It was an explosive start to the U16 Grant Khomo Week at St Alban’s College in Pretoria, with the Bulls, Sharks, and both Western Province teams taking the reins with impressive opening wins. The day was packed with adrenaline-pumping matches, showcasing the young talents poised to be the future stars of rugby.

The home team, the Bulls, didn't hold back as they kicked off their campaign with a dominant 32-13 victory over Boland. Dandre Brink, the Bulls' outside centre, was particularly lethal, slicing through the defence to score two tries. The Sharks and Golden Lions weren't far behind in the excitement stakes, amassing a whopping 79 points between them in a game that ended 44-35 in favor of the Sharks. Rosco Williams, Sharks' fullback, snagged a hat-trick, matching the Lions’ Blessing Manoreng, who also crossed the line three times.

Meanwhile, a nail-biter unfolded between the Western Province XV and the Pumas, with the game swinging in favor of WP XV 30-27, thanks to Divan Meyer's boot which was as reliable as a Swiss watch, knocking over three conversions and three penalties. Zimbabwe dazzled in the day's opener with a staggering 71-3 win over Border Country Districts, showcasing an offensive clinic led by Denzel Nyambo’s hat-trick and Gray van der Merwe’s kicking prowess.

The Valke staged a comeback to overcome the Limpopo Blue Bulls 24-15, and the Griffons squeaked past Namibia with a 32-24 scoreline after a tense first half. The day wrapped up with Western Province decimating Free State 55-22, courtesy of Luca Orgill's double, and the Griquas leveling up to defeat the Iqhawe XV 50-14 after a tied score at halftime.

"Dandre’s performance was a key factor in our victory. He brought energy and precision that lifted the whole team,"

Not to be outdone in terms of scoring, the last matches of the day saw a relentless pace, proving that the young talents on the field were not just playing for fun but showcasing their skills in a fiercely competitive environment. With such a thrilling start, the rest of the week promises more tight contests and breakout performances from these young rugby hopefuls.
