Vodacom Bulls coach Johan Ackermann couldn't hide his delight after his team held their nerve against the Sharks amid wild swings of momentum at Loftus Versfeld. The Bulls, who darted to a 22-0 lead by halftime, saw their advantage cut to just 10 points before slamming the door shut with a final score of 41-12. The match, punctuated by seven tries, was a testament to the Bulls' steel under pressure.

The real highlight for Ackermann was how his squad handled the Sharks' surges.

"We exited really well every time the Sharks came at us. When it went 22-5, 22-12 and it looked like they might get the next score and really make a game of it, we showed composure,"

he explained. The Bulls managed to not only regain control but also pushed ahead, effectively snuffing out any hopes of a Sharks comeback.

The match itself nearly got off to a rocky start, delayed by 15 minutes due to a dramatic mix of lightning and torrential rain. Ackermann praised his team's response to the disruption: "It’s always challenging, but luckily it was for both teams. We adjusted our routine slightly, followed our same warm-up process, and once the weather cleared up, we stuck to our game plan with minimal adjustments."

While the Sharks floundered with numerous handling errors, the Bulls kept their mistakes to a bare minimum. "I felt the players worked really hard on reducing those errors," Ackermann noted, satisfied with the team’s performance despite the earlier downpour.

This victory not only showcased the Bulls’ tactical and mental fortitude but also kept them in the hunt for a URC playoff spot, currently holding eighth place on the log. Their next challenge is against the Stormers, back at Loftus on March 14.

Ackermann was quick to temper the celebration with a dose of reality.

"You must cherish a win and be grateful, and tomorrow you’ll wake up with a smile. But success is written in ice – tomorrow the sun shines again,"

he mused, stressing the ephemeral nature of success and the constant need for focus and improvement.

Indeed, for the Bulls, it's back to the grind as they prepare to tackle the upcoming fixtures, knowing too well that every victory today is just a step towards the ultimate goal at the season's end.
