Canan Moodie has played in 14 Test matches for the South Africa national rugby team. He made his Test debut as a 19-year-old and, as of July 2025, has not lost a Test, having started in 13 of those 14 matches.

At this stage, he may be the preferred 13 for Rassie. He offers more than Kriel on attack, but it remains to be seen if his defence will become as good as Kriel, at least in Rassie's umbrella.

Snark, you're full of snot, Jesse is by far our best option at 13 ATM.

Jul 26, 2025, 23:06

On defence, but Moodie is better on attack.

Jul 27, 2025, 07:48

In terms of power hits, Moodie is better. He's becoming quite a nasty tackler. A few hits he put in at the Bulls this year bone crunching to say the least.

I don't know what his success rate is compared to Kriel. Do you guys?

Jul 27, 2025, 08:17

Moodie 100% success rate and Jessica 61% success rate. But Kriel has played more test over a longer period of time and his Defence Stats is far better than Moodie,s,

Therefore Kriel has a higher success rate over all because of the amount of Test played.

But because of Moodie,s success rate so far and if he carries on like this, he will be the Cornerstone for our Future Midfield.

Plum how do I Copy and paste from Chat Gpt to here, without it coming out blank and all dis per portioned on Ruckers Side??

ask you question and then add "do not use any formatting

EG "Tell me about Canan Moodie in one short paragraph. Do not use any formatting"

I'm pasting the response below...

"Canan Moodie is a South African rugby union player born on November 5, 2002, in Paarl. He plays for the Bulls in the United Rugby Championship and is a rising star for the Springboks, having made his Test debut in September 2022 and even scoring a try in that first match . Growing up in a tough neighbourhood outside Paarl, Moodie developed his agility and vision playing street rugby before attending Boland Agricultural High School and later joining the Bulls academy . Known for his versatility in the backline—typically as a wing or outside centre—he earned back?to?back SA Rugby Young Player of the Year awards and was part of the Springboks’ 2023 Rugby World Cup victory .

I meant to say that I don't know what Moodie's tackle success rate is as compared to Jessica.

I think it must be very close.

Jul 27, 2025, 08:43

Moodie 61% and Kriel 86%. Kriel,s tackle Dominance Rate is 15,9%, which is among the highest globally, together with Curry and Koroibete.

Jul 27, 2025, 09:21

It takes years of xp to master midfield defence at test level and 13 is especially difficult...to have a high dominance tackle ratio at 13 like Jesse is truly exceptional...but he only has a few years left...good thing they're blooding Moody...he has more talent on attack and will develop into a top test player...almost there already.

Jul 27, 2025, 09:31

Where do you get those numbers from, M?

Jul 27, 2025, 09:31

Draad, it takes years to master anything to a degree where it's acceptable for Test level rugby.

Just saying

Jul 27, 2025, 09:34

So far this test season the Boks has the highest Tackle Dominance Rate which is 15%. Where the AB, France, ENG, are at 5%.

I think maybe the difference is so big because of specific players putting in much more tackles than the rest.

Kolisi rate is most probably at 0,000001…..hope he retires before 2027!!

Chat GPT

Jul 27, 2025, 10:02

M, ChatGPT is notoriously bad at pulling stats from the web when sources are limited.

EG if you ask it to provide you with populations per country it'll do a decent job because there are a lot of sources and the information is written in a way it can easily understand. However, when you talk about rugby stats, they're relatively obscure and often presented in charts and tables that are not necessarily meant for AI to easily read.

In that sense, the only way it is reasonably reliable is when you actually upload the information in document format and then ask to study the info. Even then, it can have problems reading the data. I know this because of some of the works I'm doing with it.

Chat's strong points are concepts and creativity. In other words, understanding and formulating ideas. It's not designed to be a data scraper and analyser. Kind of like your car battery isn't designed to fry eggs but when it gets hot enough you probably could fry an egg on it.

AIs will often hallucinate answers because their primary objective is to provide information. So instead is simply saying "I don't know"...it'll guess or say something that it feels may be an acceptable answer.

Just some info :)

Jul 27, 2025, 11:06

Ok cool …. I double check info just on Google and most of it was correct.

Jul 27, 2025, 13:12

"Draad, it takes years to master anything to a degree where it's acceptable for Test level rugby."

Well duh, with 13 defence in particular.

Jul 27, 2025, 18:08

Rassie is very particular about who he plays at outside centre. Rassie did drop Moodie after some poor defence at 13 against the All Blacks. Perhaps Kriel will start, with Moodie of the bench. Moodie has even played fullback for the Bulls, so he has experience on wing, fullback and outside center.

Jul 27, 2025, 18:45

It's just that playing next to DDA, all a 13 gets do is to defend.

...so the years of practice required are actually for the 13 to keep his mouth shut when all he wants to do is scream "PASS THE BALL YOU DONKEY!!!!!"

Jul 27, 2025, 18:48

Plum, stop extrapolating...and your DdA derangement is kak snaaks...

Jul 27, 2025, 19:01

Moodie has terrific potential, I hope he realizes it. He looked better at wing for the Bulls in the URC than the game I saw him play at 13 for them, but he was pretty good for the Boks there. Not against top class opposition though of course, so the jury is still out.

Jul 27, 2025, 19:33

I just said the above to annoy you a bit...but you know I actually luv ya ou Draad.

Agreed, Pakie. I think Moodie defos has the goods. And he was tackling like a man possessed at times this year for the Bulls.

But I think we'll really see him shine now that the Bulls have a coach who wants the players to back themselves.

Jul 27, 2025, 20:05

I know Plum...

Jul 27, 2025, 20:17

Draad don’t be shy, profess your Love for Plum, we will be fine with it:)
