Phiwe Nomlomo couldn't help but beam with pride as his Vodacom Bulls team demolished Western Province in their Currie Cup debut match. At the scenic Cape Town Stadium, the Bulls turned the game into their own personal highlight reel, clinching a decisive 48-23 victory. Leading the charge were Zak Burger and Jeandre Rudolph, each bagging a pair of tries in a match that saw the Bulls command a dominant 38-16 lead by halftime.

"We were clinical," Nomlomo remarked, clearly satisfied with his team's explosive start.

"That’s where everything started. I think when you’re up against the blue machine and it’s going like that, it is a bit difficult to play against."

He also gave a nod to Western Province's spirited effort, though he noted their lack of discipline might have been their undoing.

The match wasn't without its drama, particularly for Western Province, who saw their captain Zain Davids and locks Gary Porter and Alex Groves each earn a trip to the sin bin for breakdown infringements. This left them particularly vulnerable at the scrums, especially during a comical yet pitiful moment when both their locks were sidelined almost simultaneously.

Amidst the chaos, Bulls' flyhalf Boeta Chamberlain put on a kicking clinic, flawlessly executing all eight of his attempts, which included six conversions and two penalties.

"The last time he started was about five months ago, and to come out and put in a performance like he did, I’m sure he’ll be incredibly chuffed. That bravery to keep pushing the boundary – that was class,"

praised Nomlomo.

With this roaring start to their season, the Bulls are now set to retreat to their stronghold at Loftus Versfeld, prepping to take on the Sharks XV. The Sharks are reeling from their recent thrashing by the Lions at Ellis Park, setting the stage for what could be another electrifying encounter in the Bulls' upcoming fixture.

As the Bulls gear up for their next challenge, their opening rampage in Cape Town sets a thrilling tone for the season, signaling that they are indeed a force to be reckoned with in this year's Currie Cup.
