrum-half showed that he was not a one-trick pony as he once again kicked well and had South Africa’s steaming at times. 8

8 Jasper Wiese: Outstanding in the collisions whether it was with ball in hand, on defence or on the deck, Wiese dominated the tight exchanges and went hunting with Kolisi superbly on the kick chase. Another powerhouse shift from the number eight. 7

7 Pieter-Steph du Toit: Put the pressure on Marcus Smith to score a deserved try and went on to have another stormer as he got stuck into everything during his time on the pitch. He slotted into the second rower again after returning from getting stitched up. He is having some year in Green and Gold. 8

6 Siya Kolisi (c): Hammered Ben Earl which probably should have disallowed England’s first try but that tackle set the marker for Kolisi’s performance and the Boks skipper maintained that standard. He landed several hefty blows on defence and while he was less busy on attack, it was a standout performance. 8

5 RG Snyman: An all-action display from the freakishly skilled Springboks Viking. His ability to offload in contact and off the floor is nigh on unmatched by a forward in international rugby. He was excellent at the lineout too, strong defensively and gained over 30 metres. 7

4 Eben Etzebeth: Made life incredibly difficult for Jack van Poortvliet as he hassled and harried the halfback with his cross kick and that led to Du Toit’s try, this after Smith exploited his charge out of the line to set up a score for Ollie Sleightholme. A few uncharacteristic penalties go against him but that was a theme of the team and not him alone. 7

3 Wilco Louw: The 50th player to represent the Springboks this year and he made up for lost time as he earned his first cap since 2021 and took his chance with both hands. He put Ellis Genge under pressure at the scrums, tackled well and hit the breakdowns well. Boks have some serious depth up front. 7

2 Bongi Mbonambi: His lineout darts were much better this week than they were against Scotland while the Bok hooker carried strongly, scrummaged well and made good hits on defence- stock standard performance from the veteran. 6

1 Ox Nche: He and Will Stuart traded blows in a great scrum battle but the in-form and excellent loosehead’s match was cut short at the 33rd-minute mark with a knee injury that the Springboks coaching team will hope is not too serious. Solid outing. 5

Replacements: Handre Pollard put in a commanding performance under the high ball and slotted his two kicks at goal perfectly which ultimately pulled South Africa into a two-score lead. Gerhard Steenekamp didn’t have his best performance in Green and Gold and was sent to the sin bin but on the whole, the bench proved to be the difference again. Elrigh Louw and Kwagga Smith made telling impacts while Vincent Koch was sensational at the breakdown and at the scrum particularly when he packed down on the loosehead side. Cobus Reinach also won a key turnover while Lukhanyo Am impressed during his short shift. Again, the bench proved to be the difference. 9

Manie was shocking!!!

He did a couple of good things but made so many errors.

His backwards up and under put pressure on us early and he was carried back half the field early on too.

He totally mistimed a catch, the ball bouncing off his chest...and that lead directly to an England try...Which they converted.

So how much did he cost us...strictly 12 points, but if you deduct 2 for the more difficult conversion then his unforced errors cost us 10 points.

A final score of 29-10 would have looked a lot different.

It's Hendrikse's turn now. Sorry, Manie.

Nov 17, 2024, 09:59

Well I agree and the argument that Rassie and particularly Nienhaber used in saying that his positives outweighs the negatives….

( mainly creating tries) is not applicable anymore..

He costed us more that what he created. It’s Hendrikse chance now.

The thing is Rassie already admitted in his post match interview that it wasn’t Manie,s best game but also not his worst …

That statement tells me it’s not the last time we will see Jan Pierewiet :)

In the main I agree with he ratings - but for Libbok that I think was worth no more than 3 and  Nche wo wa snot on the ield long enough - 33 minutes .  In those 33 miniues the English was penalized twice in scrumming so I would give him 6 points.

or that lin break that set up the Kolbe try I ould give De A llede 8,5 points.  If the backlie wa snot malfuncion due to Libbok making shit kicks in the irst half De Allende and the players outside of him would have done much better tat they did in the end/

I hope never to see Libbok in the Springbok team again - in two minutes he made 2 unbelievable fuck-ups early in the game and that set the tune or his performance throughout the time he was on the field of play.             .

All very embarrassing for the Allende knockers. :D

Watch the game at Kleinnmond with some friends.

Lineouts need fixing.

Personally I think we have better than Arendse. Against England who kept kicking up and unders and cross kicks the rock solid Moodie would have been better.

Fassie disappointed.

I felt Kolisi' rating a bit high. Hanekom must get picked against Wales.

Wilco did well and with Thomas we are well served in the front row.

Great to see RG putting in a long stint.

We need to find top class replacement hookers.

Boks should end the year at number one.

Great to see the frogs end the wee abs dream of number 1 spot.

Nov 17, 2024, 11:39

Marx throwing is still very poor. I think Bongi looked his age. Struggled to get around the park. Very slow and easy to run around. We need to a younger hooker now. Grobbies turn now.

Problem is, Rassie is running out of black player to pick. With Ox on the side lines and only Kolisi the other black player in the starting team. Normally with Bongi, Ox and Kolisi, Rassie can keep the ANC happy. Let's see what McKenzie has to say about these quotas. Not that Ox is a quota, just that it makes it much harder to pick your fittest and best team.

Would love to see Marx play more minutes.

Interesting pick next weekend. Will Rassie rotate again or will he go full out to end on a high.

I thought De Allende was poor, maybe with Manie on the inside, throwing panicked passes. Pollard is the still number 1.

Williams is a fantastic sniping talent. Been a while since we saw a 9 that can keep fringe defenders honest. He creates so much space by pinning the fringe defenders. They know what happens if they drift to early.

I think our big Ysters as they say are RG, Etzebeth and PSDT. These guys are just getting better. Hope we can keep them in tip shape until the next world cup.

Hope Eben gets a rest, still the URC, so long season for him.

Kolisi was putting in some hard tackles. He is starting to become a real mongrel, which I like. Still jumps away from rucks which I hate.

Not sure if Fassi is the answer at full back. Maybe wing is his spot. Great catcher but his hands let's him down. Probably because we comparing him to Willie who has the best pass in the game.

Now, who should be picked for the Wales game?

Nov 17, 2024, 11:55

If De Allende was poor this week - then Esterhuizen was supershit last week.   Live with it the matchwinning try was set up by DeAllende's break setting up the second Kolbe try.   At lesst  aside from scoring tries himself he assisted  in scorig tries as well.   .   Esterhuizen in 19 tests he played in he never scored a try nd never had a try ssist in scoring of tries - so stop your BS sprading please.

I think that most of te enior layers will be rested.   wih some on he ebnch if things go awry.   I would not pick Esterhuizen again.

I think that  the team wil look like the following:

15   Le Roux

14    Fassie

13     Am

12      De Allende

11      Arendse

10      Hendrikse

9        Hendrikse

8

7       Du Toit

6       Hanekom

5      Snyman

4

3       Du Toit

2      Grobelaaar

1       Steenkamp

The bench will include Pollard  and Williams  if hings go awy and maybe Etzebeth  as well,   Plesse no more  Libbok and Eserhuizen. - they will destroy any backlie la y ing onm  tes t leel.       ,

That was the highlight of his game but far from his only contribution as he produced yet another tidy shift on defence and carried strongly to the line, linking up with Handre Pollard and Libbok. 8

---

An absolute fiction outside of the bolded line.

He never once received a pass from Handre Pollard, thus the linking up with Handre Pollard is a total thumbsuck.

carried strongly to the line - carried to the line twice - once from lineout ball at 43:58, was tackled by Smith, held on and conceded a penalty. The other time was his break at 62:24.

This is the state of rugby journalism - just making stuff up.

365's rating is more realistic, but also talks about solid runs and carries outside of the break that simply doesn't exist.

12. Damian de Allende – 6/10

A relatively quiet evening by his standards, but made a few solid runs and carries and was instrumental in his linebreak that set Kolbe up for a brace to give the Springboks some breathing space on the scoreboard.

Nov 17, 2024, 12:47

Wilco to start together with his 2 Bulls teammates….Du toit on the bench. Hanekom at 8 with Kwagga at 6.

Elrigh Louw at 7…

Pieter and Eben at lock, with Snyman of the Bench. Esterhuisen and Moodie 12&13

The rest is ok…Agree with that Rating of Dr.Allendig….that is little bit more truthful…..

just shows you how the Media will butter up things, just to make it look better….but meanwhile it’s BS Spreading :)

Nov 17, 2024, 13:32

Pakie how many times did De A llende handleed the ball during t he whole game/   Libbok made sure he aimlessly kicked away 90% of the balls tat went to him and I can remember when De Allende got the bal and passed it tokriel,   As per normal his defnse was sound and tht is a fac5 a well.   Maybe i sould hve naother look at what happened in the game and not b lief B S sprading like Pkie and mapower is totally capable of an pcilize in.

Nov 17, 2024, 15:04

Hey Pakie...

In the not too distant future, AI will be watching games and reporting on it.

The stuff the journos bring up is often hyperbole, innuendo and fiction.

They just write stuff, not actually knowing if it happened, on the assumption that it happened.

Once AI is doing their job, it will offer accurate representations of what/who was and wasn't influential.

DDA was a passenger yesterday. Like he usually is. He made a try for the first time since the lucky bounce he caught against France in the WC...that was a year ago.

The sooner DDA is out the better.

Nov 17, 2024, 15:11

Pakie how many times did De A llende handleed the ball during t he whole game Libbok made sure he aimlessly kicked away 90% of the balls tat went to him and I can remember when De Allende got the bal and passed it tokriel,

I don't have a problem with a player not getting the ball much due to how the game is being played. I have a problem with journalists making stuff up. I didn't see him passing to Kriel at any point, you are welcome to tell me when it happened if you find it.

Here is DDA's whole game. Anyone else who runs through the game is free to add something if they spot it. It's one influential play with the break in the 63rd minute amid a bunch of routine and two possessions to the opposition. There's not one significant or dominant tackle in there, not one noteworthy run or carry or play outside of the break.

03:01 tackle assist
18:19 runs laterally and gets tackled behind the advantage line
19:57 receives at the back of the lineout and makes a few meters
23:32 short pass to Libbok
29:03 tackles Slade (he had already passed but I'll count it just for completeness sake)
32:02 ruck cleanout assist
34:52 secures loose ball
--------
41:17 kicks attacking possession on the 22 straight to Steward who marks and clears
42:12 passes to Fassi
43:58 gets from Mbonambi at lineout and runs 7m into open space before being tackled by Smith, holds on and England gets a penalty
46:20 tackle assists Pollard on Slade
49:14 missed tackle on Earl
62:24 breaks through Earl and Slade's tackle to release Kolbe for a try
67:24 tackle Lawrence
SUBBED

Nov 17, 2024, 15:21

They just write stuff, not actually knowing if it happened, on the assumption that it happened.

I think they're under pressure to get it out there. They'd do well to run through the game a second time first. I've had to revise many of my first impressions of a game and a player on second viewing over the years.

Nov 17, 2024, 16:04

Dud Allende was hardly visible till his break. His most noteworthy act until his break was a pitiful tactical kick when we had great possession… a purposeless kick.

The break came out of the blue and it was consequential. It may have saved the match….but a random act. There was no sense of regular contributions to the attack.

Damien’s problems are mental….he thinks slowly and acts instinctively. He must have been salivating at the prospect of lining up Slade, stupidly played at inside center. And he did a number on him.

One wonders what prep these rugby players get. Has Slade watched a tape of Dud’s tactics. His big move is the lowered shoulder into the tackle….ala Gert Muller, the master of that move.

The response is to tackle low…just above the knee. Slade went waist high and got wasted.

The ratings….numbers in the final analysis…..are mostly worthless. And so is the commentary Take the Libbok narrative. Not one point on his tackling which included missed tackles and being dragged for 10 metres while hanging on for dear life.

These aren’t journalists they are camp followers.

Nov 17, 2024, 16:07

Your comments isas biased ads olyyou can come up with.   in ther words total BS as excpcted. - the one case where you claime e made 7 meters he went to sadn athe end of the ine-ot since the Coks were a forward short and he carried the bal for 7 metters - but there wa nobody to cover the beadown and when on player arrived it wa oo ate to rcver the abll - so De Allende ws blamed.  When   player crry a ball in traffice there should always be players to assist ain b all protection and in this case there ere e player assis as mre likely Pollard and not by De A llence.   that came to late and the result wa a penalty.

So he tackle sassist s Polard in tackling Slade - accoring to you - but  Slaxde played at 12 so if the tacjkle assist is likely  by pollard.    So he msissed a tackle on  Earl who played at 13 - so he had ro move out to help in handling Earl  I sa that incint clearly and Erl as tackled  ameter later by anoter forwrd player,    What happenmed was he forced early to runstraight inmto 3 forwards who brougt him adown a meter from where De Allende missed the tackle3,

Yiour revew is total BS as was reeatedly found and was always repetatively he same BS/    When to players in two matches ran straght through Msters tackle and tries wer sscored it wa all Du Toit's fault because  he was guarding the potential next recipient of the ball. e meters away.    Whatever you cme up is norm, ally the same BS  Mozart cmes up with.

In any evet in 19 tess plaed how many tries have St Esterhuizen scored and how many try assists did he had - NONE.

Your wrot about h many rckles he amde in thematch - 3 and in no case was he invoved in a move to pass te ball to anybody wih any real beeficial cnsqences - NONE again.   But Esterhuizen had a good game ad this week againsta muc stronger team De Allende had a shit game.

I rather believe real expert assessment of performance than I respect your shotspreading.   There were real expecrts that did assssment of players f all players in all the 15 positions and De Allende was regarded a the ebst 12 in the series and even got the MOM i one test -but he a shit accordingto you and th non-performin Esterhuien wa te answer to all problems.   He played for only 3 minutes i the Portiga tstbefore he buggered upand got  4 weak ban.   He then was eft out of the home test because according to you he was injured -but eh played that s,eweek fr the Sharks in thei semi-final match in the CC and did squat again.   Then off to the UK and St Esterhuizen wa icked to play against Scotland and what wa shis effec o the game - one big bugger-all,       So what happened in the Englad test - the score wa 22-20 and a penalty would have won the  match for England so De Allende broke hrough the tackle attempt of two payers and pssed the ball to Kolbe who scored the winning try for the Springboks - now he was shit  according to you and it meant nothing in your simpleton biased  assessment.

Nobody should ever believe he BS Mozart and you comes up with because it is total and biased BS anyway.

Nov 17, 2024, 16:17

Drivel alert.

Nov 17, 2024, 16:54

BS  Mozar5t alert.    There were too man defenders in front of the Springbok players and you blamd him to try and make a kixk in that case,   Your contribution is not drivel alert - it is BS alert in your case.   Remember your lies f he pst tha was exposed i the past about the two Duds as prime BSter Mozart allege ha[ened and then exposed as lies - so keep it up Mozart - very few people trust your incident decriptions in matches,    Do keep it u - you are at last good for a laugh at times,    .

Nov 17, 2024, 17:33

I remember your claim about me lying….every one disproved. Unlike you who have been caught out many times. After which you just slink away and often repeat the lie after a convenient period of time has elapsed.

But it could  also just be second childhood.

Nov 17, 2024, 17:48

The Grumpy Old Men still bashing away at each other . . . each thinking he's winning!

LMAO!

Nov 17, 2024, 18:41

You should join up….what are you now 65 and 40 lbs overweight?

Nov 17, 2024, 18:49

de Allende was as good as ever, that try he set up to bury the English was everything he is about

Nov 17, 2024, 18:50

So the sporting journos getting it wrong. Jean De Villiers called Allende a World class center after the match. Planet rugby gives him a high match rating.

BUT BUT there are some loons on Ruckers that thing he is useless. Bwahahahahaha.

We must take the assessment of those calling Du Toit and Rassie useless as  being gospel in their assessment of Allende. More clueless you cannot get.

Allende has had a long and distinguished career. Dimwits like Mozzietard have never recognized his worth regardless of performance. You know they will say Allende has flopped even before the game has been played.

You can't take such biased people seriously.

Nov 17, 2024, 19:06

"You should join up…."

Wehe . . . as if I'd sink to that level. You and ou Maaik occupy the bottom rung on this message board ladder.

Nov 17, 2024, 20:25

Well, Henry Slade was still the best looking man on the pitch, so we won something !

Nov 17, 2024, 21:46

How could you becs what about Kwagga with that very prominent nose :)

Nov 17, 2024, 21:53

Becs

You are a aldy so I have no option but to admit tha yo have a good tate as to playes on their loks.   about Slade.:D:D:D:angel::angel::angel:

Nov 17, 2024, 22:00

Oh Mpower….it was a close run thing with Kwagga and his nose ;)

Thank you Mike :)

Nov 17, 2024, 22:13

Sam Underhill is not to shabby…plus there is the added bonus of picking up radio chatter from outer space, with those two antennas :)

Nov 17, 2024, 22:32

Ha ha ha ! Underhill is no looker. I love the way he always has one ear taped down so he looks like he’s had a nasty accident :)

Nov 17, 2024, 23:40

Underhill reminds one of LOR…but I think the English coach with his ski jump nose might delight you becs.

Nov 18, 2024, 00:25

Ha ha ha. His poor nose was always scabbed when he used to play.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2024/nov/16/england-20-29-south-africa-autumn-nations-series-player-ratings

South Africa

15) Aphelele Fassi Not a great afternoon under the high ball but made an important tackle on Smith. Not much chance to showcase his counterattacking. 7

14) Cheslin Kolbe You’d put the house on him finishing his first try. The garage on his second. So springy, which makes him so effective in the air. World class. 9

13) Jesse Kriel Pinged for escorting but made huge tackle on Lawrence just as England were threatening in the final 10 minutes. So solid. 8

12) Damian de Allende Had been quiet until he slipped the shackles and fed Kolbe on the right wing. Like Kriel he is uber-consistent in these big matches. 8

11) Kurt-Lee Arendse Big tackle on Lawrence in the first half and gets up so high to compete for the ball. Denied try for a marginal forward pass. 7

10) Manie Libbok A shaky start, having been trusted with the No 10 jersey. Up and under went backwards but nice kick-pass to Kolbe. A mixed bag. 6

9) Grant Williams A live wire. Stunning try to get South Africa up and running and kept finding gaps to squeeze through. England were relieved to see the back of him. 8

1) Ox Nché South Africa were on top at scrum time while he was on the pitch, if not dominant, but replaced because of injury after half an hour. 6

2) Bongi Mbonambi Probably expected a rough ride. England tested his lineout throwing but he held firm and was always a willing carrier into heavy traffic. 7

3) Wilco Louw Became the 50th player used by the Springboks this year, which is a remarkable stat. Justified selection, though, with scrum penalties won inside own 22. 8

4) Eben Etzebeth So impressive in the air and consistently rattled England, in particular Van Poortvliet. Borderline legal at times but that’s what makes him so effective. 8

5) RG Snyman An enormous human so perhaps it isn’t surprising he is so effective on a rugby field. A menace throughout. 9

6) Siya Kolisi Set the tone for his side with huge hit on Earl early on but struggled to get the Boks on the right side of the referee. 7

7) Pieter-Steph du Toit Typically all action from the relentless flanker. Charge-down try was reward for his work ethic. He just doesn’t stop. 9

8) Jasper Wiese So hard to put down when carrying the fight to England, giving the Springboks hard but crucial yards. 8

Replacements: Malcolm Marx (for Mbonambi 46) Such a weapon to have on the bench 7; Gerhard Steenekamp (for Nché 33) Sent to sin-bin for collective indiscipline 6; Vincent Koch (for Louw 42) Made a big impact 7; Elrigh Louw (for Etzebeth 67) Some hard grafter 6; Kwagga Smith (for Wiese 50) South Africa’s super sub 7; Cobus Reinach (for Williams 60) Valuable experience 7; Handrè Pollard (for Libbok 46) Settled his side down 8; Lukhanyo Am (for De Allende 69) 7.
