Former Ireland captain Brian O'Driscoll has emphatically stated that "Ireland's fortunes have changed" after their compelling victory over Scotland in the Six Nations. O'Driscoll, reflecting on the evolution of Irish rugby, remarked on the significant strides the team has made in recent years, asserting a continuous state of transition aimed at improvement and growth.

O'Driscoll highlighted the team's latest performance as possibly their finest, surpassing even their strong showing against England. "I think they’ve left their best performance. I’d say today was probably even better than England," he noted, underscoring the quality of opposition faced in the recent match. Despite the apparent ease suggested by the scoreline, O'Driscoll believes the match was a closer contest, "It really wasn’t a 43-21 game. It was nip and tuck, right in the balance with 15 minutes to go."

"Rory [Best] and I were lucky to have been part of those early years, and now the team in the last five, six years have taken it to another level."

On the other side, Scotland's captain Sione Tuipulotu expressed pride in his team's resilience despite the outcome, emphasizing their ongoing journey and ambitions for future championships. "I am proud of my group massively. The way we stuck to it after a tough start to the championship is difficult," Tuipulotu shared, still hopeful for a future triumph.

Meanwhile, Ireland's winger Tommy O’Brien spoke on the squad's development trajectory looking ahead to the 2027 World Cup. Having watched the beginning of this growth phase from home back in 2023, O’Brien is now an integral part of the journey. "We’ve talked about it being an 18-month journey towards the 2027 World Cup," he said, highlighting the importance of building experience and national support.

"We want to be in the middle there, lifting the Triple Crown. That’s what we’re after."

The contrasting outcomes for the teams underscore a narrative of triumph and disappointment, setting the stage for further developments in the international rugby scene. As Ireland savors the taste of victory and Scotland contemplates its next steps, the saga of rugby greatness continues to unfold, promising more thrilling encounters and heroic tales in the seasons to come.
